Wow, I just read Parcell's lips before the commercial break:

To Romo: "Hold on to the fucking ball!"

Well, I know what you mean, but you'd think that over the course of 15 seasons he would have been able to find a good quarterback.  Yes, he won with crappy quarterbacks (at least for the most part)--but whose fault was it that he had crappy quarterbacks?

Edited to add: Don't get me wrong, I think he was a great coach.

There are two formulas for winning in the NFL. The Great QB formula: Green Bay, NE, DEN, and DAL (Farve, Brady, Elway, Aikman) and the QB proof way of winning: BAL, TAMPA (Dilfer, B. Johnson.)

The surrest way to win is the QB proof formula, b/c its easier to identify defensive talent, rb talent, and OL talent. So, if you build those facets of your football team, the QB doesn't have to carry the load and won't suck up too much salary cap space. Also, if he get's injured, the team can still sustain a level of excellence.

The losing formula is to get the wrong QB: Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Joey Harrington, Heath Shuler, etc.

Pitt obviously was a team that went the QB proof route, and unless you have a shot at the getting a top notch QB, that's what you have to do. Take it from a BAL fan, good QBs are HARD TO FIND, they are expensive to pay, subject to injury, hard to develop, and all the rest.

Absent a great QB, find a servicable one and build the team out from there. Better to pursue this strategy then to reach for the wrong player.

The Raven's set the organization back by handing the team over to Kyle Boller, who looks like he's nothing more than back up material. Before him we've had Testeverde, Eric Zeier, Stoney Case, Tony Banks, Scott Mitchell, Trent Dilfer, Elvis Grbac, Anthony Wright, and Jeff Blake. On the other hand, the team has had slew of top notch defensive stars.

The funny about Cowher is that he's leaving with Ben Roethelberger on the roster, arguably the best QB he's ever had.

What a horrible game. The Chiefs looked like a bunch of chumps out there. DEN would have played a better game.

Had the Chiefs offense showed up at all, the Chiefs probably would have won by generating those three turnovers.

Trent Green looked HORRIBLE.

McNair won't look that bad next week, and his unflappability and unsackableness will be huge assets v. the Colt pass rush.

Billick had to see that keeping a balanced offense is the way to beat the Colts (or any team for that matter), and so he'll keep the Raven's balanced like he has since firing Fassel. For players like Steve McNair, Ray Lewis, Chris Mcallister, Samari Rolle, Trevor Pryce, Derrick Mason, Jonathan Ogden, and Matt Stover, this may be their last best shot at another / first Super Bowl Ring. These guys will be focused and ready to play.

Yeah, that's called, "Here, take the game away from us, we suck and don't want to play football anymore this year."

You know, I think I would have tried the 67-yard field goal on that last play instead of a Hail Mary.  Not that that would have worked either...

The better team won tonight.  Or, more precisely, the less crappy team won.

The Ravens had a perfectly serviceable one six years ago, and they won a Super Bowl with him.  He was better than any QB the Steelers ever had under Cowher before Roethlisberger--and he was better than Roethlisberger was this year, too.  It's hard to find a great quarterback, yes, but in a span of 15 years, most teams have had one decent one.

I'm not criticizing Cowher for having mediocre quarterbacks, but I'm also saying that you can't overhype him for winning with mediocre quarterbacks, because he chose them, after all.

No one ever wins with a bad quarterback and no one ever will.  As the game tonight nicely illustrated, QB mistakes are deadly and can easily outweigh every good play the guy made all night.  The only way to win in the NFL is if your quarterback doesn't do anything to hurt your team.  I really thought Julius Jones's long run was going to save their asses from an atrocious fourth quarter.  Didn't work out that way...

I think that like several other teams that are out there, Seattle can beat the best and they can lose to the worst. All their freakin' injuries don't help matters any, but even the core that's survived thus far could use a lot more consistency. I'm a huge Seahawks fan, and always have been, but I'm afraid I'll be watching next week's game with my fingers barely parted over my eyes.

And I'm not real happy with that stupid screen that Glenn fumbled at the end..... anyone remember when the Redskins tried that in a Super Bowl, and the Raiders LB Rod Martin toted the interception into the end zone? Arrrrgghhhh........

To me, this was just another typical NFL game, where a few officials moving footballs and calling mystery penalties in the defensive secondary, decided the game.

I hope Tony Romo got to hang with friends last night.

Dilfer did a great job, still he was a high draft pick who never morphed into any kind of pro bowl star. In his Super Bowl Year he threw 12 TDs, 11 Ints, and posted a 76.6 rating.

The Ravens made a mistake in letting him go.

Looks like the Cowboys made the mistake of peaking at mid season. Its a bitch trying to win without Aikman, E. Smith, and M. Irvin. Pundits say this season has just killed Parcells on the inside.

Speaking of QBs, neither DEN, BUF, MIA, or DAL have ever found replacements for Kelly, Elway, Marino, and Aikman.

Peyton Manning has such class. He fields the perpetual questions about "choking" in the playoffs and not winning/getting to The Super Bowl with such grace, composure, and maturity.
