Jasmyn -> RE: Are there any feminists out there? (9/10/2006 3:37:11 PM)

I want to say I think everyone should be free to pursue the life they want ...but that kinda doesn't work when applying the principal to criminals, or serial killers, nor the puppet masters raping and pillaging of resources and lands ... . so I'll say instead, everyone should be free and unhindered to pursue a lifetime of harmony... very peace, love and mung beans I know ... but if the philosophy was embraced...I think humans would be more inclined to first find strength and power from within than from moments of trying to snatch it from another ... until then I hold concerns for people who are taught or who are want to hold onto the past and as a result never imagine or consider a different way of being.

Feminism was a good cause when it started. It was for true equality. But these days I just see a lot of feminism as female chauvinism and male hatred. Its just greedy women wanting more privileges.

It was a good cause when it started?  Meaning it's okay for women to vote for the mostly male candidates, work and pay equal taxes without equal pay... yay.   Greedy women wanting more privileges?  What exactly are these extra privileges women are asking for that men don't have?  The right to equal pay?  Being considered an equal human being in all facets of life?  Not having to be thought of as"just" a parent/spouse if they desire more, wanting to have the opportunity to lead a company or a relationship?  Not having to put up with sexual harassment because they are dressed in a skirt?  Shame on those greedy, greedy women.

Master96 -> RE: Are there any feminists out there? (9/10/2006 5:09:50 PM)

…… what can I say?

I think we should instead help those people.
We should help men who see women as lower sex. And help women who hate all men for that.

We should hate the wrong thought not the confused person with it.

I laughed at that, considering the theatrical scenario from which the saying derives. I believe it was spoken to the likeness of a woman

Gender has no bearing on the truth of the statement.

Or are we? That is a very relative area. I know I appreciate it immensely when a female styles herself in minimalist raiment for display. I will admit some men need to brush up on their techniques of displaying admiration, but goodness, if we all danced around each other on eggshells, afraid of displaying our visual attraction without expressed written or verbal permission, there would be a lot less people in the world today. Wait—maybe that's a good thing.

I don't think it's relative at all. When women dress the way "they" want, that's "their" choice and is one of the basic feminist principles. The objectification occurs when stereotypes are put into place. ie-whore/slut/tramp, "she's asking for it", et al.

Outside of sociopathics and truly evil people, humans are more highly developed as a species and have the capacity for rational reasoning. We should be using that for uplifting one another, not downgrading.

You like playing the devil's advocate, don't you?[sm=evil.gif]

What Feminist Say

If a man sleeps with a woman and has second thoughts about it
later on, they call it "fear of commitment."
If a woman sleeps with a man and has second thoughts about it
later on, they call it "date rape"

If a man gets drunk and sleeps with a woman, they hold him
responsible for his actions.
If a woman gets drunk and sleeps with a man, they hold him
responsible for her actions.

When men judge women based on their looks, they call it"lookism"
"sexism" and "oppression"
When women judge men based on their looks and their salaries, they
call it "dating"

When a man says "You have to sleep with me to be an employee,"
they call it sexual harassment.
When a lesbian says "You have to sleep with me to be a feminist,"
they call it "body de-colonization" and "political lesbianism."

When a man says "Some feminist hate men" he is engaging in
sterotypes and bashing.
When feminist say "All men are potential rapist," she is
rasing issues.

When feminist lie about rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia, they are nonetheless educating the public about legitimate issues.
When you point out that feminist lie about rape, sexual harassment, domestic violence, anorexia and bulimia, you are guilty of backlash.

When you ask why physical standards should be lowered so women can join the military, they say it ensures equality.
When you ask why only men are forced to register with the selective
service and only men can be forced into combat against their will, they'll say that you are the one who starts the wars.

When you say that men should not be discriminated against, they will tell you that you that you hold all the power and privileges.
When you say that you don't feel that way, they will point out rich men you don't even know.
When you say that women in your work place have equal pay and
equal numbers and no longer deserve special breaks and special promotions, they will cite some statistics from someplace else.

If you say you are afriad of a violent woman, they will laugh at
you and send you away without help.
If you protect yourself from a violent woman, they will say that violence against women is always wrong, no matter what.

If a woman accuses a Republican nominee of sexual harassment, they
say "why would she lie?"
If several women accuse a Democratic president of sexual harassment, they say "she probably lied."

If they want access to a predominantly male organization, club, or school, they say that "diversity" is good.
If they want to keep men out of a predominantly female organization, club, or school, they say "segregation" is good.

When a woman accuses a man of child abuse during a divorce or custody battle, they say "Believe the children."
When the children themselves say they weren't abused, they don't believe the children.

When a woman cannot support her children, they say we should raise taxes on everyone to set up more programs to help her.
When a man cannot support his children, they say, "Revoke the deadbeat's licence and throw him in jail."

When a man denies his children support money, they say he should
be punished.
When a woman denies her children a relationship with a warm and loving father, by thwarting his visitation rights, they say it's a
"non-traditional family."

When an unwed father wants custody of his child, they say "think of the best interest of the children."
When a mother wants custody of her child, they say "Don't punish a woman just because she works."

That depends on the context. Resistance against some things is indeed not futile, but it is good to pick one's battles wisely. Predicating the success of one's social Jihad upon pruning key branches of human nature will be a hopeless struggle waged for eons.

cravespleasure -> RE: Are there any feminists out there? (9/10/2006 10:25:17 PM)

I am a feminist. This doesn't mean that I subscribe to some party line, or am burning my bra :)

I don't think it's a mutual exclusion clause with being submissive. I believe strongly in choice. I encourage people to make educated choices rather than falling into feeling based arguments. My personal beliefs, and desires shouldn't be the blueprint for everyone (or everyone of my gender).

Well we are only born as 2 different genders. I have nothing against transgender people. Each to their own and thats their choice. They are still people and they are still human beings in the end. But the logic to it all is that human beings can only be born as 2 genders. Male or female. No one in this world has ever been born as transgender. It may sound offensive but hey its the truth. You cant change that.

People like you are why feminism exists.  Congrats on a delightful first post, Assclown.

Sadly, feminism will exist as long as ignorance does.  Lose the ignorance and I bet feminism would diminish.  I would rather be equal than a feminist... and I would rather be most anything than ignorant.

So surrender to these double standards and let men get oppressed and feminism will be diminish. I understand.

It would be nice if you had some logical points to prove me wrong but I know you never will. You feminist always refuse to debate with logic, instead you just say we are misogynist and ignorant to shut down debate.

DiurnalVampire -> RE: Are there any feminists out there? (9/10/2006 11:14:42 PM)

There really isnt anything to debate.  You show us where you have any FACTS in what you say and we will make sure we counter properly.
I dont consider myself a femenist.  I dont believe I am superior to anyone.  Well, maybe to ignorant little peons like certain posters... but in general I dont.  I just think everyone should be acknowledged for what they contribute, not what they have between their legs.

Clearly this is more than a little unfair to those with legitimate concerns for equality of both genders.  I think wanting to oppress men is just as wrong.  Im not an activist type of person, I just think there has been alot of injustice to women in past history, but I think its coming under control these days.  The one thing I would like to see would be more accomodations for single mothers, at their jobs.  Maybe an alottment of days off without the fear of being fired, for reasons such as child is home sick, etc.
