Yup, he said that several years ago. So where you going to raise a question or are you waiting for someone to feed you the talking points first?

cloudboy -> RE: Class Warfare (11/24/2014 7:15:08 AM)

First time I saw it. Thought it was funny. Thanks for taking an interest and contributing.

Since "leftist" isn't a "class," none of the above.

Try again. You can do this.

DaNewAgeViking -> RE: Class Warfare (11/24/2014 12:34:46 PM)

Buffet was referring to the 1%, which he is part of. What distinguishes him from the rest of them is at least he has a sense of shame, and is trying to do some good. Give him credit for that.

boy, has he got you fooled.. it amazes me how many people fall for his BS... (while he merrily goes along making more and more money).. he pushed Obama for the bank bailout (he owned stock in 2 major banks) and profited very nicely, thanks to US taxpayers.. I see him for what he really is..

Musicmystery -> RE: Class Warfare (11/24/2014 1:07:16 PM)

What's wrong with making money?

What's wrong with making money?

That was my question too. Why should anyone feel shame for being wealthy?

It's not being wealthy that's the problem. The problem is when their wealth comes directly or primarily from actions that make other people struggle even harder. Closing 100 stores and putting 5000+ people out of work.....then getting a fat bonus check or a stock bonus as a result of that action. Putting a company in serious financial trouble so it's stock prices plummet and people get laid off....then resigning from the company and getting a "golden parachute".

Those guys don't deserve a "golden parachute"....they deserve a "golden shower"

It's not the making money concept under exam, it's the making money process and the power relationship between capital and work. It's also a matter of protecting the economy so in the future it will be possible making other money, as money have the habit of being spent.

Alright, how about the leftist working class?

The leftist upper class aka the liberal elite?http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_elite

YouName -> RE: Class Warfare (11/24/2014 4:14:01 PM)

Seriously? Cause I've not heard much about any serious battles in those years.

I 'd say it's just about to start.
Rich folks today have forgotten that in the past they used to have their homes firebombed and poor folks have forgotten that they used to be a dozen people in a 40sqm flat and that's when they weren't working for 12 hours.

Time to remember, before we tear each other to pieces again.

Much better for the company to go under and put everyone out of work.
Not that this is always the case but it is more often than the anti rich would like to believe.

Well as you've just demonstrated, "leftists" come from all socio-economic classes.

That's among the reasons "leftist" isn't a "class."

Yes, I think you pretty much nailed it right here. There hasn't been much in the way of class warfare in this country mainly because of all of the programs implemented in the past designed to prevent it.

I don't think anyone actually "won" the class war, as much as it turned out to be an uneasy stalemate. It might be more of a kind of class "cold war" which is taking place - and perhaps a kind of "phony war" which often takes the form of "keeping up with the Joneses."

And just because someone may have an income level which might put them into a certain "class," it doesn't necessarily mean that their loyalties would be with that particular class. There are those in the upper class who would side with the working class, as well as many working class folks who would side with the upper class.

Meh. Wrong forum for this type of stuff...

Thanks Zonie. Be on the outlook for the cold war turning hot though as it has in some other places.

But you selectively ignored the second part of what I said....it isn't JUST that they put a bunch of people out of work....it's that they then ALSO get a huge bonus as a result of putting those people out of work. Oh...they can't afford to keep these people working....but then suddenly the company has money to give the executives bonuses???
