Here too. Our home secretary has just announced an enquiry into deaths in custody, in fact.

Meanwhile, on another note: is it confirmed that she died as a result of hanging by means of a trash bag? I don't get this. Here, as I suspect the USA, too, any item, including belts and shoelaces, that could be used in such a way, are taken away before you go into a cell.

For my iPhone I had the Bamboozer app. Supposedly it's the best. I just changed to the Samsung Note 4 and I'm having to learn to use it. I like the specs better than the iPhone, the larger screen, the camera specs, changeable battery, upgradable storage with a micro SD card, higher resolution screen and much more . Though for me, at least right now, the Note 4 is not user friendly. I don't have a streaming app on my new device yet. For the iPhone there are a whole bunch of them. You can search for them in the App Store. YouTube has a crapload of information on streaming live video too.

This has some good information on filming the police.

Mostly, he seemed to be fucked off that he was being challenged, to me.

Perhaps, although he himself set the tone the moment he pulled her over. There really wasn't any huge challenge at first. If the sole reason for pulling her over was to cite her for a traffic violation, then he should have just gotten on with it and avoided any extracurricular discussion by asking whether she's irritated. Just write the damn ticket and be done with it. Why cops feel the need to inject drama into every situation is beyond me.

Real0ne -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/23/2015 6:25:42 AM)

FR

There is a glaring flaw in that whole event.

1) The cop flipped his emergency lights on,

2) so she changed lanes to pull over to let him go past her.

3) When she did she didnt use her signal,

4) THEN he pulled her over for not using her signal.

Has a bad smell.

JVoV -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/23/2015 6:58:21 AM)

Not quite. She did change lanes to get out of the cop's way, after he had been tailing her, but he didn't turn his lights on until after the improper lane change.

Sandra's family now has her body back in Chicago and has had a private physicIan conduct an autopsy, but now the DA back in Texas is telling the family he needs the body and forensic evidence preserved for future examination. The funeral is scheduled later this week, so I don't know if it will be delayed longer now.

Real0ne -> RE: Sandra Bland / I will light you up. (7/23/2015 7:22:17 AM)

hmm...
Maybe I was hearing things then because I thought she said he had the lights on and she moved over. I do like that msnbc host stuck up for her.

Now that cop was put on admin leave, do you know if that was with or without pay?

quite honestly...I would have the autopsy guy brought up to chicago to do the "third" autopsy, with the best they have in chicago watching.
But im guessing its not "policy"...state rules or whatever.
But I wouldnt trust their guy if the first one has problems.
She had everything to live for, I do NOT buy the "suicide" in the slightest.

Last I heard, he'd only been put in a desk job, not any actual leave.

Agreed. It's even been suggested that the Dept of Justice monitor any further autopsy or forensic evidence collected from the body.

I hope the FBI is involved, for what it's worth.
It would be great to know the full story.
Changing lanes without using a signal, and now she is dead.
What a tragedy over nothing.

Why does this have to be a black thing ? This same type of shit happens to all races. I see it as an out of control Nazi cop thuggery thing. I'm a white guy and cops scare the crap out of me too because you never know what kind of cop personality it is that's stopping you. Any level headed person knows it's best to be polite with a law enforcement interaction during a traffic stop. Had she been polite she wouldn't have gotten into that mess though I hope this particular Nazi cop gets what he deserves.

One thing to keep in mind for those with smart phones is there are applications that stream live video to an off site server. They're fast to turn on and your device can be rigged up to aim at the drivers side window. There are even some people who rig their vehicles with camera all around to stream live video. YouTube has examples of this and examples of some phone apps too. YouTube also has some videos on how best to conduct yourself during a traffic stop as to usually avoid negative consequences such as in Sandra's case.

I don't think I have EVER said it was ONLY a Black thing, and it would be crazy to think that is the case.
It occurs more frequently and in disproportionately higher numbers to Black people.
In most of these cases, Black people are being targeted,
because they are Driving While Black or DWB.

Personally, I think Sandra should have put out the fucking cigarette, signed and accepted the ticket, and kept her mouth shut. The fact that she spoke up/and or got smart with the officer, did not give him a pass to mistreat her.

Statistics show for a FACT that Black people, are much more likely to be pulled over for minor offences than people of other races.

The police should NEVER have the power to treat people like this, and whenever it happens to anyone, it should be front and center news.
Many White people and people of all races have been abused, framed or killed by despicable people with badges/and authortity.

There have always been rogue/dirty cops and all manner of cover-ups throughout history, maybe the day is coming in which there will be much less of that.

