Marini -> Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/22/2015 6:47:32 PM)

I am going to start this thread on Sandra Bland.
I already know that there will be a fair amount of comments, I will not care to respond to, and that many people will go way off topic.
lol, which means I probably won't be posting much.

That said, how can anyone justify what happened to Sandra Bland?
What traffic crime did she commit, that she should have been arrested for?
Changing lanes without signaling?

I am a Black woman, that often gets a little nervous when the police are behind me.
Unlike Sandra, I am usually so scared if a cop pulls me over my teeth are almost chattering.
I am so polite and nice and scared, my eyes probably look like saucers.
{In my head, I am thinking--Please don't kill me, Lawd I am not ready to die, I am driving while Black!}
*Pathetic joke*but damn close to how many Black people feel.

I had a policecar behind me over the weekend in D.C. and personally, I felt he was behind me longer than he needed to be.
The lane on my right did not have much traffic, he could have passed me if he wanted to.
I recently purchased a new "used/late model" car, and I have temporary tags on it, which in my mind is somewhat of a red flag.
I told the young adult in my car, that I often became a little nervous when the police are behind me for a long length of time, and I was fairly certain that the police officer was running my tags.

Many here think that DWB {Driving while Black} is a joke, and that it is not real.
Black people are 30% more likely to be pulled over for minor offences than other races. I believe Hispanics might be a close second.

Washington Post- Federal studies show Driving While Black is Real

From what I have seen and read, Sandra Bland angered the racist police officer that pulled her over.
When I watch the footage, the police officer appears to actually lose his mind, because, this Black woman DARED to be flip, and got a little sassy with him.
He threatened to "Light her up", and when Sandra got out of the car, he treated her like the Nig** he felt she was.
People would get upset if they saw someone treating an animal the way Sandra appeared to have been treated, over basically nothing.

Only GOD knows what happened to her in that jail.
I don't think it is possible to make people fair minded, moral and end racism.
What you CAN do is make sure there are camera's on every single policecar, and I have no problem with police having to also wear body camera's.

In the end, I am just disgusted.
I hope the whole truth comes out, but that does not bring Sandra back, or change the world that we live in.
Peace

Im with you Marini, heh and Kirata...The dashcam footage is bad enough, but ive been suspicious since they announced that she killed herself using a trash bag? WTF? WHY was she in jail for THREE days? for a traffic stop.

MrRodgers -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/22/2015 7:12:02 PM)

Insecure, brainless rednecks...with a badge that makes them feel like a man. Always a danger to society.

Plus, the authorities often use suicide as a cover-up and brings substantial doubt their story on her death.

Marcus Allen, a famous Hall of Fame running back from the NFL, was regularly stopped in his Ferrari by LA city and county police with the police stated position of suspicion of he being a drug dealer or the car was hot. You'd think they'd learn but hey...he was after all, black.

From the few articles I've read and my own interactions with the police, they can order you out of your car. All that they need is an "indication of a threat". What qualifies as an indication of a threat? Incivility, hostility or belligerence. And of course, the officer gets to determine whether or not you are any of those. Which means? The officer is going to win, at least in the moment.

Given this officer's suspension, I don't think he won AFTER the moment and after watching the video, he should not have.

Golden Valley, AZ My brother-in-law got a ticket for not turning into the middle turn lane and went instead to the left turn lane from the AZ highway Patrol. He got mouthy and wound up in jail. Same intersection he got a ticket for turing into the right lane. Idiot didn't learn the first time. LOL

I got a ticket because my turn signal bulb was burned out and made a left onto my street without signalling from the County.

So can I believe she got pulled over for some BS, yes.

He was guilty of "Driving While Black", anyone that is Black and behind the wheel is guilty of that.

We can all agree, that many cops while take you in for getting mouthy.
Your brother in law didn't hang himself did he?

Dispute Over Sandra Bland’s Mental State Follows Death in a Texas Jail

Its a bloody shame that the only chance she is going to get in court is thru a wrongful death suit and she wont be around to take them to court herself.

THREE days??? You caught that also???
She should have been given a warning/ticket/court date/ or whatever, and been released in a few hours!!!!!!
This is just sickening.
What if there had not been a camera on the policecar?

Thanks K!
This video has excerpts I had not seen on t.v.
Wow

JVoV -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/22/2015 7:52:05 PM)

The video shows that she was arrested for resisting arrest. No Miranda rights read to her In that clip. No other charges mentioned. What should have been a simple traffic stop with a warning or a ticket issued ended up needlessly costing a life.

Of course her family refuses to accept suicide as the answer. From the dashboard cam clip, alone I would believe Sandra was about to give that cop & his department the fight of their lives. Legally, in court, with the media attention and community support that would go along with that. Her spirit was fully intact, if not emboldened, as she was being cuffed.

I don't trust the official reports, including the autopsy. Her arrest was an injustice that lead to her death, and a real investigation needs to be done by the State, and by the Feds.

This is one that Reverand Al needs to be pushing for the powers that be to do everything within their power to seek justice, and the truth.

Actually, she was never told she was 'under arrest.' Plus, as I understand legalities. She is not required to get out of the car and consent to a search either, unless their is probable cause to believe she has been drinking, carrying contraband or some other actual criminal act.

JVoV -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/22/2015 8:43:02 PM)

Watch the video posted above, at 1:20, the officer specifically says "You are under arrest".

That describes police everywhere.

Sandra Bland is just the latest in a long line of summary executions. The cops in her case were marginally better at covering their tracks because they didn't kill her in the street. Having been arrested a few times, I know for certain that there was no trash bag in her cell and no way for her to get hold of one. If anything, standard procedure is to take belts, shoelaces, and anything else that could conceivably be used to commit suicide. One of the things that needs to happen during her autopsy is a rape kit. If my suspicions are correct, that will be infinitely more informative about what really happened to her in that cell.

ABC's Nightline will have new information tonight, apparently.

That should be interesting.
I understand that she was being held on $3,000 bond.

Doesn't qualify without the officer stating the charge immediately followed by Miranda.

Real0ne -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/22/2015 9:50:29 PM)

false arrest.
he never told her what she was under arrest for, no mention probable cause to search either her body or the vehicle, despite her demands to know, apparently it was a 'secret'.

after she started balking he arrested her for resisting arrest for whatever secret reason he was arresting her for in the first place.

It looks to me like because she was a tad upset he purposely pushed her buttons.

I am not up on the intricacies of traffic stops but I expect an officer must inform you why you are being arrested as well as why you are being asked to get out of the car. But then again since this is the land of the free road nazi terrorists what else would we expect.
