Christie's likely to get a cabinet appointment.

If Trump can get this country back running the way it is supposed to, no one will want any of the socialist stuff anymore. That's what people want when they get desperate to survive.

See, no one can name specific beneficial changes. Just this vague rhetoric.

No plan equals entropy. Things are just going to get worse.

I wonder how you'll spin it to make it the left's fault?

I'm confident you'll find a way.

It's the left's fault insofar as they are not satisfied with equal rights for everyone ... they want to change the country to become something it was never meant to be... a socialist nation.

It's the right's fault for not figuring out some way to reign in the power of corporations and failure to figure out a way to incent corporations to support the country.

What steps should Trump take to unite the country?

OK, I'll seriously entertain this for a second -- note that I don't think it would ever happen.

But if I were Trump's advisor, and he said, "I really need to unite the country -- how can I do that?"

I'd tell him to publicly push the Senate to confirm Garland, making the argument that
a) precedent makes clear it's Obama's choice,
b) Obama could choose to argue the Senate had it's opportunity to advise and consent and just appoint him (knowing it would be challenged, and that wouldn't be good for the country)
c) and that if they don't, he (Trump) will simply nominate Garland again, to ensure the smooth transition of not only power, but also good faith government of all the people.

That would get people's attention, even his critics. And it would be a step toward healing the nation's bitter divide.

To those obsessed with swinging the balance their way, he can make the point the Garland is actually a moderate, not an ideologue to be feared.

Not gonna happen. But it would change the tone and atmosphere dramatically if he did.

Wow... that's a great idea!

except for itd pretty much be a betrayal of all the people who voted for him, in part because they expected him to nominate a conservative judge.

Are you sure?
Some of the Trumptooners they've been showing soundbites from since wednesday don't look like they even know that there is a supreme court, never mind being able to name anybody the Senate stopped some moslem from nominating.

I think it would be great if Ginzburg retired with the deal that they'd put Obama's guy in her place and then Trump could pick a more conservative to replace Scholia. (Sp?)

There was a political science class? I took World History and American History.

We , saraah and I, both sincerely wish the American people, the very best of luck and good fortune, in the next four ( or eight) years.

I didn't say that *smile*. But as the man has been elected now, I can only suggest the country get behind him and try and make this thing ( whatever it may be) work.

Bernie Sanders

Bullshit, seeing as Sanders is not a socialist. Apparently you, like most Americns, like to throw around political terms with no understanding of what they mean.

Yes. It will be nice if the Democrats get behind and support Trump just as much as the Republicans got behind and supported Obama for the last 8 years.

Dvr22999874 -> RE: How Can Trump Unite the Country? (11/11/2016 8:21:52 PM)

somebody has to break the cycle of obstructionism sometime, surely ? Maybe if both parties took a long, hard look at themselves, they might conceivably come up with something constructive ? I doubt it though. It would mean both sides making concessions for the good of the people, rather than for the egos of the politicians and THAT hasn't happened here or in UK, so why should it happen in the US *smile*. Good luck anyway

I actually agree. I've been saying for years that the "our way or no way" attitude of BOTH parties needs to end. But just since Tuesday I keep seeing signs and messages from Trump supporters saying that now we all need to pull together. If they REALLY felt that, then they should have been saying that all along. Instead, the ones that are saying that are the same ones that have bitched and moaned about Obama for the last 8 years. The same ones that were spouting off about making Obama a one term president 8 years ago, and proceeded to drag their feet and do everything they could to thwart anything Obama tried to do. I have no patience, sympathy, or desire to assist such hypocrites.

tamaka -> RE: How Can Trump Unite the Country? (11/11/2016 8:51:30 PM)

I guess we need some third party to come along and help negotiate a truce and start getting both sides to work together to fix this. Too bad we don't have a third party... do we?
