https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2017/05/26/trumps-statement-on-ramadan-is-almost-entirely-about-terrorism/

“We, as American Muslims, shouldn’t be defined solely in our relationship to bad things that we have nothing to do with,” Hamid said. “We’re also normal people who happen to be Muslim and to see us and our history in America so narrowly is plain out offensive.”

“I mean do you really want us to fight ISIS during Ramadan?” Ali said. “We’ll be weak. I’m fasting from dawn until sunset. Not even water? Not even water! I mean, I could kill terrorists with my Ramadan breath.”

The things I quoted here, is precisely my problem with the Muslims.

1) People who follow your religion, a large number of them, whole countries, are doing terrible things. Beyond Terrorism, oppressing women, killing gay people, preventing Muslims who want to leave from leaving through legal consequences etc. So at the moment, the religion that they have by choice as Americans chosen to be a part of, has been involved, WHOLE countries have been involved in atrocious things. So don't even try to say that, whatever they do has nothing to do with me. We just happen to believe in the same things, but doesn't mean I will do what they do!

Hell, how about stop trying to like shirk it and really address the issues your religion is causing! This whole side tracking is my biggest problem with self-proclaim moderate Muslims.

2) A Muslim Whining about how weak they are because they cannot even drink water. Sounds familiar even at work. That they are too weak to do anything at their jobs during this month. Because they voluntarily chose to starve themselves all day.

That's not getting any sympathy.

I am glad Trump is bringing up Terrorism during Ramadan. Because while Muslims are busy voluntarily playing starvation diet for one month! Their religion is busy running terror over the world!

What the hell do they want Trump to say. "Omg you Muslims are so awesome to be able to starve yourself for a month! Kudos to your ability to do that!"

Speaking as someone who is Muslim and has grown up as one allow me to reply to your post.

1) Yes, people who follow my religion, and some 'Muslim' Countries are indeed doing terrible things. However: a) A large number of Muslims do not commit acts of violence, nor do they believe in committing acts of violence. If you're actually interested in fact based analysis you might want to read the following book: Who speaks for Islam? What a Billion Muslims Really Think. (there is an excerpt and review on this link if you don't want to read the book: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=878603780 ) b) When protestants and Catholics were committing acts of violence or when a conservative Christian targets abortion clinics etc. we do not accuse all white people or Christians of being violent, nor do we expect them to apologize for acts of violence committed by their fellow members of faith. In fact, based on FBI data (again, actual date), there are more acts of terrorism committed in the US by white supremacist groups than Muslims. c) Muslims by large numbers do NOT support the so called Muslim nations. In fact, if you were to conduct a pole of Muslims in the US, a significant majority is against the oppressive Saudi regime. It's troubling that the US is supporting these oppressive regimes. d) If you read that book or the article from the link, you will notice factual analysis that indicates Muslims by large number do NOT support act of terrorism, and in fact, majority of the victims of terrorism are Muslims. And even the minority that supported acts of terrorism base their support as political motivation, not religious one. e) This is not to say there isn't a problem with Muslims committing acts of violence. There is a very real problem that needs to be dealt with. Muslims are as much afraid of being the victims of violence and terrorism as anyone else. And you may not know this, but a lot of the arrests of so called Muslim terrorists are made because of tip off from other Muslims. The man who committed the brutal act of terrorism in Manchester was also tipped of by Muslims and mosque leaders, unfortunately their warning was unheard: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/salman-abedi-manchester-attack-reported-family-imam-friends-did-nothing-a7757726.html

2) Those Muslims who 'whine' about fasting as an excuse to perform poorly at work are wrong. There bad people who will make all kind of excuses for their poor performance, Muslims or not.

Again, I am not saying there isn't a problem. There is a real problem with some Muslims who tend to think violence is the only way. And we need eradicate those extremists and extremist ideas. But if you keep pointing fingers instead of realizing the bigger issues at play and work together, there is a better chance of solving these issues than if we keep pointing fingers.

Those extremist ideas come from the Koran

If you were a Muslim you would already know that.

I disagree, since if even HALF the Muslims believed that, the world would be a different place. Second, even if you're correct, one can say the same about the Bible or any other religious books. If your argument is "but Christians don't really believe in the violent passages etc...." than first read my post including the links and sources provided above, if you wish to have an intelligent discussion and not just making dumb comments.

kiwisub22 -> RE: The criticism of Trump Ramadan Message (5/28/2017 10:46:56 AM)

Have to say - if you justify your dislike of terrorism by verbalizing dislike/intolerance of Islam, and you claim to be a Christian, then you really need to read the foundation of Christianity - the Bible.

