Money is not an issue for me. Well, it is an issue because I would never be foolish enough to waste such a large amount of money on trash.
Status has never meant a lot to me either. I have my own style. I actually would prefer not to follow any sort of crowd or blend in anywhere. I like being my own person.
I think for most though it probably is a status symbol.

Designer labels are not even a factor in my thinking. I like owning nice things, and I like looking nice and well put together, but I do not need a certain brand (or even and upper quality one) to do that. I take good care of my things and make sure I buy things that fit me very well, therefore something from Walmart can look just as nice on me as something from a designer store. Of course, if I absolutely love something designer and cannot find it cheaper somewhere else or in a good knock-off brand I will splurge if it's within my budget to do so.

I admittedly own a Louis Vuitton purse and a Coach purse, but I can assure you that they were both gifts. My favorite purse is still my little black and gray Walmart number purchased six years ago. The thing still looks brand new, and I love it.

I never buy designer labels. I'm too tough on things.
I break sunglasses right and left. I destroy purses because I actually use
them to hold things...lots of things.
Knockoff purses are where it's at. I have three great knockoff Kate Spades
and a wallet. $35 each. When they get destroyed, I don't feel bad.

If I'm going to bother with "designer bags," they're either by Guess, BabyPhat, or RoccaWear, because I happen to think theyre fun, and adorable, with add ons and details I dont see in cheaper bags. However my favorite bag right now is a 30$ hello kitty tote that I drag everywhere... I assure you it gets me some weird looks when I show up to professional sessions ;)

Clothes I couldnt care less about. If I want something bad enough, I'll make it myself so its tailored to my body. No dips, unwanted sags, bunches etc etc. Anything else can be generic as far as I'm concerned.

Shoes are slightly higher on the priority list, but to be honest, other than my skate shoes and trainers, I wear stripper shoes all the time! Theyre generally waaaaaaay cheaper (by oer 75% sometimes) than any of the name brand stuff, look just as good, and last way longer, because they're meant for pole work and long hours of hard use. Plus they usually have way thicker padding than "designer" shoes, again because you're meant to dance in them for hours. And you can get most of the same styles, if you just want to wait a couple months.

Makeup.... Heres where I'm a snob. NARS and M.A.C are my drugs of choice, although Christian Dior and Chanel are not without their appeal. I'm hard on my makeup, so I see any brand that can stand up to me putting it on when I get home from work at 6am, go to bed, get up and go to a session, go home and back to bed, get up and workout, go home and back to bed, and then STILL be perfect and shimmery and gorgeous when I get on stage 14 hours later as a worthwhile investment. And for me, covergirl doesnt cut it. So yeah I could see me blowing a few paychecks (at once) and a few session tributes (along with the paychecks) at Sephora no problem. But 6k on a purse.. eh not my style.

And btw.... 6k? pffff... the Birken Bag by Hermes is over 10k, and has its own waiting list.

I would never pay $600 for a purse. Never. I would translate that $600 into other things, that is how I think. I could buy a lot of food with $600 or pay off some bills, that's how I wrap my mind around money.

i have to admit, im guilty..
ill step up to the plate..
i am as guilty as hell..
but..
yeah always a but somewhere... i didnt have these things growing up.. i didnt have them in my first marriage either...
so why not now?
i work hard.. i deserve these things if i like them.. its yes.. a form of status, but i worked hard to get here..
they make me feel good.. and i like what i buy.. it doesn't necessarily mean that i see someone on a cover of a magazine, and i drool and obsess until i own exactly what they have..
but if i see a purse i like.. or wallet.. or outfit.. boots whatever.. and i can afford it, then sure what the hell.. if i have to save for it, i'll do that too..
i am important.. to myself.. and so .. i feel i should do whatever i need or want, to continue feeling that way..
anyone who feels the opposite, thats their choice, but im just as happy.. shopping for coach purses, as i am.. shopping in walmart.. its what makes each of us different..

All my stuff is designer.
On the back of my jeans there's a brown leather patch that has "WRANGLER" engraved in it.
I get them from Shepler's in Wyoming online.
My watch? "TIMEX."
Sunglasses? I don't know but when I sit on them I don't feel so bad because I payed $6 for them.

Honestly, I can't see spending $600 on a purse. Of course, I've spent $400 on a signal whip....so I guess it's all relative.

I wasn't wealthy growing up, averagely middle-class parents, and appreciated everything I had.

Once puberty struck, found that it came with benefits of gifts and such from men shallow enought o think they can buy affection/love, and took advantage shallowly myself.

Have now worked very hard and can afford the majority of things I desire, and spend what others would consider ridiculous amounts, but I love "things", so for me it's worthwhile. After reading many of the replies I won't say how much I've spent on handbags or other items lol

Everythign I own is for my own pleasure and I love everything I buy, if others perceive it as a status thing or it happens to be very trendy, so be it. For me I buy things that appeal to me and I find beautiful. I work hard on my physical appearance and think of everything I adorn myself with as just another way to highlight my own beauty. They make me feel good, I like how I look in the clothes/shoes/jewellery, and how something like a handbag adds another touch to the overall appearance.

My piercings and tattoos are the same, I feel they're beautiful and add something.

That said, I've bought things that were very inexpensive also, and love them just as much as something designer. For me it's all about the way something looks, feels, and that I enjoy it.

I also value the beauty in spirituality and soul, things that cannot be bought, so even for someone who is very 'materialistic', it's not as if those of us who love our 'things' are inherently one dimensional. It really can just be another thing on the list of what we like.

LOL, this reminds me of a room where 1/3 are Republicans, 1/3 are Democrats and 1/3 are Independents! Each feels passionately about their beliefs and thinks, like an evangelical preacher, that with just enough enthusiasm they can baptize the rest of the group into their camp. We are what we are. I don't begrudge anyone spending that kind of money on "stuff" if they have it to spend. I just usually have more mundane issues to worry about - the only big checks I write out right now are for tuition and books for the semester.

Designer? What's that? heh. Seriously I don't think i've spent more than $200 over my whole life for purses. Heck the one I'm sporting now was at a church yardsale and I picked it up for a buck.

As for clothes? Man I cannot see spending all that money for a lable. Just give me something that looks and feels good.

However......as much as these handbags cost, even if i had unlimited funds for these items, i would never be that wastefull with money.
I will say that i do own one of each of these handbags. I have found that eBay is a wonderfull place to shop for my partial tastes.

I was always really scared about ordering anything online, even now have only made orders from 2 websites, both after a friend recommended them.

eBay's had a few horror stories, I've been too much of a pussy

Any tips? Have any of you ever had one of these horror-filled experiences? Or is it all urban legend
