Self defense, but I will try to be more restrained.

I'm not even willing to talk about a solution until we actually seal the southern border.

That would be the first step to my version of immigration reform, as that is the first step to the solution.

Maybe not my 1st step, but definitely one of the firsts. I do believe kicking up the teeth of the penalties for employers knowingly hiring illegals should be stiffer. Maybe securing the border (can't really "seal" it, and there have been people who have argued against border solutions based on someone using the phrase "seal the border") and stiffening the penalties would be co-first steps. lol

Yes these things should happen at the same time. My earlier point was that before you could prove that the employer didn't take proper precautions you have to prove that they actually hired illegals. So the first step in that process is to prove they are illegal. If the government says it is ok for them to be here, even though they are illegal I don't see how you can prosecute the employer.

I see your point, but he didn't EO amnesty. The President suspended deportation for a great many. That we're not deporting them doesn't make them legally here, nor does it change that they are still illegal aliens.

Btw, what does any of this (and I'm not calling you out specifically, because I've added to it, too) have to do with Kansas' restrictions on EBT usage?!? lol

It looks like a lot of people lost interest when it was pointed out that the whole premise behind the thread was a lie.

It wasnt The Onion or another parody site that published the lie, either

It was the Associated Press via Yahoo News

That is what I thought. Then they demand a "reasonable" debate on immigration but dismiss anything that doesn't end in granting citizenship to illegals. They go from one bad position to another.

Are you going to spend your whole life with your head buried deep in the sand or do you have a solution to help improve the nation?

I was wondering the same thing about you.
We start by enforcing the law, against both illegals and their employers.
We can make changes yo getting workers visas.
What we can't do is provide amnesty, that has been proven not to work.
The other thing we can't do is reward illegals by giving them any advantage over people who came here legally.

What does this have to do with the bogus claim made in the press which started this thread?

Well, it was almost a gun thread, but that didn't have any legs, so immigration is the logical next topic, regardless of what the OP is about. [:D]

That's BULLSHIT. You can't hide behind bad laws to perpetrate and continue something's that broken. You change the laws. My head is not in the sand here -- and I have a solution. You have no solution and spew empty verbiage at odds with reality, the future, and what would help the nation.

Your head IS in the sand. You fail to acknowledge that immigration reform is something both sides of the aisle want. What you can't wrap your head around is that there are people who do not agree with you.

What is wrong with our immigration laws, in your opinion?

Should we even have immigration laws?

Should we have an immigration process?

Why change the laws? There IS a process in place that allows for legal immigration from every single country in the world. Why should we change the laws to accommodate those who want to ignore that process?

What do YOU suggest we do with those whose LEGAL immigrants whose entry into this country has been delayed due to us dealing with the "amnesty wonders"?

I wonder...what other laws do you suggest we change to accommodate those doing something illegal?

epiphiny43 -> RE: Kansans can't spend cash assistance on bras or undies (4/26/2015 6:16:34 PM)

Putting any legal concept on a pedestal and ignoring all of human behavior throughout the history of urban societies is as flawed as it's past failures more than abundantly illuminate. Hungry people go towards food. Poor people go where there is work. Ambitious people go where there is opportunity. (Deprived people pay for sex, bored people pay for distraction, pharmacology or other, and the other universal motivators) This is where 'immigration controls' have any future and hope. Fat, asleep American consumers fed media and consumer bread and circuses by multi-nationals exploiting any less profitable market or region with the help of a purchasable legislature and bureaucracy in the First World aren't part of that working well.
Homogenous societies willing to maintain that with the sword have had limited success but all have failed in competition with more dynamic groups that respond to challenges better and faster by recruiting which ever talents and numbers were advantageous.
The economic and competitive advantages to human mobility and social recruitment are undeniable. The resulting social changes have been very uncomfortable for social or religious conservatives and often the bottom economic strata of the original society. As these conservatives are almost totally dead end philosophies anchored in false concepts of a golden past, they are mostly known as historical oddities by those who write current history.
People can be repressed or exploited. At serious costs. It has normally been more expensive than any benefits anticipated or perceived (To the wider society, not so often to the few beneficiaries!) to create the actual police state necessary to enforce concepts in opposition to actual human behavior. There ARE other ways of accomplishing social goals besides punitive policing actions, these are not attractive to doctrinaire practitioners of all the totally discredited punishment oriented models of guiding human behavior, or those happy only with simple solutions to simple analyses of problems.
There are other uses for Foreign Aid than helicopter gunships and torture interrogation training. Clean water projects and appropriate local infrastructure has blossomed many areas and created nodes of successful living that expand and grow. The frequent resulting issues from 'success' of costs to the ecology of energy and food acquisition and over-population are finally coming to roost world wide but are a different discussion.

Because the reality is that there are too many of them here, most have integrated them selves into the fabric of the nation and rounding them all up and deporting them is just not going to happen.

All of that plus we haven't even touched on the impact such a massive undertaking would do to consumer prices.

Fuck guys learn to deal with how the world really is,not how you want it to be.

All of you constantly accuse me of being in favor of confiscation.....one) not a true representation of my position.
2) and more importantly not possible in the real world that we live in....no matter that the second will never be changed.
Just not possible due to numbers.

The same is true of illegals though you will never admit that reality.

Why don't we stop catch and release?

And you're not???

You say there's too many illegals to deport...is that before or after Obama E.O.'d amnesty for the latest batch? At what point do we STOP letting them in, Mike? I've yet to hear you or anyone else from your side answer that. Or do we just throw our hands up and say "fuck it...we can't stop you...and ANYTIME there's even one family that crosses the boxer illegally, there's going to be someone from the left with a story of why we should NOT do anything about THIS family...so fuck it, come on in"?

That assumption is based on the number of times that I say something and you along with others blast me for saying the exact opposite.
