Wow, 21-21, Pats and Chargers, about 4 1/2 minutes left.

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 5:18:12 PM)

mbmbn's Pats hang on by their toenails, 24-21 over San Diego. Good game.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 5:21:15 PM)

Wow, that was a good game.  Does Marty keep his job?

Level -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 5:31:01 PM)

Absolutely he does, Katy, they'd be nuts to drive him out. I know he's never won a title, but I believe he's a very good coach.

Next Sunday:

New England at Indy
New Orleans at Chicago

LeMis -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 6:16:00 PM)

Congrats to the winners this weekend!

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 6:17:44 PM)

Whewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww !!!
What a game. I'm speechless still. I really never expected this win. It was classic Patriots football and I didn't think we would pull it off. My sister and I were squeezing each others hands, until they hurt, the entire last drive.

Congrats, mb [;)]. Brady had a poor game, but the team came through on this one; and the Chargers shot themselves in the foot once or twice. It's interesting that neither Indy or the Pats are hitting on all eight cylinders, and yet they find ways to win. That's often the sign of a champion....

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 6:50:34 PM)

And he never will win a title, either.  I'd get rid of him.  They have a Super Bowl caliber team, and as long as he's their coach, they're never going to win.  Windows don't stay open for very long in the NFL.

Marty has the same always-the-bridesmaid thing that Peyton has.  The Chargers are fielding a lot of talent, they should be going to the championship game.  But, they aren't.  I won't complain for long, I like watching the Pats and Colts go at it.

SlaveAkasha -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 7:00:48 PM)

Every team I picked won this weekend.. so it was a good one.  We all know that next week is what counts though and with us playing the Pats.. it's going to be a nail biter.

This will be an interesting game in "our" family, Dad is from MA (born & raised as were us kids) so we all root for the Pats, HOWEVER....
little brother got married last spring to an Indy gal, and her teen boys are bigtime Colts fans, lol.

Should be fun, hehe

Here's hoping the Pats win next week so they can face the Bears in Miami. :)

Lordandmaster -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/14/2007 9:23:06 PM)

Except he's been trying and failing for a lot longer than Peyton.  And Peyton may still get there.  Marty never will.

Has Marty explained why he went for it on 4th & 11 when he was within his kicker's range to make a field goal?  That made no sense to me, not that early in the game.  Perhaps not at any point in a game.

SlaveAkasha -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/15/2007 8:00:48 AM)

That is one we couldn't figure out either, it just didn't make any sense.  A very big risk that could have very well cost them the game, and I was suprised to see.

I think it would be a great SB to have the Colts and the Bears.  We are sistering states and both teams haven't had much luck in this area.  If we went into it like that, I would have to say that though I want my Colts to win bad... I wouldn't be pissed to see the Bears win because they deserve it after a great and hard year.

It was a very close game, and yes, that could have made the difference.  Something told me that was Marty trying to prove that he's not conservative because he's been criticized for so many years for being too conservative.

Also, I felt that Tomlinson should have gotten a few more carries, but he still finished with 123 yards rushing, so that's not why they lost.  The three lost fumbles were killers.  In fact, one of them came on the play you're talking about, right?

Edited to add: Speaking of fumbles, McCree's fumble right after intercepting on 4th down was like a cruel joke.  Don't they teach these blockheads not to go for the interception on 4th down?  The BEST thing that can happen is that you might return the ball to the original line of scrimmage.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/15/2007 10:03:18 AM)

Marty sure picked a bad time to stop playing "marty ball" or as they now call in it San Diego, "marty bawl".

maybemaybenot -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/15/2007 1:23:43 PM)

I think one of his biggest mistakes, perhaps the biggest, was wasting a time out with the coaches challenge on the interception/fumble/recovery < T Brown play>. It was pretty clear that there was nothing to challenge and that loss of a time out could have been the difference between a game tying FG or maybe even a game winning TD.

And I would love to hear his reason for only giving LdT 9 touches in the second half. Pats could not stop they guy.
< who can ?> His recievers were dropping and missing balls all day, LdT was keeping them in the game.

No doubt about it, that was one tough, hard fought game on both sides. I was very surprised Matt Light contained Merriman and pretty much nullified his play in this game. The last time we played them, Merriman made mince meat of Light.

KatyLied -> RE: NFL Sob (or Brag) Thread (1/15/2007 2:14:34 PM)

Yes, the coaches challenge was dumb.  The upstairs assistants should've told him not to waste his time out with that.  I know it's silly to play what-if from the first quarter.  But if they'd not gone for the 4th & 11 (meaning no turn over, no NE field goal from that drive) and had made a field goal, the game could've gone into overtime, and who knows?  Although that's just one dumb thing that happened in that game.

Matt Hassellbeck played the last 8 weeks with broken fingers:

On a collegiate note, Ted Ginn Jr from Ohio State, and Adrian Peterson from Oklahoma are leaving for the NFL, and Lousiville QB Brian Brohm is coming back for his senior year.
