The Secret Service is squelching everybody's fun.

A petition on the website change.org called on the arena hosting the convention, the state of Ohio and the Republican National Committee to allow attendees to the July convention to carry weapons inside, citing the Republican Party’s strong support for gun rights.

* * *

The petition, which has drawn more than 45,000 signatures, calls the convention gun ban “a direct affront to the Second Amendment” that “puts all attendees at risk.”

But alas . . .

Guns will not be permitted at the Republican National Convention this summer in Cleveland, the U.S. Secret Service said Monday in response to a petition circulated by gun rights activists.

Under federal law, the Secret Service may ban firearms from sites visited by people under its protection including in so-called “open-carry states” such as Ohio, Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said. Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is under the agency’s protection.

What do you think? Should the Secret Service and the arena allow guns at the convention? Would the delegates be safer if they could exercise their Second Amendment rights?

Without a doubt. Absolutely postively yes. If there is a god he will allow this to happen. You are a prior service altar boy pray goddammit pray...make this happen. If it does I will repent my evil ways and rejoin the flock.

Yes. 20,000 rabid low-information Republicans with guns fighting over Trump VS Cruz VS some other guy the RNC throws in. That is what is needed! In fact, they should hand out guns at the door!

After all the complaints about "gun free zones" from those who support the second amendment, I think this is a great idea.

I think guns should be everywhere. Civic minded people should carry them all the time.

If one goes off and kills a republican, I will mourn just as much as if it had happened to a democrat. I think over fifty percent of the people walking and driving around should have loaded guns. I think it should be so fucking dangerous to commit a crime in this country that criminals actually leave, GO TO FUCKING MEXICO, they will love you there.

While I am not a republican, I can plainly see that idiot democrats just want to "let shit happen" to good people. That is fucking wrong.

Why are both parties so fucked up ?

What is a good idea? Let them bring their guns or make them leave their guns at home?

I am neither a Democrat, nor an idiot. One thing that is well-known... You can't fix stupid. If riled up, low-information people want to bring guns en masse to an indoor event, where there will CERTAINLY be conflict, they can go right ahead.

No, and not because I think it is a bad idea mixing possible heated disputes and anger with guns (although I do think that is a bad idea).

I don't agree with safety in numbers (of guns). There are certain places and circumstances where I don't feel it practical to allow them, that includes situations where it may make it more difficult for the SS to do their job. While the dark side of me would be interested to see it play out, changing my view to entertain that side would make me a bit of a hypocrite. I'd also be concerned that it could lead to future demands to allow carrying in the other situations that I strongly disagree with.

Truly, it wouldn't matter. The argument would be that any nut can sneak in a gun whether allowed or not, and by allowing guns the attendees can better protect themselves. Not something I buy into, but there's always an excuse no matter how things play out.

How about including an open bar and vending machines that sell ammo.
Yes I am definitely behind this. I like your idea of handing guns out at the door for those too poor to afford a roscoe.

No they should not.
The Secret service is doing their job.
It is a bad idea for a couple of reasons.
One a anti Republican nutcase would have an easier time getting in to attack someone.
Two even if he was wearing vote for Hillary and death to the NRA buttons the press and every lib on here would proclaim him to be a Republican NRA member.
Three NBC, ABC, CBS, and CNN would focus on the guns and not the convention. In the probable event that there were no incidences all we would hear would be how they doged a bullet.

FR there would likely be alcohol there and guns, like cars don't mix well with alcohol.

Letting them bring the guns, just think what will happen when Trump is denied the nomination

Nothing, of course.

Its only democrats that riot and burn down cvs's.

I'd be perfectly happy to give out arms at the doors of the republican convention, If the democrats will agree to have their convention after midnight in the southside of chicago - without police protection and without guns.
Yes, I think thats a fair trade.
