Man that hurt to read!!

Personaly I cant stand when people do that as well as when people use slave speak but thats a personal thing I think it makes things harder to read is all and I think its a tad anal and unesisery but to each there own.

I have a question for those who use slashes to denote respect to dominants. Do you feel this implies that submissives/slaves are unworthy of the same respect? If not, why not?

When writing to a switch and using "Y/you", does this mean if they are in top mode, they gain your respect, but if they are in bottom mode they do not? Is there some other reason of which I am unaware for utilizing slashes in written communication?

Also, do you feel comfortable using slashes to denote respect to a stranger who happens to be dominant (or even just makes the claim of such via a chosen screenname) but you don't use it for those whom you have regular contact with and may know in r/t who happen to be submissive or slave? How does a stranger earn your respect automatically, but those with whom you connect and who may actually have earned your respect do not get shown the same respect?

I find any posts written this way too hard to read and to be honest I tend to skip through them rather than read them. My Master does not care how or what I write as long as I am always truthful and do not show him any disrespect in postings. He is more worried about how I behave in real life rather that worrying about if I said I or i.

I am in My fifties and come from a long line of D/s relationships [fifth generation] and even with pen and paper, this is how W/we all communicated. A lifetime habit is hard to break. I was taught that it showed respect for position and as with other forms of acknowledged respected terms of address e.g. Sir or Madam, it was expected. I am sorry if this offends others. I'd prefer to see everything written with Pwoper English..........rather than text speak, slashing, rotten spelling, lack of punctuation, terrible grammar and third person speak.............buuuuuuuuuttttt......... as I tend to fall foul of some of my OWN preferences....... all I can say is ..........I have no room to grumble, really....lol

To put it all in some sort of perspective, NOT every single word would have the slash used.

Some people believe that by using the slash it shows respect here online that cannot be seen.

It neither bothers me or turns me on, it is just something done.

If I were to be rude about it, and seems I am going to be... Posts regarding the use of the slash irritates me more than the posts using the slash.

My take on it.

I do not expect the slash form of typing when speaking to me, but if you cannot spell it right or spell it out I will say something. I hate it when someone tries to type fast and everything that comes up for me to read is either jumbled spelling or not right at all. As for the u for you or r for are, numbers for words as 2 for to, 4 for for (not four)....I will immediately stop communication after telling you to come talk to me when you are not so lazy.

First of all.....I don't think you should change what you do if it is what feels "right" to you and it pleases you just because some people don't like it. You state that you are fifth generation D/s and that slash speak is the method that your family has communicated with all of their lives. I find that absolutely amazing as I was not aware that slash speak nor the term "D/s" had foundations that reached that far back.

D/duh! Kinda tricky because it is actually used by sincere Dominants and submissives ( a respect thing, they say)...but i find its use by those merely playing games far more widespread! It brings to mind the 'Me, My, Mine' syndrome... ~laughing~

Slash speak is God's way of telling us he hates us.

The whole point of writing on a forum is to have someone read your posts. And the way to get people to read your posts is to make them easy to read.

On of the reasons I put so many gaps in my posts is so that people are not confronted with a block of text. I edit my quotes to make the post shorter, and I try to use words which most people will understand humanisticiliciouslessly.

Now, if your Dom tells you to write this way, that's one thing. You have to obey, and the onus, and jackassity, fall on him. But if you decide on your own that this is respectful behaviour towards a large group, then it's all on you.

I consider many people who have replied to be a good measure of "real life" D/Sers. They have unanimously voted that they will not vote unanimously. No one has said they expect it, but many have offered to kick the people who use it.

So obviously, if your behaviour pisses off some, and gets ignored by others, there is only one reason to do it - sadistic fucking evil.
