What disheartens me these days is the folks who jump into "teaching the community", without more than a few hours' experience in what they're teaching.  For example, the fireplay demo without any sign of a fire extinguisher.  (I'm told they had one handy - but during the howto, it was never mentioned...)  There's a lot of bad information out there, and people doing things they've seen, but simply aren't skilled enough to pull off safely.

The backbiting is fun, too - it seems that there's always a few who thrive on running whispering campaigns.  My favorite is a "domme" who never says a word about anyone - she has her subs (almost all newbies) do the whispering.

When the world was young, and we carved our own floggers out of rocks, the community was small enough that such things were easy to point out and police.  Now that it's gotten so big, it's impossible to police - which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it does have its disheartening side.

OTOH, we've *always* had the Safety Police - who feel entitled to judge whether other folks are doing things 'right'.  "It's unsafe to do any S/M if they've had any alcohol", that sort of thing.  The folks who don't want to themselves - fine.  The folks who condemn others who have different limits and methods have ALWAYS annoyed the bejabbers out of me.

what disheartens me about the lifestyle is more the pleople in it. I drives me nuts when i hear people say there is a right and wrong way to do things. As in there is a right way to be a dom or a right way to be sub. Also the people who complain about the local community, but don't lift a finger to make it better. Its easy for people to go to an event and complain about it, but they have no idea how difficult and time consuming it can be to put an event on.

How about......

"You're not a "true" sub."

"All males should bow to me because I am a woman"

"I am so sick of all the fakes"

"I don't care about you...this is all about ME"

If you are thinking about leaving the lifestyle..what was the last straw?  What irritates you?  What defeats your spirit?

I TRY to leave it all, for various reasons, but find myself drawn back again and again...

I was involved for a two years a bunch of years ago.  I had two submissivess, neither of which lasted longer than 3 months.  I went to a lot of parties.  I met a lot of people.  I had any number of offers.  But the offers I was getting tended to be from people who had 5-10 relationships a year.

I wanted long term.  I seldom met anybody capable of sustaining a long term relationship, so when life took away my free time, the Lifestyle was one of the things I gave up.

So what drove me away back then was the lack of sustainability in dynamics.  I really dislike the denouement of relationships.  It is easier to live in a swamp, put up signs, and be a terrifying ogre.
