Amen!   We don't have to mention the word politics at all, and I'll know we are misaligned politically because of what he values in his everyday life or by what he continually boasts about in his life.   I simply don't do well (respect/like to phuck 'em) with people who are very different on those positions from myself.   M

Spot on. A person's politics speaks volumes for the character of that person because it is the values held that lead to aligning with a particular political viewpoint/ideology/party.

The way I look at it is this, people who remotely accept the bombing of places knowing full well it is killing people do not really give a flying one about a great deal apart from their own cacooned world. If you ever need something from these people then I wouldn't expect a great deal because when it comes to the crunch life is about them. Would I be interested in having a beer with people who hold such values - absolutely not. There's nothing to learn from such people and neither would they listen to a reasoned argument because their brains haven't developed beyond the capacity of an 18 years old's so why bother spending time in their company? It will only be a complete waste of valuable time.

My former dom used to threaten me with tying me up to listen to Bush state of the union speeches if he ever needed to really punish me

Now there is a man who understands torture.

My sister - one of the biggest left wingers I have known, vowed to never, ever consort with a Republican.  Wouldn't you know, she just married her political polar opposite, a steadfast right winger.
I don't know how many times I have looked it up, I still can't keep right wing/left wing straight. Still sounds like something I need to know at Kentucky fried chicken....lol.

I'm very passionate about politics and the current state of our nation.  I would find it difficult to be involved closely with someone who was of a strongly opposing opinion, as we would clash, or who was ambivalent, as I take it very seriously.

That being said, there is life outside of politics.  My closest friend is conservative whereas I am liberal.  We mostly avoid that subject and agree to disagree.  Our friendship is not based on our political beliefs.  There is more to each of us than our opinion on a particular topic.

I have known some very nice right wing people. I would trust them, break bread with them, talk with them, and laugh with them... even about politics... but I do not fuck them

I am with you, I want to know that the person beating the crap outta me for our mutual pleasure has a similar value system to my own, even if they claim they are apolitical. In other words, it is the values that form political ideology and the intelligence that goes along with it I am looking for... not party affiliation.

I want to know the person who ties me up is not prejudiced, has some superiority complex based upon his ethnicity or gender, and wants to be kind to small children, the elderly, and animals. I want to know they care about planet Earth and her inhabitants... you know... that sort of thing.

Amen.

As for the friend I referenced, she voted for Bush in '00 but not in '04, so there is hope for her yet! (At least she learned from her mistake.)

I would agree that she had learned from her mistake only if she voted for someone who was against the war...which eliminates most of the candidates.
