Most of the high heels I have are 3 to 4-1/2 inches. But, for everyday office wear, I like 1-2" heels. I think heels become uncomfortable based on what height of heel a person is used to wearing, and the condition of their feet, and of course, the shoe itself. For me, they become uncomfortable for any length of time longer than about 2 hours (if I am standing), at about 4-1/2 to 5". Of course, things like gel insoles can help. Also, as someone mentioned below, platform high heels are available now, which are a bit easier on the feet (but personally, I am not fond of their look). I love flats, and only wear heels for special occasions, or when I want to feel sexy, or when I know someone else wants me to wear them. Someone trying to wear 6" heels who isn't used to heels is going to have a hard time, and possibly hurt themselves doing that, I think. The 8" heels you refer to are (I think) called "ballet boots" and are (my impression) considered fetish wear only, and not for walking, by most people who buy them. - Susan
