ORIGINAL: MsKatHouston I am also curious if there are dominants who do this, what the practical uses are. For example, what exactly are you hypnotizing for? Is it specific to a particular act? How often do you do it? Everybody has their own lines, and it is important to be aware of your lines and a potential partner's lines in order to have a productive relationship. I seldom use hypnosis, although it is often requested. It gets trickier when the purpose is to enforce better behavior. The recipient of the suggestion has to be aware and make the consious decision that this is a good thing and this is what s/he wants. Hypnosis just makes it a bit easier and is a more relaxed and positive way to achieve the desired results more quickly. Some examples would be time management or reducing reactions to situations that seem to stressful for the individual but are truly not any more than the normal daily stressors. It is difficult to give specific examples. It is often a personality thing, or an self-improvement thing. I may say I want to quit smoking, but if I am really not sure, every suggestion in the book is not going to make Me lay down that pack of cigarettes. On the other hand, if I really want to quit, but I do not have the wherewithal to make the leap on My own, a few hypnosis sessions can help Me make that leap and the leap will be less painful. It is true that no one can make someone do something they wouldn't ordinarily do, just because they have been given a hynotic or post hypnotic suggestion. In addition, the subjects still have a conscious awareness. This is a common misconception. People are not deeply entranced with an inability to stop the session any time it becomes uncomfortable. I learned under the hands of professionals and underwent hypnosis Myself, both regression and regular behavior modification. I think it is important to experience something like this youself, as it is a powerful tool that can be misused. I constantly reinforce that the subject is safe, for example. And, ethically (since this is coming up alot!), I do make sure that the subject is aware of what is going to be investigated on a sub-conscious level. I would never, ever do this without ensuring that the subject had the ability to stop the session. A subject needs to be aware of the behaviors that need to be modified, agree to the need for modification, and then work in tandem with the hypnotist to achieve the goal over a period of time. NLP - neuro linguistic programming - is another effective way to communicate. There is always body language and sub text in any interaction. It is a way to see how people's words don't necessarily mean what they are trying to convey. Often they really believe their own words and do not even realize they are giving off a completley different signal. Communication is an art. It is much more than words being tossed back and forth. Hypnosis and/or NLP is simply a way to reach and affect the sub-conscious and make that work in a positive way for those involved. To the Ranger - Now another book I should read! *Smile* And you've used this effectively on Dommes, eh?
