The part that I do not understand is how is he selling his scrap without a valid picture ID? Everywhere I have been requires one. (Destroying medical imaging equipment produces a LOT of scrap metals.)
How did he even get a business license without Id?

I never needed a business license. You just put it as profit under "self-employed" on the tax form and tell where you sold your scrap and the totals.

Don't need a business license, but the scrap yards 'round here require photo ID for identification purposes, just in case there is a question about where you got that scrap. Too many places have been ransacked around here.

and I have run into this kinda bs crap before cuz the library here wont give me a library card cuz I dont have the right ID to get one...

I.e. leaching off of someone who does own a car

I have a drivers license (I never said I didn't have one, but the library wont accept it without secondary ID) and fyi I don't "leach off" anyone that owns a car.. I either take the bus or (since I don't know many people here) or I pay someone from CL rideshare ads to take me where I want to go or I can just rent a car from people on relay rides (which are people who rent out their cars when they don't use them to subsidize their ownership costs)..

Seems that I copied the wrong part of your post

this is what I was responding to.

getting a neighbor, friend or family to drive you..

And even if you don't do it you were advocating leaching off of people who own cars.

So you don't think family, friends, or neighbors should help each other out, huh? No, I wasn't advocating "leaching off" people that own cars, I do expect people to reciprocate in some way when someone does them a favor or helps them out (I didn't realize I needed to say all that).. golly gee whiz.. never considered when I had my first boyfriend that I was leaching off him when he drove me anywhere.. but then again, he was leaching off me for sex, cooking, cleaning and all that..

I have known people who bragged about not needing a car based on getting others to drive them around with no reciprocation. I still don't see what difference it makes to you since you see no value in voting.

An ID is needed for so many things that everyone has one, practically without exception

Comparing voter ID laws to poll taxes is ridiculous, its not a poll tax any more than requiring people to arrange transportation to the polls is a poll tax, or having to use your own pen or pencil to fill out your mail in ballot is a poll tax

OMG,..if those are the kinda people you know then ya need to hang with a better class of people..

Just cuz I see no value in voting in the US doesn't mean that someone's right to do so should be taken away from them.. if they want to do that then they should be able to, just as they have been able to in previous elections.. and if I want to speak about the subject then I will.. there are no rules that say I cant..

I didn't say you couldn't talk about it, just that with your claims about our system it seems pointless.

Of course it is a poll tax, because none of the others are designed or required.

What is ridiculous is the imbecilic comparison, you portray as an equivalence.

This is not the thread to rehash voter ID's...but i will just reiterate...It is true racism to make any claim that African Americans have any less abilities or desire to obtain a voter ID. That goes for all minorities.

There are poor and disabled in the majority as well as any and all minorities. This requirement may be a burden and inconvenience but not insurmountable to anyone that desires to vote. I am required to show ID or have two witnesses to my identity to vote and see nothing wrong with it... In fact I cannot understand why it was not law of the land from the beginning.

You established your identity when you registered did you not? I did. Why do you need to again do so beyond signing the voting roll to vote? If you actually read the judges opinion you would see that he makes the compelling point that he has come to see that requirement as nothing but harassment and unnecessary expense for people who cannot easily acquire the ID's specified by the legislatures.

You are of course welcome to argue with judge Posner but you really should know who you are tangling with.

You've lived at the same address for 49 years? That seems unlikely.

Yep... not the same address but the same polling place... what is so unusual about that?

As long as you actually have established your identification and citizenship at registration, you are legally registered to vote. Now, how do we go about verifying the person attempting to vote is the same person that registered?

What about the motor voter laws that allow you to register without giving an ID and vote at the same time? You know, the ones that just ask you for the last 4 digits of your SSN as verification? The ones that raise flags with information that doesn't match up, but don't get re-checked?

I registered in 91 and I think i have changed a bit since then. My dad registered to vote when he moved her in 1963 and I know he has changed. And as many people have pointed out already you need id to do most things in life. Why is it so fucking hard for you to understand this?

Then are you saying that all the voters who were turned away in Texas last week are lying and should simply have tried harder?

yes, I do get to decide who my co-workers are.
I don't talk to my neighbors (nothing more than hi).
I don't belong to any organizations.
Maybe the leaching thing is an Alabama thing?.. If I ever ran into someone like that they would be hitting the curb pretty darn fast.. Obviously a person would be pretty stupid to let someone "leach" off them all the time without some reciprocation acceptable to them.. there is a saying that "no one can take advantage of you without your permission"..