*If you don't know the history of how Black people were brought here as slaves, and how many were treated after slavery {lynchings etc.},
then you need to read the history of Black people in America.
Hell yes, it happens to everyone. But it is has always happened more to Black people with impunity, and thanks to technology it is not so easy to get away with any more.

*Thanks for the great tip about the smart phone apps!*

Sure, I absolutely agree, this sort of thing happens disproportionally to blacks. And yes, I'm familiar with black history. I get it. I just wanted to point out that this is a bad thing all the way around for everyone. This assholeishness by some cops and further, the militarization of law enforcement, makes them all, including the good ones suspects to be wary of. Black, white, brown, carmel or chartreuse, we as Americans are all in it together. Regardless of her attitude, the conduct of the officer was uncalled for.

I am going to start this thread on Sandra Bland.
I already know that there will be a fair amount of comments, I will not care to respond to, and that many people will go way off topic.
lol, which means I probably won't be posting much.

That said, how can anyone justify what happened to Sandra Bland?
What traffic crime did she commit, that she should have been arrested for?
Changing lanes without signaling?

I am a Black woman, that often gets a little nervous when the police are behind me.
Unlike Sandra, I am usually so scared if a cop pulls me over my teeth are almost chattering.
I am so polite and nice and scared, my eyes probably look like saucers.
{In my head, I am thinking--Please don't kill me, Lawd I am not ready to die, I am driving while Black!}
*Pathetic joke*but damn close to how many Black people feel.

I had a policecar behind me over the weekend in D.C. and personally, I felt he was behind me longer than he needed to be.
The lane on my right did not have much traffic, he could have passed me if he wanted to.
I recently purchased a new "used/late model" car, and I have temporary tags on it, which in my mind is somewhat of a red flag.
I told the young adult in my car, that I often became a little nervous when the police are behind me for a long length of time, and I was fairly certain that the police officer was running my tags.

Many here think that DWB {Driving while Black} is a joke, and that it is not real.
Black people are 30% more likely to be pulled over for minor offences than other races. I believe Hispanics might be a close second.

Washington Post- Federal studies show Driving While Black is Real

From what I have seen and read, Sandra Bland angered the racist police officer that pulled her over.
When I watch the footage, the police officer appears to actually lose his mind, because, this Black woman DARED to be flip, and got a little sassy with him.
He threatened to "Light her up", and when Sandra got out of the car, he treated her like the Nig** he felt she was.
People would get upset if they saw someone treating an animal the way Sandra appeared to have been treated, over basically nothing.

Only GOD knows what happened to her in that jail.
I don't think it is possible to make people fair minded, moral and end racism.
What you CAN do is make sure there are camera's on every single policecar, and I have no problem with police having to also wear body camera's.

In the end, I am just disgusted.
I hope the whole truth comes out, but that does not bring Sandra back, or change the world that we live in.
Peace

He asked her to put out her cig which she was smoking in her car and he had no right to even ask her to do that.. he was the instigator of this whole string of events.. i also find it strange that she was still in jail 3 days later.. I tend to agree with this commentary on the situation and imo it happens too often.. and that is what has, in part, turned the US into a Police State..

I do believe that driving (or walking) while black is real.. I cant imagine how being targeted by cops like that affects people.. I have had very minimal experience with black people, coming to Houston where half the population is black was a culture shock for me but I have to say, all the black people i have seen, met, talked to here are extremely, extremely polite.. I have seen a few interactions of black people with cops and I know i would not be as polite as they are..

You're wrong, he had every right to ask her to put it out. In fact I don't know a cop who doesn't ask someone they stop to extinguish any lit object.

The cop was polite until Sandra got belligerent, so he escalated the threat level accordingly.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/7858892?cps=gravity_3967_-3505967028057514712

Sandra Bland, the black woman found hanging dead in a Texas jail days after a traffic stop, smoked or possibly swallowed a large amount of marijuana while in custody, her family's attorney reported the district attorney as saying.
Waller County District Attorney Elton Mathis made the disclosure in a text message to attorney Cannon Lambert, who has called the state's autopsy on the Chicago-area woman defective, Lambert said.
"Looking at the autopsy results and toxicology, it appears she swallowed a large quantity of marijuana or smoked it in the jail," Mathis said in a text message to Lambert that the attorney provided to Reuters.
Reuters could not immediately verify the authenticity of the text. Repeated calls to Mathis' office were not returned.

"This will of course be very relevant in any future criminal or civil litigation," the message from Mathis to Lambert said.

Way, way too many quotes to trim here.
I want to say, I agree with you on this one tj!
[;)]

From what I understand legally, the officer may have had the right to ask her to put out the cigarette, because it could be thrown in his face.
I wonder if she was blowing smoke in his face.

Regardless on where you stand over the cig, the whole situation was blown way out of proportion.
