Well as South Park portrays Satan, indeed, He gets a bum rap and a bum deal.  Sucks to be Him!

Literature tends to have books on either side, but all in all, Satan is supposed to be bad just like your Higher Power is good.  Man always looks for someone to blame. Can't be OUR fault after all!

There was an amusing book about a psychologist in the Us who afdter Satan hade become trapped in a com[puterised maching, was tasked with psychoanalising him.. It is a lengthy book but towards the end Sanat made the comment that he was after all Christ's brother and daddy didn't like him and thus his brother (Christ) had all the heavenly power behind him and got the best publisists (The Bible).. He contended that he and Christ are nothing more than two sided of the same coin. His job was to test mortals and Christ's was to reward those who past the test but in the end they were both necessary for without either one there would be imballance. As I said early on the book "SATAN" is both fictional and humourous. It was a good read and at times thought provoking.. Whilst I do not believe in the Satan of the bible (one of who's names was Shatain ~ not sure of the spelling~ and who was when the Hebrews were wandering about the deserts wasa local minor deity. Or in another line of thought, he was Sutec , another name for the Egyption God Set. Both were necessary for the soul toprogress.) I do believe that there are negative forces, chaotic if you will, and those forces if turned loose on our plane of existance which is not their normal place, do create havoc and are able to turn the minds or wills of humans towards negativity and as we would see it evil... They and thus Satan is not evil but a force of nature in the wrong place at the wrong time.... Dangerous? Yes but not naturally evil..

Gauge, I agree the banana is evil, but am unwilling to pin that on Satan.

Why I think, in the course of that work of literature, Satan gets a bad rap is... Gor created him, God is all powerful and all knowing (hence suggesting that he knew even when Satan couldn't) and both made Satan and the entire set up which allowed the whole fall from grace to happen in the first place.

If God wants to go about creating universes, creatures and heavenly realms, without enabling his creatures to be equipped with the same abilities and understandings that he has, he has created not only the good but the bad.  To have created the bad and then pin all the fall out on one of the lesser creatures he made so that he can have a convenient scape goat seems kind of less that 'All perfect, All knowing, All the time'  (Think God wears that T-shirt?).... God has shown his lack of ability to deal with his super-powers and super temper a few times in the bible... like flooding and massacring all of creation (oh, except for the darlings he hand picked for the boat) when he realized he had fucked something up somewhere and it was not going to plan...

It took a little digging but I found him.  I always suspected Satan  (http://www.collarme.com/bdsm/v/48864/details.htm) was a Canadian.

He looks to be in good shape for 50 but he really needs to update that hairdo.  That went out of style after the Jews stopped wandering around the Egyptian desert.
