Just thought it might be interesting for you to know, that Bosnia and Kosovo are actually far from being returned to normal.

If it were back to normal, then why would so much of the British Army be deployed there on peacekeeping etc right now?

What also amazes me, is that these people came to the US (and incidentally a lot of them came to the UK too) to escape ethnic hatred. Ironic or what?

The hospital where my grandmother died a year ago is a great example. While sitting at her bedside, I overheard several nurses talking about "more layoffs".

I find that extremely hard to believe. Nurses are not being laid off. I did several travel assignments in your area. They are begging for nurses.

They are a two hundred bed hospital that is listing nursing positions available.
Also, if you do not want to go into nursing, they have housekeeping positions, security, maintenance, respiratory therapy, dishwasher, food service and a coder position among others.

DUH!  That's cuz they laid them all off.  It's not very stable, so you constantly get laid off and rehired, usually in about 8 hour cycles, 5x a week.

All I know is what I heard when I was waiting for my grandmother to take her last breaths last December in ICU. The nurses were talking about "more layoffs". I assumed this was because too many people are uninsured and can't afford to pay hospital bills.

Everything that I can find in regards to that hospital suggests that it is growing. There was a restructuring in 2004 where they integrated a clinic, and some layoffs may have taken place but they were described as "temporary" and certainly not due to immigrants. Now they are hiring.

Yes I have been offered several travel postions there. Seems she was misinformed. There is a nursing shortage. I worked there. They are recruiting nurses out the ying yang.

Most hospitals get their money some way. Most are non-profit. So doesn't matter if the patient pays. Life goes on in the hospital.

They spread the cost around. We all pay for it.
And let's not confuse "non-profit" with "nobody getting rich".

She was saying the hospital lays off nurses because someone cant pay. All taxpayers end up paying the bill. Nurses don't get laid off because someone can't pay. If that was true there wouldnt be any nurses. That was my point.
