ORIGINAL: tamaka Only the lucky ones. That depends on if they get a good one. Some are stuck with a man for their whole life that doesn't bring them happiness. It's funny I was just thinking about my grandma last night. She has been with my grandpa since she was 16 yr old until, my grandpa died at 89 yr old. She is uneducated. Can't speak English. Never worked a day in her life. Very reliant on my grandpa all her life for her own livelihood. My grandfather although a doting and loving grandfather to me. Was a horrible father and husband. He had terrible temper and often take it out physically on his children and his wife. But my grandma belonged to the generation where she just felt helpless without his financial support. And didn't know what she could do if she left. So her entire life, she suffered his abuse. Even when they were old, she still told me, my grandpa would hit her if she makes him angry. And this is way into her 70's. At my grandfather's deathbed, he did break down and cried and apologised for being such a terrible husband to her, despite her being such a devoted and good wife to him. And asked for her forgiveness. She refused to forgive him and give him the peace that he wanted at death. I didn't realise the enormity of my grandma's resentment for her husband until after he was dead. My grandma, all my life I have known her to always be very worried and stressed about anything and everything. She was seldom smiling. And just like, any little mistake she made, was like the end of the world for her, she always feared my grandfather's reaction. On her husband's funeral, she was smiling and happy and she look so free and light. I was just commenting to my brother it's crazy how happy she looks at her husband's funeral. It was like the joy of freedom from him! And like no kidding, my grandma is a changed person. She is always smiley and happy these days after my granddad was gone. And even looked younger and just lighter and fresher. So end of the day. I think my grandma was a good woman. But there aren't that many good men to be reliant on. I am sure there were plenty in my grandma's situation.
