ORIGINAL: AGuyNamedDave And just exactly what did the GOP have to offer in terms of anything resembling a change to the screwed-up healthcare system in the US? The ACA is far from great (barely even "good") but until Congress can get its head out of its collective ass and create some thing better we're pretty much stuck with it. Whining about it at this point is like a 5yo throwing a tantrum. I think the GOP was perfectly happy keeping government out of citizens lives in this regard. Why should they have offers anything. Oh, yes, they did have some measures like allowing people to buy insurance across state lines to increase market participation. As we see with Obamacare, one size does not fit anyone. So allowing choice for individuals would probably have worked much better. However, your question assumes government control and authoritarian force. I would ask you to consider just the opposite. Enact a system that maximizes individual choice. except they HAVE promised to replace it with something better, ever since 2008. Every time they tried to appeal it practically. Even now they keep promising, but they have not had one platform, plan or idea that has stuck in seven years. Individual choice for who? surely not the poor, the disabled, the veterans???? While Harry Reid owned the Senate and Obama had veto power, what sense was there in the House passing legislation that struck down Obamacare. But, I see it's still a boogeyman for the left to say the congress is a do nothing congress. Get over it. I haven't a problem in the world with this nation having a discussion about providing health care to poor, disabled or the veterans. In fact a couple of my pet peeves were when Clinton cut benefits to veterans. I believe whatever veterans were promised on the day the signed up they get until the day they die of old age. We do provide health care to poor and disabled already. The system for that didn't change with Obamacare, so your point misses.
