Alright, I took the suggestion of taking down all but the American flag, as for my yard gnomes and a birdbath, those stayed, they look cute, and those are in the back yard BTW.
My neighbors asked me “why did you take down the other flags” I told them I had a few suggestions and was also advised to “appease” the nazi neighbors”, come to find out they have been trying to get them out of the neighborhood for sometime now, seems they enjoy trying to scare the new neighbor and the house I bought seems to be up for sale about every year (the neighbor rents btw). My new neighbors were hoping since I seemed to be unafraid of them, by putting up the flags in the first place, that they had found someone to assist in getting rid of the trouble makers. Yes, I found out they ARE trouble makers. I told everyone I had no idea about them to begin with, that the real estate woman never told me. I also told them that perhaps they should talk to the city counsel about it, see what can be done on the legal side of the house, they said they had tried that before but didn’t feel they got anywhere, it is/was so bad even the landlord was afraid to evict them from the rental house.
So, again, I take down all but the American flag before going to work a few days ago, oh, I also have a stone plaque symbol of the Marine Corps, that’s buried on the side of my walk way an inch or so into the ground and not coming out now (or do all the “have to appease them” think that should go too?) I come home from work that evening, no issue, everything is okay, the skin heads are out on the porch, and of course I got the verbal attack yet again, to include “hey half breed whore, smart move on your part, if you didn’t take down that shit Polish and Indian flag we would have burned them and them taken care of you”, I didn’t say anything, flipped them off went in the house and called the cops. Cops said they would send someone out to take a report in a few days, again, wonderful US laws hard at work.
I come home from work this evening, and gee, seems appeasement did NOT work. I now have two broken windows and a swastika spray painted on my front door. The police were there already and three of the four were on the ground, in handcuffs, they got caught, by my neighbors. One of the men across the street saw them doing this and it seems he and a few others had enough of the BS, he came out, shotgun in hand and stopped them from doing any further damage, another neighbor called the cops, and yet another video taped the damage and the evidence that they did indeed do the damage. One of the policemen told me they too have been looking for yet another reason to arrest and have them charged even if it just another petty crime (the wonderful US laws at work). Seems they committed allot of petty crimes against the other folks that live here, but not enough complaints to really do anything about it.
Am I worried about them taking retribution? Nope, turns out it IS a good neighborhood, someone just needed to take the first step in getting rid of the problem.
Allot of people said I was getting what I asked for by being proud of my heritage, that I should appease the skin head nazi neighbors. Well, I tried that BS, didn’t work, but being who I am did. I have to know, those who said those things to me, have you ever stood up for what you believe? Stood up for what’s right? Do you always appease those who would act like that? Do you turn your back on who you are just to make someone else happy?
Perhaps I went about it wrong, but see, I was raised to be proud of who I am, and to show my pride. I know allot will not agree with me, and I will receive scathing reply’s from this, as I already have. I was stupid in ever taking the appeasement advice to begin with.
You can never please every one in the world, so don’t, either you are accepted for who you are, or you are not, either way, the only one who has to live in your skin, is YOU.
If you’re ashamed of who and what you are, then the only person you hurt is YOU
The best part seems the landlord isn’t afraid to kick them out now, she stood right there, with all of us around her, and told them “your asses are OUT”. So, to those who said appease them, or you get what your asking for, and yes, this is perhaps wrong of me to say because I did ask, but, the whole appeasement suggestions, well, they were wrong
On that note, no more suggestions, no more trying to appease other’s, I am me and if folks don’t like that, to flippin bad, am I going to put my flags back up, perhaps I will, perhaps I won't, but if I do, I won;t be the only one in my neighborhood anymore. There are ethnic flags all over my block now, and I'M LOVING IT. Hell, we are even having a multi-culture blcok party this coming week-end, seems if you get rid of the problem, things DO get better.
