ORIGINAL: RogueCell I am a medic. Mortality stats for eating disorders are a very small piece of the pie. What about disabling an otherwise healthy, smart, qualified (because women with eating disorders tend to be of an overachieiving nature) woman for the best, most economically active years of her life? What's the price on that? Morbidity is a far bigger problem than mortality, and a much harder one for most people to compute. But that's because the eating disorders don't kill you in most cases, the damage you do with them however can shorten your life considerably. A lot of self harmers don't die from the cutting they do, as in loss of blood and all that, however the body fighting the infections and injuries take a massive toll on their system, the damage people do to themselves with weight bouncing up and down... This whole BS of you have to be a certain weight or size is just that, nobody who ever asked me out on a date ever asked me my weight or my size, maybe the reason why I went on dates with them. Who needs somebody who makes a puddle look deep? If you need an armpiece with model measurements to show off, you best look like one yourself and have charms, or a big bank account, or you could simply work on your own self-esteem and that you can be somebody without a trophy woman on your arm...
