I'm sure our brethren across the aisle will applaud the reining in of "executive overreach" and the reminder that the president is not above the law.

That's been a concern of theirs for some years now, after all.

Actually, you are correct. Except that the ACLU shops judges and is hardly the group to expect constitutional wisdom from.

" ... to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic ..."

I'm thinking that President Trump is doing his job on both counts.

Michael

mnottertail -> RE: ACLU blocks Trump's unconstitutional Muslim ban (2/1/2017 6:23:43 AM)

what protection is he providing from enemies who are foreign? none. From domestic? He is leading the terrorism of domestic enemies who are trampling the constitution.

Musicmystery -> RE: ACLU blocks Trump's unconstitutional Muslim ban (2/1/2017 8:19:25 AM)

Number of attacks from those 7 countries? 0.

Gonna be hard to improve on that with a Muslim ban.

And hard to pretend it's not religious persecution -- including our Iraqi allies.

You are making total idiots of yourselves, pretending that no one from hotbeds of groups such as ISIS pose no threat to the US. That Iran, means no harm to the US.

But what else is new

Yesterday, two days ago, some Saudi sailors were murdered by Iranian-backed suicide bombers seeking to collect their virgin sex slaves

According to reports they must have thought that it was an American war ship

So. We should wait for an attack. Brilliant.

Hey! Let's ban Everyone and be super safe!

Ridiculous spin. It's religious persecution wrapped in the flag of what used to be America.

All the spin is coming from you alt left radicals. It's not even a ban, it is a temporary pause while better (common sense) screening processes can be put in place.

yes and how many terrorists came from those seven countries....??????

Good question, but I guess you'll have to ask Obama.
Under the Act, travelers in the following categories are no longer eligible to travel or be admitted to the United States under the VWP:

Nationals of VWP countries who have been present in Iraq, Syria, or countries listed under specified designation lists (currently including Iran and Sudan) at any time on or after March 1, 2011 (with limited government/military exceptions).

Nationals of VWP countries who have been present in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, at any time on or after March 1, 2011 (with limited government/military exceptions).

The act was updated in February of 2016 to include Libya, Somalia, and Yemen (here).

I wonder why Lucy doesn't consider all of the "Men from No. Africa" who groped, robbed and raped in Germany. She's usually against that sort of thing.

If we have enough rapists in the Americas, why ever should we want to import more?

Or are "sexual emergencies" not rape-rape?

Okay, while I agree that better screening procedures are needed, I have but one very important question.

Why didn't he include the country from which everyone one of the hijackers on 9/11 come from? I mean his intent was to prevent Muslim radicals from entering the country.

Oh right, I forgot, we need Saudi Arabia's oil.

That being said, while I believe the 'temporary' ban is poorly worded, and even more poorly thought out, since he did not speak to the people that could have prevented the court challenges now being pursued, his choice of countries makes sense.

The challenges leveled are based on the wording, which included 'Muslim' which singles out one religion.

However, each of the seven countries share one common denominator.

As far as an effective government goes, they dont have one.

Each is in the middle of a protracted civil war, each rebel faction has strong ties to terrorist organizations or anti-american groups, and finally, the US embassies and consulates are so overwhelmed with visa requests that thorough back ground checks, considering the lack of infrastructure within the local governments that would make such checks possible, is almost non-existent.

One thing that I thought about the more I have read about this order, both in the news and on the US State Department website, is one over riding point.

Why include religion as a basis for the ban in the first place? Hell if it were me, I would have just said, I order a temporary halt of immigrants and travellers from those countries simply because there is no way in hell to tell if they have a criminal record, affiliated with anti American organizations, or even if they actually came from one of those countries.

As to the point of stopping refugees from Syria.

Anyone on these boards remember the Mariel Boat lift from Cuba in 1994?

These were 'refugees' officially, and everyone celebrated the fact that Castro was going to let them leave Cuba.

Turned out that a good number were prisoners (and not political) that he released from over crowded prisons. Along with the legitimate refugees, we got a good number of Cuba's sex offenders, drug smugglers, rapists, and violent criminals.

Yup, lets put a temporary stop on refugees from those countries until we find out exactly who or what we are getting. I dont care if they are Muslim, Catholic, Baptist or what.
