omg.  I like you when you are bad.  Vanilla per chance?  Graham crackers, in stick form, dipped into frosting is almost as good as eating it from a spoon.

The house slave in Roman times could easily say "Master, there are rats in the silo eating the grain, your slaves are going hungry and cannot work the fields because they're getting weak,  the neighbor is stealing your calves and the tile worker did a mosaic of your wife doing Pharoh.  And the boat building business is bad because your boats sink."  Can bet me that slave wasn't referred to as a submissive.  Nor did he operate under the assumption that "maybe Master likes it that way, it's not for me to warn Him".

A Gladiator slave could insist on having his own place to live, his own servants / house slaves, and could tell his Master to go soak his head if the slave didnt feel like getting out of his harem that day.  The Master put up with this because of what the Gladiator brought him on Tournament Day, which is recognition and power and prestige.

There is a perfect example of differences in SLAVE populations, without even trying to compare them to submissive populations.

A gladiator slave had to fight in tournaments.

A house slave had to empty the chamber pot and wash the dishes.

A sex slave had to pleasure his/her master.

These are all slaves.

But they are all different.

I suspect it will be impossible to nail down an accurate definition of what a slave or submissive is without giving it a context, and even then it will be impossible to compare the two because they are different to the people involved.

Just me, could be wrong, but there you go.

Hello A/all,

A truly sinful dessert is taking chunks of fruit and dipping it in to warm caramel.

No, no, it's the cream cheese flavor. Goes better with the red wine.

That's overkill.  And for me to say that, you know it's bad.

For Sinergy - I love caramel.  Allow me to wax briefly.  Iced coffee + caramel, as in iced caramel macchiato - love it.
Candy store next to my office makes vanilla fudge.  In the middle of two layers of fudge is a layer of caramel + pecans - love it
Caramel is a wonderful food group.

Pay attention everybody.

The four food groups are Sugar, Salt, Fat, and Alcohol.

There are people who think that Caffiene should be a food group, but I think they are delusional and deserve a second cup to get their head in order.

Caramel is not specifically it's own food group.  It is simply a major member of the Sugar and Fat food groups since it is what happens when, if I remember right, you melt sugar and butter together.

Clear as mud?

i acctually like these topics because i learn so much. i've always identified as a submissive. Those that know me and have seen my mindset have called me slave. So i'd much concluded that i didn't fit neatly into either box. Now i am rethinking that conclusion.
i am not collared but am under consideration. i am not permitted to tell Him no when He issues an order. i am to do it without any whining or drama and we will discuss it later if i have issues with it.
He asked me when we first started talking about getting together what i thought my hard limits were. i told Him and have since found out that one of my hard limits He has determined is in my best interest for Him not to accept. i have mixed emotions about this but i trust that He would not do it if He thought it would cause me harm.
i tend to ask permission for everything unless He has already told me He doesn't want control over what i am about to do.
i am now thinking that perhaps i am a slave just finding my way

I emphatically disagree. It is misinformational to promote the idea that the two forms are synonymous.

To put it simply, a submissive negotiates her rights in servitude, whereas a slave does not retain any rights at all, save those rights her keeper grants. Some will of course balk and take issue with that simple parsing, but that is the crux of it. Most who call themselves "slaves" are in fact BDSM submissives. The attainment of slavery via choice is a difficult path to follow; it is a tremendous odyssey of desire, selfless love and deep-rooted conditioning. It is not attained easily, either by servant or would-be Master.

People are of course free to use the words as interchangeably as they like, but it does not mean it is correct to do so.

That's pretty much how it works with U/U/us.   Started off under a sliding thing, as i got to know/ trust Him more, i was able to give over more areas of authority until i finally realised, there wasn't any area i couldn't confidently hand over.  (To me, that realization was when He became Master.)

Then, once received, He granted certain areas back to myself or my hubby to manage, based on what He felt was in my best long term interests...  notes, it wasn't based on what He didn't want responsibility for, He would have taken responsibility in ALL areas, because 1 mavis-slave is a package deal.  The choice of what to delegate out has changed.  Some things originally given to me have now been parted over to Hubby, as He is taking more responsibility.. some things that were originally left in Hubbys hands are now in Masters..   the areas of authority move.. but still..  He is in ultimate control of where, when , and how they shift.

Yes, yes, i understand that places hubby in a role of beta-Dom, and to some, that would be untenable, but it works for what Hubby wants out of D/s.

At the risk of pissing everyone off, here is my 2 cents. I have collared a submissve pain slut in a prior relationship and I own my slave in my current relationship. I not going to say which one is deeper but consider that with my slave. I own her mind, body and soul, I will let you be the judge which relationship was deeper ;) To each their own. I am not saying one is better than the other. For me, my slave is on a much deeper level to the level reached with my subbie painslut. The trust required is so much deeper it's the difference between a pothole and the grand canyon. Each submissve has a spectrum of both subbie and slave desires and needs. We need to rocognize our needs and our companions needs and allow them the freedom to follow their own unique path in their personal surrender.

Peace,
Master JR

Now do not misunderstand me, your experience is just as valid as the next person's, but what was the motivation of both the slave and the pain slut? My Daddy's first submissive was a pain slut, her motivation for being submissive was to have a life support system for a flogger. She wanted him to serve her, and would manipulate him to get that.... it did not work for long. Now fast forward, and he has me, a service oriented submissive who wants to please... it is not the label that determines the depth, but the motivation and inclination to be in that relationship to begin with...

To me a pain slut conjures up a brat sammy that wants to be topped and hurt, or some varying degree of that. I know not all painsluts are like this, but because of the things I have heard it tends to put that image in my mind. Different motivations exist within people to be involved in wiitwd, it does not mean that one is less than another or more than another, they are just different. Someone that loves to bottom and gets with a service top and they have a plethora of things in common has just as deep of a relationship as anyone else's... and I have said this before and I will say it again... I would rather have a 50 year tender vanilla marriage based upon intimacy and love and shared experience than a series of BDSM experiences that did not lead to something more substantial.. depth is not defined by the parameters of the relationship nor the label one attaches to it... it is defined by the depth of the individuals involved...

But that is just my opinion
