So for other white people to feel outraged by this - whether they are affluent or not - just makes sense. For any color, race, religion, creed, sexual orientation, political affiliation, socioeconomic standing to be outraged... just makes sense. What Michael Richards said... makes no sense... it's deplorable... shame on him. Hello lovely lady [;)]. I don't like bigotry. The one time I used the "n" word was in junior high, I did it to try to fit in, but after I said it, my conscience just about ate me alive. By the next day, I didn't give a shit if I fit in or not, I had decided I wanted no part of being that way. I think Richards is a bit of an oddball...... but I certainly don't know him. I just hope he can get whatever is screwed up in him corrected.

Did anyone see Kramer on Letterman tonight? They had Jerry Seinfeld on and he brought Kramer on to apologize and explain himself. I, personally, have no opinion in the matter. Of course I don't condone racism. If there was something I could do to rectify the situation I would. But I can't. Stupid things like this happen everyday, the only difference is that this episode got press. The only way I can help is to control my own actions and continue to treat other human beings with the respect they deserve. I say that it's between Kramer and the people at the club that night. Now that it's a famous incident, how do we know the apology wasn't forced? (Even though it sounded sincere. He is an actor, though.) People will do many things in public that they would never do in private, and apologizing to save their career is one of them.

So it's OK". If someone one is heckling, they get what they deserve. The guy is trying to do his job. If they don't like the act, walk out and ask for their money back . I'm REALLY tired of acts that use MF ever other sentence and freely call women bitches,cunts, ho's and rap about raping and murdering.. then call it a "culture". One gets the respect they give. No more- no less.

Heckling- is considerred uncouth, less then civil, rude in the USA. It frankly isnt worth my time to do the extra clicks to view what they said is adult material. I noticed it is almost a sport in the UK. [heckling]

there is quite a large uproar in the "black community" about this. a joke is a joke, but nothing in Richards wild rant had anything to do with comedy. sorry, but there is just no possible way anyone, black or white, but ESPECIALLY white, can make a graphic reference to lynching (the way more than a couple of my recent ancestors died...great uncle william comes to mind), and even pretend that it's something remotely funny. btw, Richards was being heckled by a multitude of people...of all races. HE chose to single out two black patrons, for his own mysterious racist reasons. an apology from him is pointless and insulting...he has already made clear what he truly feels. there is no taking that back. the sad thing is he's going to damage the careers of everyone affiliated with Seinfeld. as a black person, there is no way i could ever watch the reruns of that show again, and others i've spoken to on message boards and irl feel the same way. who knows what it will do to jerry seinfeld's career now that he has come out in halfhearted support of this person. it's just a big mess all the way around. and it just goes to show you, what can lie beneath once you peel just one layer off. disgusting.

Once again I have to state that, with humor like THIS being common and ubiquitous in the black community, and by "hip" white sophisticates, the word "nigger" should be widely accepted, and assimilated into the American lexicon as an indication of race mixed with socio-economic status, for the sake of cultural fairness. The hypocrisy of white middle America kills me dead, Ladies and Gentlemen. Isn't is strange that yuppies are so fast to point out just how many black friends they have, and are usually the quickest to express outrage over the use of the dreaded "n-word", while complacently ridiculing members of their own race who haven't achieved an ideal level of affluence or erudition? At least this comedian placed his own perception of black men, and his public image on the media firing-range.................unlike the run-of-the-mill, cloak and dagger bigots of greater America. The outrage of yuppie America and the black community..................WHAT A BUNCH OF WHINERS.

TreSwank, I really don't understand what you're trying to say. People shouldn't be upset that a famous comedian was making jokes about lynching? (They weren't necessarily jokes, either--he seemed half-serious.) You know, I understand the widespread reaction against political correctness, but the blase cynicism on the other side leaves me cold, too. I don't feel like a hypocrite, even though I'm a white American, for condemning Richards and his racism.

I can condemn Richards's outburst without defending the actions of the people who prompted it. You're talking as though all things are black or white. Either I condone what he did, or I'm a hypocrite. Either they were sitting there quietly minding their own business, or his racist outburst was justified. I was finally able to watch the video. Who drew first blood? And was it necessary to begin with? If a show is bad, I simply walk out. Both sides are to blame in this one. Unfortunately, it was not without provocation.

Ethical problems aren't a black and white issue......so America has NO right to demand this comedian's head on a platter for saying "nigger", after heavy provocation aimed straight at his source of livelihood, and the ethical ambiguity already present in the realm of stand-up comedy.

Depends on what you mean by "head on a platter." Really, what are people "demanding"? He can't be prosecuted for a crime, but I'm sure his career has taken a hit. People have a right not to pay to see a comedian they now consider racist, you know. Comedians get heckled all the time, and most figure out a way to get through it without calling people niggers and making references to lynching.
