ORIGINAL: Real0neGranted, the constitution is for the most part toilet paper, however with enough people holding the governments feet to the fire the judges will come around and be forced to at some point allow people to actually 'exercise' their religion rather than restrict them to praying for the day they will be allowed to exercise their religion. Aside from your obvious desire that there be the christian equivalent of Sharia law in the US, the audience here awaits with baited breath your specifics and examples of how any citizen of the US has been deprived of exercise of religion. Was it when we outlawed the burning of women as accused of witches that has you so burning on this issue? What law is it against -personal- prayer at any time, or any form of devotion to what-/whomever in a private abode or structure are you speaking of? Do you not realize that the christian prayer in the football locker room or at the city council meeting (as exists across the nation) is a suppression of others' freedom to exercise their religion? You are either speaking of 'religious freedom' as in fact a christian hegemony and despotism of the US or you are speaking of religious freedom as de facto religious anarchy in the US. Please enlighten the audience as to which you would consider the promised land of 'religious freedom', if that's not too much trouble. Aside from your obvious desire that there be the christian equivalent of Sharia law in the US, No, not at all, not even in the same universe. the audience here awaits with baited breath your specifics and examples of how any citizen of the US has been deprived of exercise of religion. Was it when we outlawed the burning of women as accused of witches that has you so burning on this issue? Every living thinking person with a conscience has been deprived of 'exercizing' their religion by the state in one way or another. Spare the rod spoil the child. You believe there is a point where a child should be spanked to show him there are boundaries, those boundaries hopefully considered for the best interest of the child in later years. If the state gets wind of that despite how reasonable you may be they will take your child and press charges against you for violating the state religion. The state sets boundaries for you and will even kill you if you run outside those boundaries however the state religion does not allow you to spank your child to impose boundaries in their presumably incorrect actions. Its ok for them to impose their religion upon you to correct your actions but you are not allowed to use much lessor means to correct your wayward child. Your narrowing it to citizens carries a mountain of false premises. Doesnt matter who you are if you are in the territory you are subject to the law of said territory and anything the state religion deems ok to impose upon you. Of course if you are a vassal they hang you for the same thing they would cover up if it were the queen. Exercising your religion, prayer is "not", in any way the exercise of religion since it in and of itself carries no 'action'. Was the woman a 'willing' party to the same religion? If she was then the state has no business to intervene, since its her contract with her people. What law is it against -personal- prayer at any time, or any form of devotion to what-/whomever in a private abode or structure are you speaking of? That one does not make sense since pray has little to nothing to do with 'exercising' your religion. How can you devote yourself to anything you cant do. exercising is the outward "doing" of something, its an action, actions guided by your beliefs. Prove someone prayed? You cant. Prove the intent? You cant until you examine the outward action. If we used a more familiar analogy, what you are suggesting is that the only bonafide way to exercise your religion is the equivalent of owning a gun and leaving it on the shelf unloaded and the only thing you are allowed to do with it is polish it. Meaning its useless and impotent. In addition you have commingled private affairs with public affairs. What one would do in the street is not the same as what you would do in private. Your horse can crap anywhere on your own turf, but not on wall street, rather poor nonreligious example I know but only to make a point. Exercising your 'religion' is acting on your beliefs, not silently meditating or begging [insert whatever label you wish] that you wont get shot or imprisoned for doing so. Do you not realize that the christian prayer in the football locker room or at the city council meeting (as exists across the nation) is a suppression of others' freedom to exercise their religion? Its not a 'suppression' of anothers religion unless it prevents them from praying? Are you talking about the formal establishment of a prayer that is used to prevent other religions to say their prayers? You are either speaking of 'religious freedom' as in fact a christian hegemony and despotism of the US or you are speaking of religious freedom as de facto religious anarchy in the US. Please enlighten the audience as to which you would consider the promised land of 'religious freedom', if that's not too much trouble. Anarchy? Another through the ages statist misrepresented red herring. Nope, religious freedom as 'individual' and necessary as the right to life. The right to exercise, as in the right to "do", for the purposes of your point, praying is the equivalent of 'thinking' and 'hoping' of doing, but not doing. Think of the state religion as mental bondage. If you step over line x you will be sent to the penalty box. Religion as it is applied today is the equivalent of only being allowed to polish the gun but restricted from shooting it except as ordained [and licensed] (cant forget the revenue nazi side of it) by the statist corporate religion.
