If you woke up tomorrow morning and all of the protocols, the third person speech, the C/capping of letters...all of it....had just simply "poofed".....would it change who you are, how you identify or how you interact with a partner? Would you be at a loss without those "accepted" means of expressing your position?

Well, I don't use any of those, so, no, there would not be the slightest change. In fact, I'd probably applaud the poofing because some of that is very hard on the eyes and some of it downright impossible to comprehend without a decoder ring.

It wouldn't change me one iota.  But I never got into that cap, slashy, collarish thing.  I just do what I do without thinking of justifying it for anyone else.  Maybe its a sagittarius thing..

Do you mean the online protocols?  Or the real life relationship specific protocols?

On top of that I'm a little confused because I've always considered protocols to be just the way that you relate to someone - so even if they weren't or aren't codified, there's always some sort of protocol in place (even if the protocol is that I'm just used to always calling my mother, "mom").

It wouldn't change me to get rid of the written protocols, because I am not required to use them, nor do I particularly like them. Proper grammar is always trendy, haha!
My position is something I feel, not something I know because of it's protocols.

No, I'm not referring to the online protocols only. I am referring to those outward expressions that you have come to understand as the things that make you a member of this lifestyle. Could be kneeling or asking Master to pee...could be keeping your eyes averted or asking to speak....could be always referring to a Dominant as Sir or Ma'am....or a million other things that have become protocols or rituals that signify to you that you or your relationship is included in WIITWD....other than the core desire to submit or be dominated.

My Dom and I don't do those protocols, so it wouldn't change anything.  It would make it easier to read posts though, I don't like 3rd person and slash speak, to me it's just more nonsense to muddle through.

I maintain my previous comment that my position is just what it is, I feel it, and the protocols cannot define that.

Nope, nothing would change. I don't need the dress up versions because it's all inside regardless of what's going on outside.

Nope not so ever, I don't believe in nor do I follow "internet protocal"  or other protocals, for that matter, I never have bought into the theory that I should be lower than my dom at all times, nor do I buy into the never capping anything to do with myself, all the while capping everything to do with him, I have never took third person speech seriously, all though for fun I have called myself feline, or this slut, or his whore, I will never take " protocals" someone else started cause they thought they should seriously, and they don't apply to my relationship.  I don't have to call him Sir, or even MAster, nor kneel to know he's the one who fufils my needs, enjoys my submission, and inspires me to reach higher and farther than ever before.

Dear mistoferin, Ladies and Gentlemen;

If all the protocols ceased to exist in any form, in civilization and or in the lifestyle; it would just cause havoc.

Civilization and socialization has some sort of protocols, even if it is recognized as courtesy and or good manners; it really is a form of protocol or rule of civilized behavior.

Now, I will say that the Our/our thing is a bit odd, so I am ready to see that go and talking in third person all the time as well.  But, I am not ready to see what benefits of protocols do, disappear.

Respectfully submitted for consideration,
Lady Hugs

Why wouldn't it be for you? If the core desire to Dominate or submit was still there between the two involved people...how would it not be D/s....or how would it change the dynamic the two of you shared?

Nothing would change for me either. Daddy doesn't require any of that stuff, which makes it all the more special for him when I do call him "Master" or "Sir" (which is rare)..I don't think I'd last long if I were forced to do that online capping thing.. it drives me nuts just to look at it.

Okay that kind of makes sense but it also just confuses me to be honest.  For me whatever outward expressions happen between my owner and myself have happened largely because he's inspired them.  My owner isn't big on overly codifying things so I don't have any rules around having to kneel at his feet or calling him Sir or Master (although at individual times he has put me at his feet - and certainly his preference is to be called Sir or Master).

But on a practical level I'm trying to figure out what would change for us, and nothing would.  If I woke up tommorow and all of the "standard protocols" that I see in the scene went poof I'd still be sitting at his feet when we watch tv, because thats where I belong and I'd still call him my owner/master because thats what he is.

Put this way I would have to say that a relationship without rituals is like a garden without flowers. The desire to dominate or submit is just the seed. How would you know what the seed really contains or if it really lives? If you remove all the outward expression of that desire then where is the life, the joy, the fun?

It is not enough to simply desire or to try and preserve that desire in some sterile suspension. Keep the life in Lifestyle.
