Is Trump a 'true' American ? Define what is just such an American and just how [he] one is as say opposed to others...a 'true' American. Are we to believe then that say HRC and Gary Johnson are not true Americans ? IF so, why not ? Conversely, just what makes one less of a 'true American.' OR...is that expression just more semantic vanity ?

Real Americans fight for the rights of every man. Real Americans fight for their lives. When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside, you have to take a stand because it doesn't help to hide. If you hurt their friends, if you hurt their pride, they have to be a man and not let it slide. Real Americans don't feel too strong about right and wrong and don't take trouble for very long. They have something deep inside of them and know that courage is the thing that keeps us free.

FR Actually "True American" is simply a buzzword. Mexicans are Americans, Brazilians, Uruguayans, Argentines, all Americans. However... White Man named it America. There were already people here, what did they call it ? The whole continent was given the name America after Amerigo Vespucci around the year 1500 or so. I have corresponded with a couple of American Natives, AKA Indians and in the end, we just don't know exactly what to call them. In Australia they call the Natives Aborigines, and actually I was never really sure about the etymology of that word, and of course word inventing MFs think they have poetic license. Basically, American means one born on this continent. Nothing more, nothing less. How people take it is a whole different thing of course. Some take it to mean loyal to the US or its government. (notice I did not use the word "and") Actually, a legal immigrant who goes through the process in any country in this continent can call himself an American as well. This "true" American bullshit is rubbish. What, you say the pledge of allegiance ? Salute the flag ? Revere the President ? Tell you what, I capitalise the word president because it is a title, not because I have any respect. We could have made alot better choices, if we had real choices. Or it is apple pie, which I don't eat so I guess you'll have to deport me. T^T

when people use the phrase "true American" they are hearkening to a particular historical sentiment and image of the people who settled in and created the united states.

The constitution is a dead letter paper instrument quite malleable to the powers behind the throne and is thus...to their benefit. But being a 'true American' from a historical perspective would be either American Indians or their predecessors at least by race and blood. As for politically I am thinking for many, that means European white, ready to jump on anything that doesn't comport with their policies and not those that would infringe on them, otherwise [those that aren't] staying in your own community, work, stay poor and don't bother the real 'true Americans' or leach off of us. If you can manage better despite that and 'our' policies, those of us 'true Americans'...then great. If not...then leave or die. My point being that Trump is the poster-boy for old white power and being the 'true American' and his 'telling it like it is' is simply saying out loud without the profanity, the same thing or worse what 'true Americans' say at the dinner table or in private...to each other. Just like the 'true Americans' that suggested to me years ago, that Obama should be dragged out of the white house and shot. (I guess lynching is too much work)

I know what they are they are lost people with no identity and building a wall to keep even the dirty Mexicans out...But I am not here to have an origin argument or migration argument and they will always push that day back later, never sooner. I believe many Americans to be racist for want of a better word or is ignorant a better word- like some of the english?, And he appeals to the lowest common denominator
