a gun free zone (no self defense zone).

gun free zone = no self defence zone

I guess if there is nothing else you can think of that might help protect you then guns are the logical way to go.....

When did your brain stop working?

I tried to make that point more subtly but it didn't seem to get through.

I have all of your options, and use them plus one more option if they fail.
You are never subtle.
But even you should be able to comprehend that gun free zones don't work.
If they did why don't they just declare crime free zones and save all that money they spend on cops.

Weird it's worked for me most of my life. The only time I carried a gun was a few watches in the service. I've lived in a far rougher place than Alabama most of that time.

Most violent crime happens to people who seek it out. So if you don't, having a weapon on your person does nothing for your personal safety except increase the chance someone will try to rob you.

You've done it, you just beat your all time record for stupid.
If I am not looking for trouble being armed will increase my chance of being robbed? Come on now that is ridiculous we are back to criminals as Superman, this time giving them the mental power to know I am armed and yet to stupid to go after someone who is an easier victim. Most of my life all those tools you are so proud of have worked for me too. Funny though, crackheads don't listen to reason and will come after you not because you are armed but because they think you will be an easy mark.
The stupidity of your post is dumbfounding.

They will come after the gun because it is valuable and something that can be pawned. Just like a visible smart phone or a snatchable chain. You seem to believe they will walk up and calmly demand you turn it over. That is not how muggings are done. The usual MO is what they call the blitz attack. You are hit with no warning and what the attacker wants is targeted from the get go so the best defense is to not have anything visible that could be a target.

Is that a legal power that the police have, to frown upon someone?

Yep. You've probably heard of one particular manifestation called "driving while black" on some of those websites about what a horrible, racist country the US is. "Ponytail probable cause was the form I used to encounter, back in the day.

It means you draw unwarranted and unnecessary police attention. In the forms mentioned above, it is pretty random, and in smaller communities, it stops once the cops figure out who you are. In some cases, it escalates to the point where the cops "get a hard-on for you," and the petty harassment becomes commonplace. You get no slack in any encounter, and no benefit of the doubt in any circumstance.

If by "legal," you mean codified into the law, then no, but it's quite real.

Its tons of "bad luck" to be on one of their various "frown on" lists which range from "aggressive driver" to "he's a murderer, just can't prove it yet"

They are physical lists and they are shared up to higher levels than some may suspect, and the plate reading cam technology helps keep tabs

Lovely, he claims to live in a normally crime free area but also claims he needs a gun as the streets are so dangerous.

Well the streets are dangerous - what with cracked pavement stones and potholes and gutters and whatnot - there's a permanent risk to life and limb. Clearly carrying a gun changes the odds in the good guys' favour. I'm surprised that insurance companies don't insist up open carry in their life assurance plans. Such a no brainer.

Tweak you are answering an absurdity. As I have said before we have little crime in our town but 75% of it is within 6 blocks of my house. Crackheads who's "planning" consists of hitting an easy target when it presents itself.
Unfortunately you took the word of a person who manages to forget anything he can't use to attack someone. (that is why I have him on hide)

why don't you move on the other side of the town?

Three reasons.
A I can't afford to, not only would there be the normal moving expenses but the neighborhood when down hill after I bought my house and I would lose too much money if I sold it.
B The neighborhood is starting to come back jumping ship now wouldn't make sense.
C I don't agree with the myth that you have no choice but to submit to the criminal class or run like a coward.

I wish you the situation improves soon, about the third reason you are not batman so I think you have the right to improve your life quality without being considered a coward, and your moving or not won't make a difference for the criminal class, people move to be closer to their job or because there are better schools not having to look your back any time you go outside seems pretty legit.

I am retired and have no children in school so those reasons are invalid for me.
As far as you not considering me a coward, it isn't your opinion of me that matters.
Why quit just as you are starting to win?

We have one set of gas stations in our town has declared themselves to be a gun free zone (no self defense zone). Our first holdup in a couple of years happened last night at one of their stations. Since guns are banned the thug obviously used a knife. I don't understand why they didn't declare it a no crime zone, obviously that would have prevented the holdup.

