I still don't understand why he got such a bad reputation. I think his a sensible and practical man.

Look at this interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBTBBNOtbhM

CNN Journalist Question:
Let me ask you Mr President, you said that Donald Trump of the Republican Party is a brilliant, talented and smart candidate, what is it exactly about Donald Trump that made you say this and do you still have these views?

Putin Reply:

Well...well...., you are a very famous person in our country, you personally, not only as a host on a major media corporation but also as an academic, but why are you juggling with what I said? Let's examine what I actually said. I said in passing that Trump is a bright, colourful candidate, do you not find him to be so? I do! But what I did note and what I most certainly welcome is that MR Trump said he is wanting to restore relations with Russia.

We however do not interfere into the internal political processes of other countries, especially the US! We will work with whichever individual the American people vote for.

As a side note, America teaches everybody else how to live with their lessons in "Democracy", but you actually believe the US elections are democratic? Twice in US history was a President elected that had the most votes from Superdelegates, backed by the least amount of voters. Is that your democracy? And when we try to discuss this with our US colleagues, key word is "discussed", not "criticised", they say. "this is how we do it and mind your own business." Then how come you interfere in our business? Sort out your own issues first!

But I agree that the US election really isn't our business, despite the fact that there are reports of prosecuting attorneys shooing away international observers from US polling stations. The US is a superpower and possibly the only superpower in today's day. We accept this. We would like to cooperate with the US. No matter how the elections go, there will be a new head of state with great powers. The world needs strong super power country like this, we need it too.

What we don't need is their constant interference in our business telling us how we should live and getting in the way of Europe building their relations with us. The sanctions that you mentioned, do they affect the US? Not at all, they shouldn't care less about them. Our reactionary measures in response to Europe sanctions does not affect US at all! Who do they affect? Europe! Nevertheless, the Americans tell their European counterparts to "hang in there" for a while. I do not know why they should have to, but if they want to okay, they can "hang in there".

Anyway, we don't back anyone, it's not our business. Whoever is elected by the American people, we will continue to work with. Here is hoping this individual will want to improve relations with Russia and help build a more secure world.

I kinda feel for this dude because I remembered the times where our leader was villianised by western media too, and guess what? He banned them all, because they talk smack about him but refuse to publish any of his responses and clarification. Since they refused to publish his rebuttal, he banned them all. There was no social media back then for him to voice his rebuttals. Back then, if they don't get on the traditional media, then people will only hear one side of the story.

Freedom of Press bullshit freedom, when they control what they want to publish only to suit their own political agenda. Still happening today.

I believe third parties like Green Party and Libertarian desperately need their own news network that can support their views. For more balance view of all sides of the stories.

Since most networks are Dems slanted. Fox was created to represent the voice of Reps, fortunately.

Someone might find this 12-minute video of Putin speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum interesting (translation in captions).

I really like Putin. I saw the whole video. I would vote for him if he was running for President in my country. I like his sane, well thought out, practical decision making. And he speaks very frankly and bluntly. I think many in US hates him because he brings up the hypocrisy in some of the actions of the US in controlling what the world can or cannot do in accordance to their own interest. But Putin's job is to look out for Russia, and for his own country, his doing a great job! So Trump and Putin teaming up. I believe it would be a better world. Not something diabolical like the left is painting it to be, and some right politicians too.

So if I chose to be with a closeted gay man, that's bad taste?
Through the interviews I realise Putin has a great sense of humour. That makes him cool! And when he speaks, it's like, his just speaking from his heart. He doesn't talk like a politician too. And surprisingly shows alot of emotions when he speaks about what's going on from his point of view.

Personally, his just stating facts. US is self appointed world police on who can arm themselves and who cannot arm themselves. Who is allowed to have nuclear and who cannot have nuclear! Who can have missile defense system and who cannot.

So ya know, hopefully, they continue to make good judgements on this, but I think Russia should not be one of their worries at all.

He believes heavily armed nations balance each other out. So every nation will not so easily choose the aggressor solution. Thus prevent war.
My own country keeps arming themselves and stocking up too, as they believe it's a deterrence, ya know Thompson likes to bitch alot about my country spending stupid amount of money on military weapons. But to me, they can afford it, we aren't in debt, and there is still surpluses after that, then stock up away please! If it keeps us safe from our Islamic neighbours and it's just excess cash we have for toys!

Whilst I won't excuse the inexcusable, there are some things I really like about Putin; though I’m careful about who I admit that to.

He’s a leader who can plainly see the corruption of capitalism. Russia hugely suffered from the perils of corporate greed during Yeltsin’s presidency and Putin has sensibly taken a more socialist approach in the way he now governs Russia. What he has created or at least gone a long way to create, is a nation of proud and patriotic people…. Oh and he takes no bullshit from the West; one has to admire him for that!

He’s still a tyrant though

No, he talks like an absolutist monarch. Still, he's hardly the first leader Russia has had who's done since the Romanovs were disposed of, I supposed.

No, he talks like an absolutist monarch.

I would watch a movie base on Life of Putin. I don't think he sounded very monarch-like though.
I thought he sounded like a man who is very passionate about his own country.

He sounds like a man who is very passionate about ruling his country and takes exception to any attempt to interfere with his doing so with petty things like the rule of law or international boundaries.
No idea why that should appeal to somebody who lives in Singapore...

Odd that no one has mentioned that Putin's Russia is a corrupt gangster friendly State run by a person who is said to have amassed a personal fortune in excess of $50 billion last time I checked (which was several years ago).

That sounds like the opposite of the virtues Singapore likes to think of itself as embodying.

Greta, Russia suffers from an appalling level of corruption and Putin is just at the top of this heap.
