I've only used Skype with a person I already know, through written or verbal communication.

If they don't want to go to Skype, I don't force it, for several reasons that all come back to personal choice. For one, I want to get to know who the person is, and Skype can only add a visual to what I've already established. Building from that...I'm not overtly visual. I appreciate a good visual, and a lovely lady, but it's really not her face or tits I'm after.

A question for the OP. Why do you feel Skype validates who a person is in ways that the phone or lengthy communication cannot?

If you aren't into ldr relationships, then just pick a time to meet for coffee.

If you want to start an online relationship with someone on the other side of the world where the odds are you wouldn't meet for five years, then go for it. Because most new relationships don't last that long anyway so it doesn't matter.

RockaRolla -> RE: Skype (1/31/2015 4:14:42 PM)

If anything, I have the opposite problem of guys in a rush to move to Skype or some other IM platform. I interpret this as a lack of attention span as the medium lends itself to short messages sent quickly rather than in depth messages to be consumed at a slower pace. "It's so hard to communicate here!" No it isn't, it just requires more thought and effort.

I also think if you (general you) are so hung up on people needing to prove that they're "real" from the get go, your intuition may be off or you're just ignoring it. It also feels a little presumptuous to require a webcam ritual of sorts from a complete stranger. I can't speak for the OP as her profile is hidden (and also because I'm not the OP,) but if you're looking for a long term partner it's probably best for your time and sanity not to engage with every sub who messages you throwing their fetishes at your feet. There are plenty of those types to drive you crazy, and many of them will turn out to be the "get my rocks off online" variety. Starting off with real, human interaction, some vanilla talk before getting into fetishes, will go a long way toward establishing compatibility AND drive off the "fakes" because they're bored with the lack of sexy talk.

YMMV but I really get the impression that many of the people focusing on weeding out "fakes" are looking for a connection as quickly as possible and so jump in feet first, while taking a slower approach would solve that problem with less aggravation.

I also get the impression that those who are overly eager to Skype (not counting staying in touch w/family & friends), want to keep things on line within their virtual safety-zone, and never move to real-life interactions in the first place. So then you have the impulsive people who want to hook-up right away with those who only wanted on-line play and don't intend to take it any further than that, resulting in mismatches.
