Yikes! I forgot Galactica!  Clearly it's been entirely too long without new episodes...

~Holly, who goes shamefully to set the TiVo for Oct. 6th, the BG season premier

My friends kept pushing me to rent the Firfly DVDs from Netflix, so I did.

Guess who was in the theaters for opening night of Serenity (the Firefly movie)?

Yep, that's right.  Me.

I think I need to start a Firefly/Serenity thread sometime soon...

ER
The Law and Order spin off (not the original serie)
I'd liked Buffy and Angel, Dawson's creek
Unsolved mysteries (french version not as good as the US one)

The other things i like are french series so no need to talk about here lol

Office American version!? Can't be in the same class as the original. The French have done a version too. It's comedy that is uniquely British - they must have made all sorts of changes to market it in the US and France.

Anyone seen 'Arrested Development'? Think it only ran two series but quality - set just south of LA I think, dysfunctional US family all as mad as hatters. If you haven't seen it it's worth a watch.

Also, any of you seen a British sketch show called the 'Fast Show' - a bit dated now as it was produced in the mid 90s but also quality.

Have to agree with those who don't watch much telly - it's rubbish and the news is just war, war and more war - death and destruction everywhere with a light hearted story along the lines of 'demons were exorcised from a pig in Gloucester today' sandwiched in between.

Anyway, telly will never be the same without Cagney and Lacey, Quincy and Dallas :-) Believe it or not the viewing figures in Britain for Dallas was around 20 million at its peak in a country of 60 million people - strange place over here. Drink along with Dallas was good for a laugh at University, a few mates sat round all with a Dallas character - when your character had a drink so did you, got out of hand at the oil baron's ball one episode.

CSI is reasonable - the LA one being the best of them. Although the gambling addiction storyline was a bit far fetched - one minute he was fine the next he was on rock bottom gambling the mortgage and the wife on 2 jacks. No warning of this habit, no gradual decline into the murky world of addiction. Maybe I'm thinking about it too much.

Also, read an article on CSI - apparently many Americans actually believe the techniques on CSI are used in real life? Or is it our press stereotyping?

Good lord, I can't believe I missed Farscape and Dr. Who!!!  I was just starting to get into Farscape when they cancelled it (do they still run re-runs???)  I was happy dancin' when they started airing Dr. Who again (loved that show even as a young kid in the late 60s and early 70s).  I like Angel, too.  And John Doe.

If my TV is on for background noise (something I've only started doing in recent years) then it's almost always on scifi (except for those stupid over-grown monster run amuck movies).

I like House, too.  Since my son moved back in with me he's started DVRing it so I get to see it more often.  Gotta love that crotchety old bugger.

Guess who organized the NOVA Firefly Meetup Group and had both that group and Washington Whedonites group for the opening and post-party?  :)

Well the problem with Coupling was that they DIDN'T change anything, and that's why it bombed in the US, Americans couldn't relate to it.

With The Office, they kept the same format and essentials, and let it grow into an American show.  And frankly, I think it's ten times as hysterical as the British version.  I'm a fan of Brit comedy in general, but I think this time the American version is just better.

It just finished its third and last season, and it's one of my partners favorites.

Fair enough Lucky, all a matter of personal taste - will reserve judgement on the US version as I haven't seen it. Trying to imagine a US Gareth or David Brent - do they have a Finchy in the US version? is he as much a complete idiot?

Arrested Development has so many good characters in it - the dad, Jobe, Tobias, the sister and the younger brother with neurotic problems. Excellent programme.

Regards

Other than the Fox Sunday night animated stuff, I don't even know what the networks are airing these days.  The wife tried to get me into 24 but I never really did.

I'm much more likely to just turn on History or Discovery as background to whatever else I'm doing.

I was enjoying a British sit-com called "Waiting for God" but it was replaced by "Keeping up Appearances" and that was the end of that.  Sci-Fi has a new called "Eureka" that has been fun when I've caught it.

Haven't seen The Sopranos mentioned yet? Do people in the US think it's not upto much?
