Since those people who don't want gun safety for kids and keep reffering to cars I thought someone should mention this.

I and everyone else here has seen numerous cases where kids as young as 7 have taken off with the family car, usually with tragic results. Of course the people who want people taught that guns are evil things that they should never touch will have ignored or forgotten these cases.

Wait. I know your brain goes soft when you see anything about firearms. But damn.

"Numerous cases" (well, I suppose even a few are a number) of 7 year olds (OK, "as young as") take off with the family car?

So what do you propose--driver's ed for 6 year olds?

And do you think that will (1) discourage or (2) embolden other 7 year olds (hey, what the hell, I've got the skill).

Or do you suppose a more sensible approach would be to keep the keys out of their hands and start them in driver's ed at 16, when they can get learner's permits?

You keep presenting this as people being against safety. That's bullshit and you know it. People are against encouraging young children from believing they are fully qualified to go off shooting.

That's very, very different from a first hunt under dad's watch eye and guidance at a reasonably mature age.

And very different from your myopic fear that guns are being demonized.

Not at all. People want reasonable safety--for firearm use, and for children.

Can you sort of wrap your obsessive head around that?

Look, you can get killed by a car, we dont ban them.
You can get killed by a knife, we dont ban them.
You can get killed by a baseball bat, we dont ban them.

Now that you can kill with a car, a knife, and a baseball bat, what the fuck you need a gun for?

This is great posting. Five Star material. *****

Yep I had to take a shower after. When I worked at NSA I learned to put myself in the minds of some truely sick people.

And how do you teach a toddler that a certain chemical is highly dangerous??

How did your parents teach you not to drink dangerous chemicals when you were a todler? Since you probably could not read they would use the word "no" or some other non literate means of educational communication.

quote:

Show them every label on the retail and wholesale market for every chemical? Really????

At what age do you think children should be made aware of chemical toxic hazards?

Quite correct.
We were told "No!" and were not allowed into the cupboard where they were kept.
Not that we could get into it - it was always locked.

Many people, including Obama himself, have criticised the number of gun incidents per capita that ONLY happen in the USA where they just don't happen elsewhere in other 1st-woprld countries should tell Americans that something is severely going wrong with their gun policy.

If the phenomenia of gun violence that is present in the u.s. is unrepresented in other countries with similar levels of gun ownership perhaps it is not the policy which is flawed but perhaps more likely the mindset of those who are armed?

That is probably nearer the mark although most other 1st-world countries don't allow such a high percentage of public ownership by having much stricter regulations.

Do you think you need to teach your 8 year old child how to drive your car?

I was sitting on my dads lap with my hands on the stearing wheel when I was still in three cornered trousers.

Which in most civilised countries would be considered highly dangerous with penalties ranging from removal of license, removal of vehicle, and in some cases, incarceration.

Well I think it would be frowned upon here too, if caught. I remember my Dad being pretty careful on those occasions. On the other hand, it's a great way to learn. Of course, I wasn't still in diapers. That might be distracting.

There are two things he didn't say that are being assumed here.
One that is wasn't on a farm (no traffic).
Two that the vechical was moving.
Each would affect the safety and legallity of the action.
If the car wasn't moving I have no problem at all.
If there was in an open field and his father was actually in control of the vehical then it was reasonably safe and not covered by law.

A first world country is a country aligned with the u.s..
A second world country is a country aligned with the old ussr.
A third world country is a non aligned country.
Switzerland would probably be considered non aligned.
Cuba would be a second world country.
Both countries have near universal gun ownership and extremely low gun crime rates.

Calling the u.s. a civilized country is really a judgement call at best. That being said, my dad was in complete control of the car. I am sitting in his lap with my hands on the wheel looking out in between the spokes of the stearing wheel.  Remember also when I was that young there was only "armstrong" power stearing.

Car moving at normal speeds in city and urban traffic. What law is being broken?Remember what year we are talking about. No seat belt laws, no carseat laws.

After reading a bit on:
https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/

I'll wager if the anti-gun gestapo ever realizes that civilian organizations can get military ammunition for marksmanship training at reduced cost from the military they will have apoplexy. Rather than blowing up small arms ammunition that is approaching its expiration date; some is sold off, at cost, to marksmanship training programs.

I do! [:D]

I would spend the money hiring extra people to go round confiscating guns that aren't locked safely away.

Can't do that, pesky constitution you know. I would only send people I didn't like.
You do realize that the idea of trigger locks is to make them safe.
With a proper trigger lock on a firearm it is less dangerous than a iron, or a butcher knife, so if you want to confiscating guns with trigger locks you must want to confiscate the much more dangerous irons and butcher knives.
And I fully expected you to be the first to take a anti trigger lock stand, you have a rabid and unreasoning fear of firearms.

How would you know who's firearms weren't stored away to your satisfaction?
Surprise door to door searches? That pesky Constitution thing again. Sounds like you favor a police state, but of course only conserning firearms cause they are so evil.