Its full of nasty doings - think about God turning someone into salt for disobeying his command, or having a whale swallow you for the same reason. How about the murder of first-borns in Egypt? Does that sound like a rational act? Then there was the man who turned his virgin daughters over to a mob , to be used as they will, so the mob wouldn't bother an angel in his house - yep, sounds like a really wonderful act to me.

The point being - you can use anything to justify your nasty deeds - including writings purported to be from god. If people want to grab power, money , prestige, fame - whatever their impetus is, they're going to do it regardless of rationality.

Even if Christians "do it too" (which they don't) it still wouldn't be okay

Do you deny that the Koran teaches violent jihad? Teaches of fuckslave rewards for horny Muslim boys who die slaughtering us? Because I can post the verses of violence again if you would like. Do you deny that Muslims have slaughtered and enslaved countless millions since the time of Mohammad? Because that history is readily Googled as well

As are the thousands of deaths jihadis cause every month around the globe, as is the fact that in many Islamic states all other cultures have been destroyed

It is an ongoing process, with millions of examples of how it works and why documented and available for study

Here is an interesting article from the As Salaam Islamic Center about quotes advocating violence in the Quran.

http://assalaamic.org/does-the-quran-advocate-violence/

BoscoX -> RE: The criticism of Trump Ramadan Message (5/28/2017 11:44:13 AM)

That's a propaganda website

According to the New Testament, Christians were instructed by Christ to stop following the verses of violence as commanded in the Old Testament (Matthew 5:38 etc)

Nowhere in the Koran are Muslims admonished to similarly refrain from the teachings of violence as taught by the Koran

To the contrary, such violence is still preached to this day

Which explains why in the last 30 days there were 163 Islamic attacks in 25 countries, in which 1086 people were killed and 1027 were injured

And why approximately 95% of violent conflicts around the world involve Muslims

Except that I have established why it is propaganda

What makes it so

They twist the facts to suit their false narrative (which is easily skewered by the real facts) whereas I post facts that stand alone, without the spin or leaving out pertinent details

If you had an open mind that was capable of learning you could easily use that link to learn that it is a widely accepted fact that the vast overwhelming majority of violent conflicts on this Earth involve Muslims

But because you are desperate and determined to remain ignorant and because you cannot refute the facts you attack the medium and the messenger

Which is almost always the best sort of 'debate" any leftist has ever got

BoscoX -> RE: The criticism of Trump Ramadan Message (5/28/2017 12:01:59 PM)

The beginning part of the propaganda website you linked to:

quote:

“You shall destroy all the peoples … showing them no pity.” (7: 16)

“… All the people present there shall serve you as forced labour.” (20:12)

“… You shall put all its males to the sword. You may, however, take as your booty the women, the children, the livestock, and everything in the town — all its spoil — and enjoy the use of the spoil of your enemy which the LORD your God gives you.” (20:14-15)

“… You shall not let a soul remain alive.” (20:17)

All these quotations are from the part of the Old Testament called the Torah (Deuteronomy), a scripture that is holy to both Jews and Christians.
But very few people would sanely suggest that the Torah sanctions violence. The reason of course is that these verses and others much like them are subject to various interpretation and contextual assumptions.

Mathew 5:39 alone (which I posted in rebuttal) proves that to be twisted facts designed to push the leftist / Islamofascist false narrative

"Propaganda"

BoscoX -> RE: The criticism of Trump Ramadan Message (5/28/2017 12:12:54 PM)

Islam and the Koran directly preach violence to this day, and acts of terror as taught by the Koran are a daily occurrence. The only thing that slows Muslim violence is armed resistance in the form of various police and military units and their associated intelligence operations

Quite.
And all Catholics are out to kill Tom Hanks.

Lucylastic -> RE: The criticism of Trump Ramadan Message (5/28/2017 12:33:12 PM)

I have to wonder why he never equates christianity to the south american violence killings, drug cartels. et al. the highest majority are catholics.
Its like ignoring the inquisition, or the killing of native americans/canadians.

As the article I posted said, it's all about CONTEXT. Something you consistently want to ignore.
