ORIGINAL: DaddySatyr I'm an isolationist who's given some of his own precious blood to a completely useless military operation. That said, if we decided we were going to engage ISIS, over there ... engage them in a way that our only goal was the complete destruction of ISIS (who IS affecting us, here), I would be completely behind that policy. You know how I feel about this, if you fight someone, make sure that they never want to cross you again. Assuming there are any of them left. If all we are going to use is air power every ISIS stronghold should be a crater. Collateral damage is just that, an unfortunate byproduct of what THEY forced us to do, not our problem. Sounds cold but that is the only way to fight a war. Air strikes are a stop-gap at best. Ground troops kill only the people, but not the idea. Killing the idea will take much more than mere force of arms and military armies. It will take knowledge, humility, and a desire to do more good for humanity than evil. You can't reason with the insane, they don't care how much good we may want to do for humanity. If you had paid attention you would know that one of those Republicans you are trashing has two sons in the Marine Corp. Air strikes can be very effective if done right and with enough power. We have only been doing enough strikes to be less than useless. Enough to keep them agitated but not enough to really slow them down. Mideastern ground troops would accomplish two things. First it gives them a stake in the freedom they have won, rather than us handing it too them. Second, while I don't expect you understand this, their military power has to be broken before individuals can be reasoned with. You can't beat anyone with humility.
