ORIGINAL: BamaD FR Since those people who don't want gun safety for kids and keep reffering to cars I thought someone should mention this. I and everyone else here has seen numerous cases where kids as young as 7 have taken off with the family car, usually with tragic results. Of course the people who want people taught that guns are evil things that they should never touch will have ignored or forgotten these cases. Wait. I know your brain goes soft when you see anything about firearms. But damn. "Numerous cases" (well, I suppose even a few are a number) of 7 year olds (OK, "as young as") take off with the family car? So what do you propose--driver's ed for 6 year olds? And do you think that will (1) discourage or (2) embolden other 7 year olds (hey, what the hell, I've got the skill). Or do you suppose a more sensible approach would be to keep the keys out of their hands and start them in driver's ed at 16, when they can get learner's permits? You keep presenting this as people being against safety. That's bullshit and you know it. People are against encouraging young children from believing they are fully qualified to go off shooting. That's very, very different from a first hunt under dad's watch eye and guidance at a reasonably mature age. And very different from your myopic fear that guns are being demonized. Not at all. People want reasonable safety--for firearm use, and for children. Can you sort of wrap your obsessive head around that?
