If you're actually interested, can I recommend that you read the report?

In response to an almighty and hideous fuck up, my country was civilised enough to establish a formal enquiry, with a mandate to look at all the factors and to make recommendations.

This process of taking on challenges like this, examining them in a formal and transparent way and then taking action is something we do a fair bit. And while I am ashamed that these events occurred, I am very proud to live in the kind of democracy where trulying independent inquiries can take place.

I do look forward to the day that other leading nations will be abe to follow our example.

Ah... but they won't ever do that.

Why??
Because they have laws and statutes in place that prevent their government from interfering with personal rights and liberties. So they see that sort of stuff as infringements, not useful (and impartial) investigations.

They might learn one day.... maybe. But don't hold your breath, you might suffocate in the waiting.

I read the report. That's how I know it doesn't say that the girls "found a form of love." Maybe you should try reading this.

Oh yeah, here we go. The same old "More Civilized than Thou" theme that we've come to know and love. Choke on it.

what the STATS PROVE, is that guns to gun death ratio is a TINY TINY TINY percentage. 100,000,000 guns to 30,000 deaths, what is that, like .03%?

also according to a site that tracks gun deaths aprox. 60% of all gun deaths are suicides, sooo the percentage is much lower still, unless you think people who commit suicide would NOT COMMIT suicide if there wasn't a GUN available....

http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/crime/2012/12/gun_death_tally_every_american_gun_death_since_newtown_sandy_hook_shooting.html

Update, June 19, 2013: As time goes on, our count gets further and further away from the likely actual number of gun deaths in America—because roughly 60 percent of deaths by gun are due to suicides, which are very rarely reported

PS. this same site reports the number of gun deaths for the one year period following sandy hook as 12,042 NOT 30,000

no, but it has to do with a response to SCAREY WORLD

he claims maybe we just don't realize how violent and scary the world is, I countered with MAYBE we do and its why we like our guns so much

but after the last post I made showing him the stats he says prove HIS point I will refrain from posting anything else about it

No, I don't read all of his posts. He obsesses over me, as you do, not vise-versa.

And according to the polling, they're right in the middle (which makes you and he the extremists).

crazyml -> RE: Rotherham child abuse and the cover up (8/31/2014 11:31:14 AM)

I don't know why you persist in pretending to have read the report. If you had read the report you would have seen that several of the victims were in love with their abusers.

It is there, plain and simple. At the risk of repeating myself, no-one is asserting that the form of love they found themselves in was good or healthy, or that it offers one scintilla of excuse to the abusers. But it has been patiently pointed out to you several times. It is also with reminding you that the remarks you're misunderstanding were not made in the context of all of the victims, they were made in the context of grooming.

As for your whine about my snarky comment about the fact that the UK, well that just made me hoot with laughter.

You are the one proposing to exploit the suffering of these young women in order to try to make a point about how civilised the UK is. I can't stop you choosing to cynically exploit their abuse, but I was doing you a favour by pointing out that rather than demonstrating a lack of civilisation, the report shows how a civilised society responds when terrible things happen. So any attempt to take comfort from the suffering of these girls will simply make you look stupid as well as despicable.

Bless your heart, if you're as clever as you pretend to be, I am really comfy that whatever forum gymnastics you engage in to try to excuse first your ignorance and second your willingness to exploit the victims of child abuse, you know the truth of the matter, and that does give me a little hope.

Lucylastic -> RE: Rotherham child abuse and the cover up (8/31/2014 11:35:33 AM)

you made the post about him...who is obsessing?
and as I dont live in the UK anymore, its neither here nor there

Lucy,

This just isn't true at all.

UKIP are to all intents and purposes a conservative party. The only difference being that they have placed giving the European Union a swerve at the top of their agenda.

Like it or not, most people in this country agree with them. If there was a referendum tomorrow what do you think the outcome would be? I'd say at the very least 75% would vote to come out of it.

The problem in this country is that people are so wedded to dualistic politics, Labour or Conservative, in many cases out of tradition as opposed to what they have to say; that there simply is no room for an alternative.

Regardless, on the Europe issue they have the backing of most of the country.

UKIP are nothing like the National Front. The National Front are an extreme party that have pretty much no support in England; UKIP resonate with English people on many issues, particularly Europe.

Now you are just out and out fucking lying.

From the report. “I know he really loves me … (about a perpetrator convicted of very serious offences against other children)”

If I give you the benefit of the doubt, which I am loathe to do, and agree you did read the report, then you sure as fuck didnt understand it. The bolded words in this post are to be found in the section of the report kindly posted by Lucy.
