Which, as a news aggregator, provides links to news and headlines from everywhere, even including slimy rags like the New York Times etc

No shame there

including the bill itself
http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2015_16/measures/documents/hb2258_02_0000.pdf

the link to the page that DS brought up a few posts ago

So putting together a few numbers we discover that the 318,000 Kansans on welfare withdrew the grand total of $43,000 from dubious locations over the course of the year.

This means that on average a Kansas welfare recipient withdrew approx $0.14c from a dubious location over the course of the year. If this is replicated in each State in the Union, then a grand total of approx $2,000,000 is being squandered nationally in this squalid fashion. Imagine the difference that $2million would make to the Budget deficit!

This is clearly outrageous, a scandal and I am delighted to see the Kansas GOP taking action to end this shocking decadence and scandalous waste immediately. They are setting a standard that the nation would do well to match. Thanks be to God that at last we have some people in responsible positions who are prepared to tackle the hard questions and make the hard decisions necessary to get the country back on course....... <feel free to add further right wing cliches of your choice until you throw up>
/sarcasm

if i am understanding it rightly, the article doesn't mention "a year", it mentions "three months", so that 43k is ~4x higher.

also there is no mention of how many people withdrew the 43k in question here. it could have been 100, or 200, or whatever.

and hiding scandal/theft/abuse/fraud/whatever you want to call it, in large numbers to make it look statistically small, doesn't change the idea that its wrong and we'd do well to fix it.

no "right wing clichés" to add---maybe a leftist one though: "its for the children"---I trust they wont miss going to strip clubs and casinos, or purchasing alcohol and might appreciate the extra dollars for what they are intended.

Beggars should be happy for the handout, and not bitch. It used to be, there was a stigma associated with taking welfare

Now its a game, everyone games the system to the max. Politicians compete with one another to see who can raid the treasury the fastest for the most votes (and other forms of cronyism), and to their detriment the poor are trained by the government to live on handouts

It is refreshing to see such reform as we have today in Kansas. No matter how you try to belittle it, it is badly needed

Amusing that Republicans in Kansas think the poor is a bigger drain on their resources than wealthy corporations that demand everything from reduction in taxes, to prime real estate to build upon. If a wealth person shows up, Republicans will kneel down to suck their cock, but if anyone else has a problem, 'fuck 'em'.

I saw this story last night and thought it just sounded absolutely silly. The ATM cards are limited to $25/day in charges. Most people shop by the week rather than the day. Poor people working 40 hours/week at minimal wage now have to trudge off to the market on their way home to handle the food purchases. Its like Republicans wish to give the wealthy every convenience but be an absolute dick to the poor. Because we all know that being financially poor is such an easy thing to handle....

Yet per many sources, each of these ATM cards charge a fee of $0.85 after the first transaction. So that is six days financial institutions are gaining $0.85 of the poor. In Kansas (per most sources) place the poor at over 15,500 in the last few moments. That's $0.85 per card holder each day. That Republicans want to keep the poor from gaming the system is silly compared to how easily the wealthy do it already.

The Republicans at state and federal levels have been going out of their way to earn bad press. In a time they should be trying to minimize the damages, they are showing they still dont understand the concept of 'running good government'.

No doubt there are other words that are more appropriate, but using them here brings out the goon squad.

"Goon squad"?

The moderation here works very hard and is very fair. If anything, she tries a little too hard to be fair.

I suppose you can always ask for your money back though

This response quotes Lucy's post, but is not a rebuttal to anything she posted. It merely piggybacks off one of her links...

quote:

NCSL information on EBT
http://www.ncsl.org/research/human-services/ebt-electronic-benefit-transfer-card-restrictions-for-public-assistance.aspx

    quote:

In 2012, the federal government mandated restrictions be put in place to prohibit EBT card use in liquor stores, gaming or gambling establishments or adult entertainment venues. States can face financial penalties if they are not in compliance. All states issue Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as food stamps, through EBT cards. SNAP benefits can only be used to purchase food items and cannot be used to withdraw cash.

So, KS is passing a law making it illegal to use EBT cards for things that are Federally restricted establishments that they can be penalized for allowing? The audacity!

Then, they take it one step further, and added cruise ships? I can't believe there wasn't a revolution.

Also on Lucy's link, there was a table showing the 23 States that put restrictions on EBT cards (out of the "at least 37" States that issue TANF through EBT cards). What I found interesting (interesting that the Federal regulations don't prohibit it, and that all 23 States don't inhibit it) was that 3 specifically restrict EBT funds from use towards buying firearms. That shouldn't be allowed anywhere, imo.

We are not hijacking a thread, but I am addressing this.

People that have been as you say, run off the site, haven't been, but if someone is moderated or banned it is based on something they were doing and may have done repeatedly. It is no secret I don't like gun threads, but it isn't the topic, it is the violence or other forum issues within what is said that some members create on these very threads.

As I do believe I have told you personally, I don't have strong political views and if I do, I go straight to the source, not a forum.

Mod 3 that wasn't directed at you or at any mod...it was,if read as I intended it to be read, directed at Sanity's perception of moderation.

I actually thought that was obvious....guess I need to work harder at tweaking my posts

I assure you I wasn't intending in any way shape or form to pick a fight with you....sort of senseless to do so,no ?

sorry for the hijack

I was just called the goon squad. No one has been banned for that, though, IF harassment comes into it, it will be addressed with a ban. That is the way it is now. No staff harassment. We have the same protections as a member would in some situations. Volunteers should not be harassed. Period. So call me a goon without harassment, you are good. Harass me or any staff member and you are not. (You doesn't mean you specifically, but anyone in general.)

I am addressing the fact that some may think I hold political views that I will side with on the forum. That will not happen. If anyone is moderated or banned, they are not run from the site, but are suffering a ban and what their own words or actions have caused. Staff will not be made to be the bad guy and if anyone and I do mean ANYONE can provide anything that would prove favoritism, my boss and I would be pleased to address that.

What I find interesting are the tickets/reports that come in and how they tend to be the other side of the person reporting. We won't see everything but if things are pointed out, a slant may appear to be a moderator point of view. It isn't always what we take action on, but what might be reported to us. When we see a pattern, we do consider that and look deeper, but it can take some time to sort that out.

Fair enough Mod 3,I just wanted to stress that I was doing nothing INTENDED to marginalize nor minimize the job that mods do making the forums a pleasurable experience.
I'm sorry if my post was read that way in any way shape or form.
I happen to enjoy this place......I know that would not be so absent the efforts of the volunteer Moderation staff

I hope my last timeout was just that......my last

Fair enough.

If some will notice, I often pop up or pipe in when a misconception may be presented as fact or when I have opportunity to explain something. It isn't always what some might think, but that I am an opportunist taking advantage of a moment so I can save time in emails, etc.

We are good.

Few are run from the site. They could be banned from the forum or chat (before and when it returns) but they still have access to their profile and such. A ban doesn't mean site wide typically.

Enjoy the thread.
