ORIGINAL: LadyPact Thank you, both of you. Comments like that really do mean a lot to me. I do think I have it so much better these days than say, for example, a spouse of 20-30 years ago. My contribution (such as it is) does get recognized a lot more than I think it used to be. It's a lot different now when they used to say 'the military didn't issue you a spouse so you don't need one,' to 'thank you for part you play in this'. I won't try to kid anyone. We're five weeks away from that magical twenty year mark. I'm looking forward to the last time we'll do a major move across the country. I've probably bored MP to tears about how I'm never going to want to see another moving box after that. Four major moves (the retirement one will make five) in just around ten years? Yeah, I'm done. LOL. When the NSA thing happened? I got called something like twenty minutes after it hit the news. They don't mess around with that stuff anymore. But, for active duty folks, I've somewhat resigned myself to that being the world we live in. I really don't think we're ever going back to pre 9/11 days. Maybe I'm just a pessimist but I just don't see it. I am not so sure I agree with you completely. I see the term "dependapotomouses" thrown around a lot on some military boards. I have also noticed some hate and anger towards military wives and girlfriends. (I have not noticed the animosity towards the males in those positions.) Those are throwbacks to an earlier era. Most likely those guys who thought you should live eat and breath the service 24/7. When I was in we called those guys brown shoes, because they were still living in the days when the Air Force still wore brown shoes as part of the uniform.
