I have known people who bragged about not needing a car based on getting others to drive them around with no reciprocation. I still don't see what difference it makes to you since you see no value in voting.

OMG,..if those are the kinda people you know then ya need to hang with a better class of people..

Just cuz I see no value in voting in the US doesn't mean that someone's right to do so should be taken away from them.. if they want to do that then they should be able to, just as they have been able to in previous elections.. and if I want to speak about the subject then I will.. there are no rules that say I cant..

Do you get to decide who your co-workers are?
Do you get to clear your neighbors?
When you join an organization do you get to kick out anyone you don't like?
I said I knew them, didn't say they were friends.

yes, I do get to decide who my co-workers are.
I don't talk to my neighbors (nothing more than hi).
I don't belong to any organizations.
Maybe the leaching thing is an Alabama thing?.. If I ever ran into someone like that they would be hitting the curb pretty darn fast.. Obviously a person would be pretty stupid to let someone "leach" off them all the time without some reciprocation acceptable to them.. there is a saying that "no one can take advantage of you without your permission"..

Who said I let them leach off of me.
I am not a hermit, but then I don't think I am better than other Americans.
You must be self employed or you couldn't get rid of "co-workers" you don't like.
For example the Air Force didn't even give me a choice of room mates.

You have to apply for an absentee ballot... this usually requires a drivers licence number or social security number... as well as a signature and a signature of a witness . Your vote will not count until your ballot signature is physically compared. So to vote absentee requires ID and a witness.

Why confuse her with facts.

Then are you saying that all the voters who were turned away in Texas last week are lying and should simply have tried harder?

I don't remember referencing the voters in Texas at all. Maybe if you told me which post it was in?

Yep... not the same address but the same polling place... what is so unusual about that?

Butch

Then you've registered since 49 years ago. You register every time you change addresses.

I registered in 91 and I think i have changed a bit since then. My dad registered to vote when he moved her in 1963 and I know he has changed. And as many people have pointed out already you need id to do most things in life. Why is it so fucking hard for you to understand this?

and yet a person can vote by mail (even for decades) without showing ID (or proving they are still alive) and all that..

Are you suggesting they should stop allowing voters to vote by mail?

Didn't they, like voters in Alabama have a heads up that they needed voter ID a year ago?

I don't see any such requirements for a ssn or dl number or a witness on this form.. I knew a lady that voted by mail and likely had for multi decades- she just died a few months ago at 95 but even dead she was still getting those annoying phone calls from candidates and ballots thru the mail (I could have filled them out and voted instead of her, actually).. when was the last time anyone looked at her ID???? or knew if she was still alive or not?..

no, but I knew a 95 year old that got all sorts of voter ballots thru her mail slot and the assumption was that she was still alive.. but she could have been dead for a few decades and still voted!

Because I'm a registrar and know the law and have worked in most states in the Midwest including Michigan. You always have to register again when you change your address. That is just a fact. If you look at the back of your voter card it likely even has a form to fill out and mail in to do so when you move.

When you go to the polls how do you think they know you're in the right precinct? That's because you've registered. Otherwise they wouldn't have your information and wouldn't let you vote at all.
