A Calif. co. offered to donate 4,000 "Talking Jesus Dolls" to the Marines' "Toys for Tots" program but was rebuffed on religious grounds.
The Marines spokesman said; "We don't want to have these dolls get into the hands of Muslim or Jewish children mistakenly." (paraphrase)
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Muslims or Jews celebrate "Christmas."

Popeye, I guess that's where the "mistakenly" part would come in. Especially if they rigged the dolls to say things about "burning in hell" and "damned to an eternity of eating Satan's short hairs".

Hey, speaking of hell, how'd Lindsey Graham do?

I think that is partially true but also has a PR spin to it. I do not think the government, even if it is Christmas, wants to get into push a religion angle and I think there would be plenty of people not wanting to have the Marines push a toy like that on their children.

I'm pretty sure they knew what they were doing, unless they want the Muslims to give them a few thousand "Talking Mohammed Dolls."

"That Jesus doll makes you an infidel."
"Allah will reward you for killing your parents."
"Kaboom."

Edited to add "Your mommy cries because you don't love Allah."

You're probably right, toserve. Cut off a public relations fiasco before it starts.

And the Jewish one would be even worse.

Hell I'd take one, I could use it if the holy rollers ever come to the door. Pull the string and give it right back to them!
Can you imagine a "Talking Jesus Doll" getting together with a "Slut Barbie" Doll?

Isn't Jesus CHRIST the reason for CHRISTmas???

I would love to see the voice programming on a lot of those changed.

Sitch Jesus with "Swagger, the lovably murderous pirate."  Here ya go, catholic schoolboy!  Run home and show your parents what they're teaching you!

benji

Misto, yes it is.
Hey, maybe they could take those Korans away from the goons in GTMO and give them Talking Jesus Dolls!
I think it's "Political Correctness" run amok again.
So what if some Muslim or Jewish kid gets a Talking Jesus Doll?
I mean what's it going to hurt?
Are the PC people now engaging in segregation?

"Giveth unto the Lord that which is the Lord's you no good Co&$$#&*@*!

Of course that is a valid point but life is more complicated then that. Believing in Jesus Christ is not equal to believing in one set of values and the parents choice in what and how they want to teach those values.

If a specific church was giving out stuff to children and I took it, I would expect and have no right to complain if some of the things promoted thier beliefs. I do not think the Marines want to be in that situation.

Why would a Muslim or Jewish child be receiving Christmas presents?  Christmas is not a holiday that they would celebrate.  Unless Toys For Tots distribute "holiday" gifts, if so that does add a wrinkle to the entire talking Jesus toy.

It's a government program.  Separation of religion and government.

Let's look at it this way briefly:

Toys for Tots is here to give poor kids toys.

People donate toys.  The more toys they get, the more kids get toys.

These kids will have very little else to play with.

They will pull that string over and over again.

Parents will kill their children.

We will have no younger generation to support us when we get old, fat and lazy.

But seriously, we don't know what messages these dolls were playing, we don't know why they were turned down, we only know that they were.

Next point:  If a charitable organization goes political, donations either rise or fall, but any such statements affect donations.  I guess they figured they would do better trying to be neutral.

It's what I'd do, too.

Yours,

benji

Yup, no matter what the dolls said, it'd go against both the Jews and Muslims religions, unless it said "I'm a faker and you're right".

ok every religion does celebrate a winter holiday in some form, and i am glad the marines didn't take those dolls. i would worry my daughter would get one. We all celebrate the holiday of light, but call it diffrent things. So because i'm not a Christian my child shouldn't get a present from a season of giving?

Sorry...it just got under my skin.

Or the kids could do what one little boy did to his GI Joes and his sister's Barbie.........tie them over the clothesline, squirt them with lighter fluid, light with match, see which one burns fastest.

Imagine the shock and horror on the neighbours faces if he had done it with a Jesus doll!
