Whitman, under the new definition would have been considered a terrorist.
Under the current definition, a terrorist is anyone that commits an act of violence with the intent of harming a large number of people, with or without some political/religious motivation.
At this point, they are still trying to figure out how many of the dead and injured were due to gunfire and how many due to the resulting panic. Why how they were injured matters is irrelevant in my opinion, they were injured as a direct result of some idiot shooting into a crowd.
Police indicate that he use an automatic weapon, i.e a weapon capable of firing more than one shot each time the trigger is pulled, for those who seem to insist that it means a weapon you do not have to cock or load after each shot.
He was a resident of Mesquite NV, had previous run in with the law, and 64 years old.
If it was actually an automatic, then there is the following to consider.
1) the weapon was licensed and registered with the ATF, in which case it was legal.
2) The weapon was an illegal conversion since you cannot buy an automatic from just any firearms dealer, and the wait time for the paperwork is a minimum of 4 months while local and federal agencies run your record.
Now, let the gun control trolls from other countries start in on the 'sins of America's gun owners.'
