Just because this model isn't me, doesn't mean I don't think I am hot, it just means I thought it was a pretty cool pic that anyone could find if they looked at the avatars, so it's not like they couldn't find out with a bit of research. Like I said though, I am not looking and it doesn't really matter to me one bit what anyone thinks I look like. When I had my profile up, I had my pics there and still sometimes used one of these. All it took then was someone clicking and finding out. I guess I don't see it as a big deal, and nothing for me to worry my brain over. Sorry to let everyone down that it's not me..lol..didn't know anyone thought it was since it was able to be found in the avatars. I like the colour of hair, the look on her face, and I love red.. so I figure it fits my personality pretty well. [:D] Kasha

Actually, I never meant to decieve anyone with my avatar, Mistoferin. I am in the process of changing it. I just re-wrote my profile and am changing my avatar to the other one I liked before (it's sort of Audrey Hepburn-like. I think Mavis is using it too, so there may be some confusion there, as to which one of us is discussing things under that avatar. Hope it doesn't become too much of a mess, confusion-wise, in discussions). Geez, why such a potentially divisive topic? Do you really think the people who pick these avatars are doing it to purposely mislead people? Maybe some are, but maybe some just like the avatar. I know I did. Besides - isn't it kind of moot? After you start getting to know someone, don't most people send pics of themselves anyway? I did. - SusanofO

You misunderstood....when I referenced yours I was not implying that you did anything. We had a brand new poster here recently with your avatar and someone mistook them for you. Divisive topic? Gee, it was just a question. Just one of those things that was making me go Hmmmm today is all. Wasn't accusing anyone of anything........

Oh definitely. My perception of people's appearance is often formed by their avatar. When I actually click on their profile or their other pictures, I am usually surprised. I know I shouldn't be, but such is the way of things. When you're constantly seeing a certain image in connection with a person's words it is difficult to disassociate the two. Edited to add: And of course, it's obvious that the woman in my avatar is a model. Right? [:D]

There are a few guys using the same avatar of a handsome fellow standing in a white shirt in the water. It's stock photography I managed to find a copy of when I was cruising gettyimages one day. For the longest time, I thought it was THE person using the avatar!

Yes, to me, using a photo of someone else is deception...unless it's of a well-known person that everyone knows you're not (like Einstein). Then, that ranks in the realms of wishful thinking or playfulness, like your fairy. Master Fire - real pic of me [;)]

Met a girl once... comment on how lovely her pic was on one site... she had never been to the site...LOL... she got there and was shocked to see her face there. She now knew why she was getting more e-mails than normal. Felt kinda sorry for her. I use a drawing... but don't consider it false advertising... specially when my profile shows a pic of me. I use to have pic as my avatar... just wanted a change one day and did it... no biggy really. I'm sure one day i'll change it back... but my avatar i picked more for the quote... not the pic...

For anyone who seriously thinks I am Audrey Hepburn: This is my official notice I am Not. I'm sorry for choosing another person's photo for my avatar (again), if it bothers anybody who really may think I am Audrey Hepburn, or am misleading anyone by using it. I can't help it if I just don' wanna be: Stimpy, a Faerie, or a doggie, or a picture of a tree, etc. - I just don't. I really like this avatar (it's the only other one I ever wanted to use - however I do appreciate the vast selection available - it's nice for CM to offer). I do have photos and will send them to people - but am not using one as an avatar because I do volunteer work with unmentionables and feel it's just too risky for me. I just like the Audrey Hepburn pic. "Breakfast At Tiffany's" is one of my favorite movies! But - I am Not trying to pass myself off as Audrey Hepburn (truly), for anyone who wonders. I am here at CM for discussion. The reason I am bothering to clarify this point is that I do agree w/Misoferin (after some thought) and believe that this can cause confusion sometimes, for people (the celeb or other people's photos as avatars) - But - I also agree with Bita Trouble that intent counts the most as far as the person's motive for using the avatar. I think some folks maybe use 'em because they like 'em and some maybe for other reasons. In any case, if you e-mail someone for awhile, eventually, don't people usually exchange photos? I think it's not a big deal for that reason. - Susan

I rarely read the name anymore of the regular posters. I recognize their avatar. SusanofO...I thought you were Mavis just because the avatar. Welcome back. Michele (NOMC) great new pic. Thought it was a model. Motherhood agrees with you. And yes...that is LaM on the left. In fact, elephants have been known to bow down and worship him as he struts on by.
