you see! it was there weak beliefs that killed them. nothing to do with a lead projectile entering there bodies and tearing apart vital organs no, belief is greater than facts! physics and laws of the universe should not have been discovered by man, because faith is way more powerful than all that stuff lol this is what i am getting at, religion can override common sense! it drums it in to you that if you have your faith then you can somehow change solid facts.

Yep..................jesus was just another bloody witch doctor.......................I wonder where the hell the Christians got the name 'jesus' from ?? It's certainly not a jewish name.

If your question is a true quest for knowledge:

Hebrew: Yohan = "God is gracious"

which led to "God is salvation" = Yeshua in Hebrew

Then, the late Greek translation became Yesus

Latin translation: Jesus

(Note: All names are spelled phonetically)

ALL any religion has ever done for humanity is to cause murder, terror, false fear, and general suffering. millions of people throughout history have had there lives cut short because of this crap.
it's sad to see but it won't ever stop! 500 years ago the catholic church instigated a centuries long campaign of terror, torture, and murder. for the crime of "witchcraft" now it's islams turn to do some damage. what will it be next?! and i agree that islam is much more hardcore than other faiths and indeed islamic countries are nothing less than dictatorships. because religion has impeded the minds ability to reason and understand. so there countries are barbaric hell holes!

But it is rather obvious that whether you are a follower or not...Christianity and almost all other predominant religions...have turned the corner, Islam has not and for far too many people.

Hence the term extremists being I think, rather correctly used. They are not orthodox, they are not zealots...they are extremists to the point of violence of the worst kind. At some point and I think we are and have been there, they must be dealt with and far too often...rather harshly.

I always figured his name would have been the same as his fathers...................Joshua ? So he would have been Joshua Ben Joshua ?

Dvr22999874 -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/29/2015 10:15:12 PM)

He was still just another witch doctor (in my opinion) invoking some invisible and nameless wizard in the sky.

His father's name was Joseph. Also, by that time, it had started to become partially prolific for people to be called by where they came from.

Mary Magdelane was probably from Magdala.

He was know as: Jesus of Nazareth or Jesus the Nazarian

Then surely he would have been Joseph too ? Sorry if I seem a little obtuse but if he was joseph's son, he would have been named after his father and would have been Joseph the Nazarene; or Joseph ben joseph ?

Dvr22999874 -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/29/2015 10:29:36 PM)

My apologies for sidetracking this, Let's forget my question and get back to the thread, shall we. I will ask the local rabbi and he can explain it all to me maybe.

That depends. I'm not being a dick, but if you believe the Bible, Mary and Joseph were commanded to name him Jesus (Luke 1:31)

As far as customs of the time: some believe that there were other children (sons) at least one and his name was James. They believe this to the point where they believe they have found James' estuary ( stone box, containing his bones).

I think side-tracking a "Look how cool I am" post is considered a public service!

I'm afraid I don't believe IN the bible although I do know there is such a thing, because I have seen it and read it. I personally find 'The Jungle Book' or 'Winnie the Pooh' more believable and having seen some of those crazy sfb witch-doctors in West Africa, I was reminded big-time of some of the prophets and preachers in that bible.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/29/2015 10:45:45 PM)

I have this weird belief that Christianity wouldn't have made it out of Palestine if it hadn't had Paul as it's P.R. man and general propaganda minister. He and the rest of the gang, should have been topped alongside jesus and there would have been one less factionalised religion to deal with today maybe.

It's quite true that most Christians, today would more properly be called: "Paulians".

Paul (who never even met Jesus) preached his version of what he heard Jesus had taught. The only reference to anti-homosexuality in the NT is Paul, repeating and "upholding" the teachings of Leviticus (from the OT).

Jesus never said any such thing.

If Paul had had his mouth shut permanently, we might all be jews, muslims or pagans now.................Now THERE is a thought to conjure with *smile*.

DaddySatyr -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/29/2015 10:57:17 PM)

You're right! Jesus didn't come to convert Jews to Christianity; He came to steer them back to Hebrewism/Judaism (There was no Judaism until the third century. Up until that point, they were Hebrews).

I will stick with the "Spiritual, non-religious" option. Works fine for me

Dvr22999874 -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/29/2015 11:10:48 PM)

I believe he lived amongst the Essenes for a while, which would make him ULTRA orthodox. No way in the world would he want any other kind of religion to spring from his own, be it judaism or Hebraic, if this is so.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/29/2015 11:32:59 PM)

so basically it boils down to Christianity being based on falsehood and propaganda ? Talk about building your house on sand *smile*

DaddySatyr -> RE: thoughts on the power of religion (3/30/2015 12:15:36 AM)

"so basically it boils down to Christianity Judaism Islam Atheism being based on falsehood and propaganda ? Talk about building your house on sand *smile*"

Ya see what I did there? It works with any belief system.
