Actually (I hate to agree but).....flawless.

no---because sitting at home and watching/hearing the national anthem carries absolutely no expectation of the behavior associated with it during a live ceremony.

Those who are watching at home are also not being paid to do so.

These guys are (well paid) actors.

Wanna express your opinion? Do it on your own time.

the point being that the meme is not "flawless"---it doesn't have a leg to stand on.

and I agree---they are being paid to play and being respectful of the flag and the national anthem is a part of the game...or at least it used to be.

a little more "oh no comrades"

quote:

If there’s one thing I enjoy in the fall, it’s football. I think that’s standard across the board. Americans love watching their favorite teams play on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday nights. It’s a deeply ingrained part of American culture that was devoid of politics until now. No, it’s not because Donald Trump slammed some in the National Football League who take a knee during the Star-Spangled Banner. This started last year when then-quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers Colin Kaepernick decided to take a knee during the national anthem. Did Trump decide to kick it up a notch? Yes—and he was counting on the media, the NFL, and the liberal pundits to go haywire, which they did. Players, owners, and anyone who doesn’t like Trump offered statements of condemnation, and the liberal media was spouting off about how this could be a culture war the president can’t win. Wrong—72 percent find Kaepernick’s national anthem antics unpatriotic…

As the Journal noted, these players shouldn't whine that people are booing them. Progressivism is a cancer, and it’s spreading into sports. Trump can’t win this culture war? He already won it before the first salvo was fired. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Many Americans would rather just watch the game, but that’s looking increasingly impossible now.

So all those NFL owners and CEOs agree with what Kapernick did, yet he still doesn't have a job.
Hmmm.....I smell two faced doubletalk.

The NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick was/is not stupid. He knew full well that he was putting his whole career on the line by taking one action, completely by himself. Not telling anyone or asking anyone else to join him.
He had a heck of a lot more to lose with his high-paying NFL job than the average person did.
I didn't even agree with his particular action to begin with. (I just didn't take to the particular action itself, but I understood his reasoning even after that.) I'm on the train of "keep politics out of it," generally speaking. But seeing all the puss oozing out of the boil as consequence, I can see the point, now.
And as it turns out, so have some other people who have acquired significantly greater fortune than the bailout suckass Trump, by more honest means and by far superior business aptitude.

The conversation has been about what Kapaernik did, not about why he did it.

There are likely NFL owners who want to win right here, right now with little care about the future of the team. But, even if those owners brought in Kap (assuming they don't have a QB that can run the offense better), it's going to take time for him to learn the playbook. This isn't backyard football. He can't just show up, step in, and succeed. Teams that are focused more on the future, will likely pass on Kap because his window and upside aren't necessarily long enough for them to invest the capital and time it would take.

Kapaernik had a fantastic start to his career as a starter... Super Bowl appearance the first year he started, and the NFC Championship game the following year. From his Wiki:
    quote:

Kaepernick began his professional football career as a backup quarterback to Alex Smith, and he became the 49ers' starter in the middle of the 2012 season after Smith suffered a concussion. He then remained the team's starting quarterback for the rest of the season, leading the team to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1994. During the 2013 season, his first full season as a starter, Kaepernick helped the 49ers reach the NFC Championship Game. Over the next three seasons, however, Kaepernick and the 49ers failed to qualify for the playoffs. Kaepernick's performance was pointed out as a major reason, which led to him being benched multiple times over that span.
    [Bold Mine]

If the bolded statement is accurate, he may also be viewed as having passed his prime (no pun intended).

Before the whole political mess started I read a few articles on Kap. They all said roughly the same thing. He was an outstanding college QB who wasn't able to step it up to pro level. He has a lot of problems seeing past his primary and secondary options under pressure. Going to primary and secondary options only is fine in college. But, eventually the pro's picked up his flaws and began to eat him alive. No pro team is going, or was going, to pick him up because he just couldn't learn to function in their environment. Of course, now that it's all been made political by the left it's all because of the color of his skin. That's BS and an example of the real racism of the left.

All you quote are overt propaganda sheets, you're just far too stoopid to realize it

Someone else points out a truth, you're conditioned to mock them just like the ignorant little backward punk that you are

I never understood the purpose of televising the national anthem every game, every week. It just wastes time. We don't watch them dress, why do we need to see if they're patriotic or not on any given day. Real celebrities sing it once, maybe twice a year, for every sport? And it's usually a butcher job of Whitney's rendition. (Still, the best ever)

Or it's some local talent.

Does basketball have to do the anthem every game? I know it's bad for baseball, with so many more games each week than football.

The purpose is to instill patriotism in military age young men. It is a persuader, a piece of military propaganda with the unfurling of the flag, the playing/singing of the anthem, and the jets fly over. The Pentagon pays a goodly sum to the home team for the advertisement.

Sounds like a waste of taxpayer money.

As a person who can dig through my files and find my draft card from the Vietnam era I'd say that an all volunteer Army suits me fine and if that Army markets itself rather than fills the ranks with a draft, I don't have a problem with it.

~FR~ It amazes me that he is too stoopid to realize that the linked arms and knees taken yesterday were a direct "Fuck you" to him personally. He is about the most ignorant, lying, worthless piece of shit in the world.

Don't kid yourself. I'm sure he understood the message very clearly. I'm guessing sooner or later he'll have a message of his own that will be more than just tweets.
Remember back in 2011 when Obama humiliated Trump at the White House press party? I suspect that was the moment when Trump decided he was going to run as an FU to Obama.
Just sayin'.

Still got mine too. It was something of a moot point since I went into the Air Force 6 months before my lotto number came up 361.

DaddySatyr -> RE: NFL owners, CEOs respond to Trump comments (9/25/2017 6:18:53 PM)

Every time I hear this issue brought up on TV (even by the left), they make mention of the incredible social media presence of these athletes and all I can think of is: "Exactly, you asshole!"

Social media is exactly the place for them to voice their concerns. When they are suited up, they are on their boss' dime. I have always said that it is absolutely the athletes' right to voice their opinion and the government should never sanction them (or you or me) for speaking their mind.

The first amendment, though, does not guarantee employment if you piss off your boss.

My problem is not with the players, but let me add this: it is MY RIGHT to free speech to call them out for the ignorant pieces of human flotsam that they are.

My issue is with the NFL. They're supposed to be the boss. They need to start listening to the fans and instruct their employees, accordingly.

Right back at you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with his pride in the USA, or him calling out the shitstains disrespectingt the flag and the anthem.

I think they should stop playing the National Anthem at sporting events.
