Why is it meaningless? I think it's a great idea. What difference is there... all of those communities need awareness, understanding and acceptance from the general population. And they are all.sex-related. Why should the kink community be left out?

Oh ffs...

Nnanji -> RE: LGBTK? (5/5/2017 6:24:23 PM)

Wait! Wait! How long did you google before you decided it was safe to post? Spent some time on it so you could feel assured being mean was going to work?

What does whether or not it is a personal preference have to do with anything? For me, kink is not a personal
preference. Being a slave is what i am.

Being stupid is what you am.

So much negativity in one poor little old man.

It is not a value judgement sweetcheeks just an observation. I calls em like I sees em.

I don't understand why there is such negative reaction regarding my suggestion that the kink community join forces with the lesbian, gay, bi, trans, queer community in order to open up communication and hopefully garner public support for the lifestyle. For me it is not a 'personal preference'. It is who i am. I am certain i'm not the only one who feels that way. Why is it wrong for me and those like me to want to be understood and accepted in the world?

mnottertail -> RE: LGBTK? (5/5/2017 11:39:42 PM)

There is not a one size fits all and its already being done and has been done since 'the old guard' days which was effectively post WWII........so 70 plus years...

tweakabelle -> RE: LGBTK? (5/6/2017 2:11:33 AM)

Lesbian, gay, and bi aren't about gender either. It's about sexuality.

While this may sound true at a surface level, it only takes a minute's thought to realise that this claim is a fallacy.

All the categories of sexuality cited - lesbian, gay and bi- - are defined by gender. Lesbian refers to women who are attracted to other women, gay refers to men who are attracted to other men and bi refers to men and women who are attracted to both men and women.

These sexuality categories are both inconceivable and meaningless without a prior gender classification. So, while gender and sexuality are discrete categories, our current classifications of sexuality are wholly dependent on prior gender classifications and cannot exist meaningfully without one.

Therefore, to claim that there is no relationship between gender and our current notions of sexuality is just plain wrong.

I never said that gay and lesbian is a choice.

For me, neither is slavery. That's why i don't fit in here with all of you who just do kink for fun, like going bowling or something. For me it is in the depths of my soul to be a slave. It is definitely not a choice for me.

This is exactly why your proposition fails.

While you are looking down your nose at those of us engage in BDSM, or D/s, or even poly 'for fun,' we are exactly the people who make it impossible to prove it is an orientation or gender identity. We're the people who can take it or leave it who will be the folks who will help to confirm that it's a choice, for at least some people.

Show me the gay man on these forums who's sexual orientation is a choice.

This is not to say that you don't have the personality that you do, the kind of relationship or sex that you prefer to have, or anything else. At the same time, while you *want* to be that, it's still situational.

Why do you feel the kink community needs to be a protected class? Are you willing to trade it off in comparison with issues like sexual orientation, DV laws when we start talking about vanilla people, or protection in freedom of religion?

LGBTK? and why not. Why not what exactly?

Can you please translate your gibberish.

Anyway I thought Trump had them declared a band of deviant outlaws who had to go piddle in the bushes

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: LGBTK? (5/6/2017 8:58:07 AM)

There was a time when many in the LGBTQ "community" resented BDSM groups for riding on the coattail of the decades of efforts put in by the LGBTQ individuals who fought, protested and lobbied for civil rights to be acknowledged.

If BDSM D/s groups want to fight, protest and lobby for legislative change, in my opinion, it should be done by BDSM D/s groups. Not tacked on to the end of LGBTQ, a marginalized group of people who have risked family, friends, assault for living their lives openly.

I won't speak for "they", but I can tell you why I participated in protests, walks, fund raisers and events.
Because I believe that "we the people..." includes Those People too. Bought the t-shirt, literally. Also said, "yes, I'm one of THOSE People"

I do, but I think those things are changing. Gay acceptance, though not complete, has grown over the years.

Not really sure if I see it as the same, though. I think this is the missing element:

“They have a whole complete sex life. He fantasizes about her sexually. But he still fantasizes about men too.”

I've been in kink and come back. During periods of absence, I don't have the yearning that other people do. Swinging leather is fun and all, but it's not a core part of my sexuality.

If I were to hang up the leather tomorrow, the majority of *actually* engaging in kink are rather far down on my priority list. I would miss the social aspects. I would miss the connections that I've made because certain friendships I've established because we had kink in common. I would miss my appreciation of artistry in leather. Even something as simple as interacting on this board is more important to me than S/m or kinky sex. Sixteen other things.

All of this is choice to me.
