If I can find a spankable bottom at 35,000 feet would that be considered Mile High Kink Level?

I didn't see the post in question (nor can I speak for the author of it), but while reading the OP, I immediately got the impression that 'higher kink level' was meant as 'more extreme'. I think the word "higher" in some people's view could be construed to suggest superiority, or better than. However, Given the forum, I'd guess that he wanted to discuss his interest in going further than he has before.. ie.... more risky, more edgey, more intense pain level, etc. The term didn't strike me personally as having any competition or superiority to it.

I think the phrase is generally used to describe kinks which are increasingly less common or break progressively greater taboos of vanilla "normalcy". Spanking and light bondage are very low kink level activities, which most vanilla couples have tried or will try eventually.

More extreme forms of sadism, anything that could be called "edgeplay", anything that involves excrement, urine, blood or vomit, and anything that violates a serious legal/sexual taboo like ageplay begins to climb higher up the kink ladder. 24/7 power exchange, permanent body modifications or cutting, are pretty high up the kink ladder. Simulated rape and more extreme torture is also up there.

That's how I would use the words, anyway.

I think I agree with you on this, it would be my first impression although I did not read the thread.
However, if I were to use a term like that, it would only be to tease/scare my sub boyfriend.
