So you are claiming that she was drinking incubated gutter sludge?
I have seen nothing to that effect in anything that I have read.
Where did you come up with that?

We've been over this. She has her gutters hooked to two 55 gallon rain barrels which sit in the Florida heat incubating, that's where she gets her drinking water.

Now this wouldn't be a problem if she used a legitimate means of water purification which can be done for less money than she's spending on ineffective woo.

and is it not her health to endanger?

We'll get to that, but first answer my question. She IS putting her health in danger (and not for any real reason, certainly not a financial one, it's just because of her particular brand of crazy-stupid) right?

I mean you do get that her use of an unsafe water supply is putting her health in danger right?

There are many home purifier systems she can use for sufficient supply for one. My grandfather built a cottage on Commerce Lake, Mi. getting all of his water from it. Tasted just like today's bottled drinking water.

Abso-fucken-lutely, for instance the new generation of hollow fiber filters are positively magical. Thing is she's hobo squatting in a stolen house so she's probably not putting in a home purifier system. A third world shit hole option like the drink'n bucket is probably more compatible with her level of crazy but either way the point stands that there are all manner of well established options to make water safe to drink, none of which she is using.

Well then she will likely be an ER death persisting down such a path. It will likely be a slow death all of the way down...until it isn't.

Apparently you have some inside info that the rest of us are not privy to?

If you want me to agree with you, which I will if you can demonstrate knowledge and supporting facts.

So far I have not see anything more than speculation from you on how she is handling the water, and I went back to the OP and other sources and no agencies reported that she had any water related illness, neither has she been charged with anything with that respect.

The heavily dramatic language you use leaves me the impression that you believe we should see some gigantic monstrosity of a water treatment plant in her front lawn? That its impossible for her to make the water safe to drink any other way?

I'm not convinced since rainwater is very simple to make drinking safe by several methods that can be done on the counter top such as boiling, ozone, and UV. In the wild fire can be to boil water which will make most water found in nature safe to drink.

I am trying to find anything in your accusations that I could consider a fact and the slate continues to come up blank.

In a word it looks like you are either privy to information that you are not sharing with the rest of us or you are simply posting fantastical spin? Which is it?

For the rest, FYI; it would be very easy to downsize this small raw sewage to drinkable water in 10 minutes water treatment system to fit inside the space of a closet.

No, contaminated drinking water has never been an issue

Ever

Frequently they didn't manage to survive long enough to procreate.

The water coming out of the sky is great but look in a few gutters and you'll see an issue.....from there it's sitting in a hot bucket growing bacteria. I'll snap a picture of my rain barrel when I get a chance. It gets nasty in there fast.

I suppose the only ones who died from bad water were those who were codependent on the government to think and clean it for them.

Here are some ancient rain gutters and like missiesfavourite said and it seems everyone procreated just fine!

The government didnt even charge with her with a single health safety violation so?????

I am waiting for you to show me a bonafide health hazard instead of merely assuming one exists.

You realize your sources are talking about ground water contaminates not rainwater right?

so is the Sun!

Solar power kills bacteria in water

Scientists have improved solar water decontamination techniques in an attempt to reduce the spread of water borne diseases in developing countries.

Solar water disinfection is a simple way to kill bacteria in water. It is used by households in developing countries where safe drinking water is scarce. People fill plastic bottles with water and leave them in sunlight,

Raising the temperature above 170*F (boiling or leaving a water bottle on sun-heated metal or rock) kills bacteria. Also there are products like PUR and Brita that make faucet filters and filtering pitchers. A typical dug or springfed well (cement encased and covered) often has things crawling into it through tiny cracks (and dying). Don't believe Me? Go open your well's cover and peer down with a flashlight. Again, that's what the filters at the ends of the pipe are for. Any worries are easily assuaged with a few chlorine tablets. Or again, boiling it.

so what? whats it to you? there are lots of people that put their health in danger day-after-day, year-after-year, those that smoke, do drugs, overtake prescription drugs, eat junk food, dont exercise, drive too fast, sky dive, work as soldiers, those that are homeless, people that eat puffer fish, sushi eaters, drunks, etc, etc.. Imo, how she lives hurts no one else and its her life to live it as she wishes to..

The issue isn't what is safe but what is allowed inside the limits of an incorporated municipality.

A rainwater collection system and slow drip sand filtration is great low tech and safe water treatment for a household. Add a bit of chlorination to keep slime mold from growing int he cistern or in the pipes and you are good to roll for decades.

But in an incorporated area; the sewer treatment assessment, storm drain repair budget, and water storage and treatment for the while town are tied in with the water bills. If you want to opt out of the social contract that comes with living in an incorporated area; you have to move outside the incorporated area. If you life outside the city, all the sanitary requirements are ON THE INDIVIDUAL with no city government to bitch to if something breaks.

Wanting to be pioneer/surivalist/off-the-gridder is something you do on your own property outside of incorporated towns with social covenants against ignoring ponying up the cost of public utilities provided by the local body politic.

Her survivalist-fu may be very powerful; but you can't just ignore city regs when you are living in an area where you are part of city amenities like water/sewer/police/ambulance etc.

Well thats not quite the way it works though. Despite words like 'social covenant' has that all-for-one one-for-all kum by ah coziness that statists over the last few millenium have been pounding into our heads that is not the governing authority.

All the case law I have read on the topic cites health hazard to the neighborhood as one and nuisance as another.

There are more but in both cases the property owner is injuring someone else, or present a clear and present danger.......something along those lines.

Otherwise the version you just posted means that people relinquish their rights to live in a city. They dont. That said I will buy in if you can produce a case law to the contrary.

I think you got your wires crossed somewhere along the line.

Unless I missed something.

First just because you contest something does not mean it was discussed.

From your link:

Speronis first took an interest in detaching from the system during the years she spent caring for her husband, Zenny, who suffered from a neurodegenerative disorder. As his condition worsened, she turned to homeopathic treatments and other unconventional regimens: raw foods, colloidal silver, an avoidance of refrigeration and air conditioning, a focus on the promotion of regular bowel movements. It was a struggle to explain to the people around her, but she provided for Zenny without doctors, pharmaceuticals, or any medical assistance until his death at 84 in 2010. She self-published a book about “freeing” him from the health-care system and “home deathing him naturally.”

where does it say she or by anyone other than you that her water was treated with CS?

I've hiked the Appalachian trail, 2,182 miles from Georgia to Maine. As well as having stayed at a number of off grid places that used cisterns. It isn't that I'm unfamiliar with water purification. Everyone agrees that there are ways to do what she's trying and that includes the city:

quote:

ORIGINAL: http://www.bloomberg.com/bw/articles/2014-07-10/off-the-grid-in-florida-robin-speronis-fights-municipal-code#p2
“There are an awful lot of alternatives out there that meet code,” says Frank Cassidy, the city’s code compliance division manager. “The problem is that she is not using those methods.” He ticked off a litany of municipal resources for cisterns, composting toilets, retrofit grants, equipment, housing assistance, and programs to sell excess solar power to the grid.

The problem is that she's not using those ways.

Yup! Not real hard to do by a long shot. Suvivalists hollow out a hunk of wood and shove it in the fire, than the wood charcoal can be used as a filter as well. Its not as good as activated charcoal but it works.