Is that gas station also a:

1 ) Nuclear Weapon Free Zone?
2 ) Chemical Weapon Free Zone?
3 ) Biological Weapon Free Zone?
4 ) Orbital Weapon Free Zone?

Sounds little bit silly right? But without those critical ideas in place, someone might get....strange...ideas. Yeah, "Hey dude, give me the money, or I'll obliterate everything within five miles of here" just doesn't have the same effect as guns anymore....

If someone wants to have a gun free zone, that's their business. You do not lose all ability to defend yourself while your in it. Unless of course, your gun is the ONLY defense you have. If that's the only defense system you have, then its fair to say, you have a laughable defense system.

Most ACTUAL gun owners, and not gun nuts, have this lump, three feet above their ass called 'a brain'. Its used to process information, and understand many things. One of those things is 'self defense'. And with self defense comes "Awareness" of that which is around you. Someone behaving oddly, or group of someone looking in your direction with a predatory look, is usually a sign to be on guard from.

Why a gun free zone, BamaD? This many come as a shock to you in all seriousness....

Most people will simply not do business with a company that allows firearms to be freely carried around in the facility by non-law enforcement individuals. And those customers make sure the management is aware of such. More people are sane then insane, fortunately, when it comes to firearms. Even gun owners dislike the notion of being forced to carry their firearm in open sight as 'advertisement' of their defense systems. They just want a burger, or fill up their tank, or even buy some cloths. The 'Wild West' is in the history books for a reason. An businesses do not wish to become part of history either. They want to stay in 'the now' and profitable. So placing 'gun free zone' means they are not for the gun nuts, but for the much larger majority of people. Nothing on the law books states a company can not do this.

You can have your gun at such a location. They can not legally do anything about it. It is however, respect. By having your gun in plain view, in a 'gun free zone' is a sign of disrespect. Do you like being disrespected to your face? Of course not, BamaD. So simply keep the gun out of sign, fill up your tank, and truck on down the road!

Here many won't do business with a business that declares a gun free zone,
others simply ignore the sign.
Many businesses have no open carry notices which I agree with.
How are people "forced" to carry in the open, I have never heard of such a thing outside of your imagination.

It also is not a knife free zone, a weapon free zone or a crime free zone.
Why?
Because they
A are just playing politics pretending that banning guns makes people safer
because everyone knows that if someone is planning to hold up the place
with a gun they will stop when they see the sign.
B Don't realize that when you know no one has a gun you are safe using a
knife making crime more economical.

Moron I have stated repeatedly that I don't carry in the open because I know all of that.
Besides any time I have had trouble (with one exception, at a wedding) they came onto my property. That gives me a 20 yard margin and I don't let them get close enough for a blitz.
Funny that has never happened but I have had them run away when they realized I could fight back.
You have been reading too many mindless anti-gun blogs.
And what does anything have to do with the uselessness of gun free zones?

Having a gun inside your waistband doesn't make it invisible. Please think for once. The guy who does this for a living knows exactly what he's looking for.

Again you think I am as stupid as you are.
I wear over sized shirts adding to the cover and I carry a compact gun.
I also am aware of the "tells" that show you have a gun and avoid them.
Once again you betray your great respect for the intelligence of the criminal,
most of them are idiots and cowards they look for the easy prey.
You must not know that if they try to pawn it they would be arrested as by the time the pawn shops opened they would have not only a description of the firearm but it's serial number.
Why are you in such awe of criminals, they are worthless trash.

What is it that made you think there is no defense against the criminal?
Seldom have I seen anyone so impressed with the cunning and drive, with them having skills beyond that of mere mortals.
If I am so unthinking and such an easy target when armed why was I only successfully mugged when unarmed while sending several thugs running into the dark when armed?
Your world view is so warped so submissive that I don't know how you can put up with yourself.
Criminals do not come from Krypton they can and are routinely beaten by those with the courage to stand up to them, if your like being a victim fine, but don't ask me to join you.
