Texas officials say the searches are unconstitutional. So do attorneys for the shaken women, who have filed federal lawsuits.

But lawyers and civil rights advocates tell the Daily News these cavity searches are really standard policy among the Texas Department of Public Safety’s state troopers, despite their illegality — not to mention that they were conducted on the side of the road in full view of passing motorists.

“It’s ridiculous,” said Dallas attorney Peter Schulte, a former Texas cop and prosecutor. “We would never put our hands anywhere near someone’s private parts,” he said of his time as a police officer in the city of McKinney. “When I saw that video I was shocked. I was a law enforcement officer for 16 years and I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw, who oversees state troopers, denied an interview request from The News. In an earlier statements about the videotaped traffic stops, McCraw said his department “does not and will not tolerate any conduct that violates the U.S. and Texas constitutions, or DPS training or policy.”

So how did Texas troopers hundreds of miles apart get captured on dash cams conducting body cavity searches under nearly identical conditions?

“The fact that they both happened means there is some sort of (department) policy” advocating their use at traffic stops, Jim Harrington of the Texas Civil Rights Project told the Daily News. “It’s such a prohibited practice. I don’t know why they think they can do this. It’s mind-boggling.”

The reason Im bringing this up ...
Do you think ANY woman (or man) should be made to stand and be put thru this?? apart from the indignity, loss of privacy, violation, public probing of your genitals without being arrested.
How many of you would have put up a fight? done it with out complaint???
No matter WHAT you have done, you shouldnt be sexually assaulted by ANYONE. on a public roadside? Finger in ass THEN Pussy with the same gloves WTF? ugh.
And people wonder why people get "belligerent" and mouthy...you forgot the word "uppity"

I could see someone like you being way beyond hysterical while being pulled over for a minor infraction, getting a lot more than the old glove treatment, then blaming the cops who you assaulted for no reason...

The issue in Texas with the searches will be fixed. You cant have a police force without giving them a certain amount of power, and you have to expect that things will go wrong a few times. People are imperfect.

Theyre starting to find out in Baltimore though, with their crime spike, that the police are a necessary evil

Warts and all, as they say

I wish my daughter, a heroin addict, had been caught and searched... it could have made a difference early in her addiction.

No Lucy I don't...but I read the article you posted... did you? They were speeding and seen throwing lit cigs out the window... then the officer that pulled them over smelled pot and called for a woman officer to search them.

I do not think it was right to search them as they did in public...but remember they agreed to the search. Or do you think it is ok to speed and use drugs? Now none were found granted but would it have been responsible to suspect drug use with good reason but let them get back and drive? I think they should have been taken in and given the choice of a drug test or search.

Or do you think the officer that pulled them over knew that his fellow lesbian female pervert officer would like a little feel and gave her a call?

BRAVO Lucy!

yes the black robed priests of the courts deamnd its only a minor intrusion on your rights. Maybe someday people will embrace the TRUE power of the jury to aquit people who have simply broken a rule that resulted in no damage to anyone except a BUTTHURT state extortion agency.

Thats a ill characterized understatement. The issue in Texas with the searches NEVER should have happened in the first place if law enforcement had any respect for the law in the first place as well as many other similar issues.

This is a case where these agencies are backed by the court agency and get away with it. Then because they have so much money and only need to raise taxes to pay for their atrocities use these tactics to force citizens many of whom have no financial backing or abillity to launch an effective defense to take matters into court often bankrupting them in the process or just drop it and 'just-us' club wins by default.

Another ill characterized understatement. the gubmint is the cause Baltimore in the first place.

The best way to understand the psyops behind this agency madness being foisted upon the people is to study the hegelian dialectic as it applies state overlord control. http://tkelly6785757.podomatic.com/entry/2015-05-11T16_39_04-07_00 and Everything Is A Rich Man's Trick

Parental failures often demand the government pick up the slack despite the resulting destruction of reserved constitutional rights. Failure begets failure. What problem has the government EVER fixed without creating 10 more in the process? 'Business' as usual!

That being said, I feel differently about Sandra Bland. The Prairie View City Council voted to rename the street where she was arrested in her honor. Sandra Bland Boulevard, which connects to Prairie View A&M University, will not change the legacy of police profiling that led to her jailing, nor with it keep another just like her alive long enough to get to court. However, it will serve as a constant reminder to every motorist who makes the drive — including police officers — of what happened there. From here going forward, every traffic ticket written to a driver on that street will bear the name of Sandra Bland.

In a town where even the dead are segregated along racial lines, this carries a measure of significance. It speaks to the power of collective power of social media, without which we may never have known her name or what came of her life. We may never have seen the witness video of her violent arrest and begun demanding answers about her death. Without question, there will be other hashtags, other names added to a most unfortunate list — some forgotten within hours or days, others in months. By renaming the street, Prairie View has decided that it does not want to forget what happened out there on that roadside.

“I know the death happened in the jail, but the catalyst for the death clearly came from the traffic stop,” Coleman said at one point during an intense exchange with McCraw.

The hearing Thursday in Austin was the first time lawmakers met to discuss the circumstances surrounding the death of the 28-year-old black woman from suburban Chicago. Coleman, chairman of the committee, promised future meetings.

Citing the ongoing investigation into the incident, McCraw declined to answer many questions, including one from Rep. Nicole Collier, D-Fort Worth, on whether there was a reason to arrest Bland.

Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford, demanded to know why Encinia was still getting paid

“For a lot of people, it’s pretty cut-and-dry what happened,” said Stickland, who said he has watched the dash-cam video of Bland’s arrest multiple times. “Somebody’s liberties were stomped on.

This seems to imply that you would look forward to a cavity search on the side of the road.

From the number of incidents it would appear that the police departments are hiring the imperfect.

CHICAGO — Grand jurors in Texas declined on Monday to indict anyone in connection to the July death of a Chicago-area woman, Sandra Bland, who was found hanged in her cell at the Waller County jail, one of the special prosecutors assigned to the case said.

But Darrell Jordan, the special prosecutor, said that “the case is still open,” and that grand jurors would reconvene next month to discuss other aspects of it.

Many activists have called for charges against Brian Encinia, the Texas state trooper who arrested Ms. Bland after a routine traffic stop in Prairie View, northwest of Houston, turned contentious. Mr. Jordan said Monday’s decision not to indict anyone related only to Ms. Bland’s death and to the conduct of the jail staff.

“It’s all in the way you phrase it,” said Mr. Jordan, one of five special prosecutors in the case. “The case is not over. That’s what I’m stressing right now. The case is not over.”

The Grand Jury Will reconvene in January
