It's all about disrespecting the flag, the police, the military, the country...

And that the NFL is standing with them will translate into extremely bad luck for NFL stadium attendance and television ratings

Damn! I thought it was a football game. When did football become synonymous with patriotism?

The government has been using football games to gin up patriotism for war. They actually pay the Pro teams to let them put on their flag and anthem shows.

So all those NFL owners and CEOs agree with what Kapernick did, yet he still doesn't have a job.
Hmmm.....I smell two faced doubletalk.

The NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was/is not stupid. He knew full well that he was putting his whole career on the line by taking one action, completely by himself. Not telling anyone or asking anyone else to join him.
He had a heck of a lot more to lose with his high-paying NFL job than the average person did.
I didn't even agree with his particular action to begin with. (I just didn't take to the particular action itself, but I understood his reasoning even after that.) I'm on the train of "keep politics out of it," generally speaking. But seeing all the puss oozing out of the boil as consequence, I can see the point, now.
And as it turns out, so have some other people who have acquired significantly greater fortune than the bailout suckass Trump, by more honest means and by far superior business aptitude.

The conversation has been about what Kapaernik did, not about why he did it.

There are likely NFL owners who want to win right here, right now with little care about the future of the team. But, even if those owners brought in Kap (assuming they don't have a QB that can run the offense better), it's going to take time for him to learn the playbook. This isn't backyard football. He can't just show up, step in, and succeed. Teams that are focused more on the future, will likely pass on Kap because his window and upside aren't necessarily long enough for them to invest the capital and time it would take.

Kapaernik had a fantastic start to his career as a starter... Super Bowl appearance the first year he started, and the NFC Championship game the following year. From his Wiki:
    quote:

Kaepernick began his professional football career as a backup quarterback to Alex Smith, and he became the 49ers' starter in the middle of the 2012 season after Smith suffered a concussion. He then remained the team's starting quarterback for the rest of the season, leading the team to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994. During the 2013 season, his first full season as a starter, Kaepernick helped the 49ers reach the NFC Championship Game. Over the next three seasons, however, Kaepernick and the 49ers failed to qualify for the playoffs. Kaepernick's performance was pointed out as a major reason, which led to him being benched multiple times over that span.
    [Bold Mine]

If the bolded statement is accurate, he may also be viewed as having passed his prime (no pun intended).

Fucking dumb and dumber in one person. Ratings are down for all spectator sports, including baseball and basketball. Kids are preoccupied with other things. You can't hold Kaepernick responsible for the viewer slump in baseball.

Give it time.
By next september he'll probably be responsible for topless darts being taken off the telly back in the '90s...

I just thought it was funny.
BTW, it's not like you do anything to undermine the trope of the pathologically stupid and obnoxious RWNJ.

The difference here is that I wish you would stop, because you do damage to any society to which you belong... and in the same way, you have done a lot to turn this forum into a cesspool.

Sigh, an overpaid overpriviledged football player makes an ass of himself during pre game ceremonies. Even the prez uses him as a comic foil while playing the crowds. And the money guys behind the football teams don't like it.

Is that a good enough summary? Maybe people will start realizing how irrelevant pro sports really are.

I'm never sure if you're too dumb to avoid being this oblivious (especially to yourself), if you're so afraid of realizing you're wrong that you force yourself to reject reality, or if this is all just about being as stupid and annoying as possible and watching how people react.

Seriously, there needs to be fewer people like you in this world.

Musicmystery -> RE: NFL owners, CEOs respond to Trump comments (9/24/2017 12:58:25 PM)

NFL players, teams and owners across the league responded Sunday to President Trump's criticism of players kneeling in protest during the national anthem, with some kneeling, others locking arms and one team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, choosing not to participate in the national anthem ceremony at all.

As the "Star-Spangled Banner" played at Soldier Field in Chicago for the noon game between the Chicago Bears and the Steelers, the Pittsburgh team's sideline was virtually empty.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told a CBS Sports reporter prior to the game that his team would stay in the locker room during the anthem.

"We're not participating in the anthem today," Tomlin said, adding that the action was "not to be disrespectful to the anthem" but to remove the team "from this circumstance."

"People shouldn't have to choose" whether to kneel or stand during the anthem, he said. "If a guy feels a need to do something he should not be separated from his teammate who chooses not to."

President Trump calls for kneeling NFL players to be fired

"So we're not participating today," he said. "That's our decision."

The Steelers' action was among many varied responses today and over the weekend to President Donald Trump's calling for the firing of NFL players who kneel in protest during the anthem.

Earlier Sunday, a host of players in London took a knee and locked arms together as the United States national anthem was performed.

OMG! Those devious libtards have mounted a hostile and successful takeover of the football!! This is political correctness gone mad! First those self hating uppity tinted boys insulted that National Anthem, and then the club owners and managers felt forced to support them against the wonderful orange haired but otherwise white to his very core President Trump.

Is nothing sacred? Will we all be forced to kneel for the National Anthem? Where's Bosco when his leadership and wisdom is so sorely needed?

PS: is it possible to include more vapid cliches in four lines?

Pretty good and I am thinking that 1% mentioned, is 1% of 1% now. I have no idea when or where POTUS is speaking, don't care and don't watch.

I am thinking maybe instead, jumping-jacks while we hear Ray Charles' 'God Bless America' ...it's a better piece anyway.

The president isn't the division. The division is leftist trash spitting on the flag and kneeling during the anthem

The president merely reflects the people's reaction to the leftist anti-American hate and hysterics

The Prez should not have opened his trap.

This had NOTHING to do with the world...or Presidential politics.

Truly...MOST folks hold fast with the players.

(I don't).
