Judge slams State Department over Hillary Clinton-related records

A federal judge is lashing out at the State Department for delaying for years in providing responses to Associated Press Freedom of Information Act requests seeking records about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's schedules and her top staffers.

At a contentious hearing last week, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon demanded explanations for why some of the AP's requests received no reply for four years or more before the wire service filed suit in March.

Leon said he was determined to establish "what has been going on in the State Department for four years dragging their feet, not addressing these issues for four years."

"I want to find out what's been going on over there. I should say, what's not been going on over there," the judge added. "The State Department, for reasons known only to itself ... has been, to say the least, recalcitrant in responding."

...

A lawyer for the AP, Jay Ward Brown, told Leon that the wire service was trying to find out what (Huma) Abedin did during her time as a "special government employee." ...

...Abedin is currently vice chairman of Clinton's presidential campaign.

...

Despite Leon's amazement at the four-year delay in the AP's FOIA requests to State, the wire service is not alone. A request POLITICO filed in November 2009 about State's approval process for former President Bill Clinton's paid speeches and business deals didn't produce any records until February 2014. The agency began to release records only after a conservative group, Judicial Watch, filed suit over a similar request.

It isn't about transparency, we all know that isn't going to happen. It is about accountability. I wonder if the judge will hold someone accountable and hold him in contempt of court. Just wondering

its about both imo.

this crap all came down with the 'quasi' word where public offices that were and are intended to be open to the public in fact are operating like private corporations instead of public corporations.

no longer are the days you can walk in and get records, you now need to ask permission from the over lords and of course when they do not produce the only other choice is to file suit.

Basically they make shit law and over time it becomes concrete because people have no idea how these seemingly minor/meaningless changes would affect their lives.

Now days there is so much of this, that a simple unjustified traffic ticket, to win, requires that you fight it all the way to the supreme court, and I am not being facetious, this is reality.

these foia and open records request requirements made another road block for the public to get public information, and they charge you for it too.

I will be surprised if that judge does not meet up with an untimely end.

caveat: by some act of random terrorism of course!

Yeah, that is the most transparent administration ever. Look at Bush, we still cant find out what deal Cheney made with big oil when he helped give our country away.

To be fair, those bullshit catchphrases lines were Obama's and it's Hillary Clinton's State Dept. that's dragging their feet.

quote:

Blah blah blah

In 2008, I called him "O-blahblahblah-ma" because "blah blah blah" was about as deep as his comments got.

Yeah, but it was deep and profound compared to what the other major party was using for slogans and jingoes.

Hillary has nothing to do with the State Dept now, and this is a current issue

Obama has everything to do with the State Dept anyway, regardless of who he appoints to further his personal ideology there

As I said, head and shoulders above any other administration for transparency. It is the most transparent administration ever.

I would like to see the documented historical proof of that. I think that lots of administrations were more transparent going all the way back to Washington.

Lucy "I think" is not a claim. But my opinion is that earlier administrations were surely more transpartent.

Get over it kinkroids. The most transparent admin. ever is like saying the most cloudy day ever.

The differences are marginal at best, war mongering, rent seeking at worst.

Our govt. isn't ours, it isn't even theirs...it belongs to the plutocrats that have bought it.

As I set here with my mind trying to figure out how Washington, Adams, Jeffereson, etc spoke into a microphone

As for their stupidity, we all have those days.

What we learned today - when leftists are in power, anything goes

Because they all do it

Not quite the same thing you hear when Republicans are in office though, is it
